But it also relates to how many 'screen shots' the mouse takes per second. So higher dpi = more screen shots per 'movement cycle' which translates into a smoother movement of your mouse, and yields a higher speed.
You can also reduce your movement speed (most commonly done in the game you are playing) to adjust the higher speed.
So if you go from a 400 dpi mouse with 4 sensitivity, a 1600 DPI mouse and a 1 sensitivity would give you the same speed, but higher precision.
You have to watch out for which mouse you buy and do research, SOME MICE labled as high gaming mice, react strange to high dpi / low sensitivity and develope the situation of 'negitive accel' So please do research into the mice you are buying.
Good mice would be razer death adder, logitech G5 (G9 is new but expensive), cyber snipa stinger (which i use and is very good).
the mouse DPI means that, the number of points in 1 cm squre which are been reading by mouse sensor. the more DPI, the better mouse reaction.

The way the mouse is designed right now is more geared towards FPS and RTS gaming, I think a more efficient way of MMO gaming would be to have a mouse that's a god damn command center with multiple keys for every single finger, not like the naga at all, completely reinventing the mouse as we know it.
Think, something like this:

but as a mouse, mounted lower, more ergonomic for the right hand, ~20+ keybinds instantly. Have your right click always locked down while in WoW. I feel this would revolutionize MMO gaming, but it's something nobody has done or I haven't seen it. The Naga is a step in the right direction, but it could be done better.
The only issue I can think of is if you constantly have to turn right, you have to eventually pick up the mouse, there would have to be either a strap or some way to grab the mouse, lift it, and move it, would have to be extremely light.
It's a sad sack of shit when you have 90+ keys with tons of modifiers which your left hand uses, and a whopping 4 your right hand uses.

Speaking of which, how in the world do you have 90+ hotkeys? Unless you're also including interface stuff, I don't see how that's possible. My absolute max was like 75 back when felhunter could dispel teammates, with several things macroed to arena123 as well.
Also, on topic: DPI on its own is a pointless variable. If you're curious about what mouse sensitivity people use, you should ask for cm per 360 turn.
