that temperature is totally fine, GPUs can usually handle 90+ without problems, if you have problems try to apply thermal paste to the CPU and should go down a bit

I just opened up my PC. Yeah there was some dust but not really that bad. I noticed there are 3 spaces in my case that I could use for fans. Is it a good idea to buy one?

That sucks, is the CPU really too hot? I thought it's mostly the GPU.

I just turned it off and checked for dust. It seems better now but I kinda want to be able to keep my PC on for a day without turning it off.

Dunno really, needs some pics about your PC to determine if its hot or not. Im really picky so I probably wouldnt do your PC.

You could get an after market cooling system for the cpu, bolts onto board the same but they are huge usually 2 fan or water cooling. The dual fan are copper to reduce heat and flanged. If you have a fan on the front of the comp and one on the rear and still have that bad of heat, get one on the side. post a pic of the comp/case

It only has 1 big fan at the front..

(Assuming these numbers are taken under load):

60C Tj is totally fine for even a 1st gen i7.  You can run an i7 at >80C and it doesn't really give a shit.  i7 960 has a Tj_max of like ~100C

If that's 60C Tcase (can't remember if Speedfan even reports that #), then it's still safe.  Less ideal, but not the end of the world.


I don't know what GPU you have, so any comments about it are going to be kind of pointless.  GPUs typically run hotter though, in no small part because they almost universally have much worse cooling on them.  That's probably fine too.

(If those numbers are your idle temps, then I would not turn on your computer without cleaning out the dust)

Yeah, it's "under pressure" but I only really had WoW on and I doubt WoW is supposed to push the GPU "to its limits"?
Do fans actually do anything at all? I heard once that they aren't that useful so would an additional fan do anything? I only seem to have one fan at the front in my PC. Maybe another smaller one at the top but I can't remember right now.
I also had WoW in windowed mode and I guess that makes the GPU work harder?

Case fans won't do that much.  If you don't have temperature readings from your case & outside of your case it's hard to say exactly what it'll do, but typically not that much.  I take it you already have an intake fan and exhuast fan?

Case fans especially won't do that much if the inside of your case looks like a giant rat's nest of cables and random shit.  If you have decent cable management going on in there, you may be able to get better airflow with more case fans.  But really, your temperatures are already pretty much ok, so it's likely not going to do much.

Also more case fans (especially without proper filtering) = more dust, depending on where your box is physically located.

GTX 460 is totally fine <90C
