I haven't seen new math compare the two since pvp power was raised on weapons.
If you're never going to get to 2200 rating and you have a 496 which can be upgraded to 504.  Would this be at least equal to a PvP weapon in damage?

This is by no means accurate, and PvP Power scales differently for different classes, as does STR vs Wdps. Take with a huge block of salt.

One really rough way of figuring this out is to just convert PvP Power to your primary stat and add it to the upgraded T1 weapon. Which is bigger?

If your spec values weapon DPS highly (like a frost DK or arms warrior), then you *might* get a better outcome with an upgraded heroic weapon.

For example, frost values weapon dps at 3 times the amount of strength when you're around Malevolent gear. Difference between upgraded heroic and upgraded T1 is 1537 dps. 1537 * 3 = 4611. That's how much PvP Power the upgraded T1 would need to compete.

It has 4815. It's a little better. Now, with the Sha Crystal, it would go over by a little. But that's way harder to get than upgrading T1 and playing more games. This lets people PVP when they want to PVP.

It's almost as though they did this on purpose.

Edit: Credit to aggixx in the SimC channel: Another thing you can do is just sim results, then add 1 + PvP Power %when using your T1 weapon. If that beats the Helter-Skelter results from a short sim of the upgraded heroic weapon, then use the heroic. Though it seems like that's a lot of PvE effort for PvP.

The increase in pvp power on weapons should deter people from using PvE Weapons in PvP.

but I cannot tell forsure seeing as the math needs to be done!

fixxed

http://www.wowhead.com/item=87176 Two-Hand Axe 15647 - 23472 Damage Speed 3.60
(5433.3 damage per second)
+1486 Strength
+2231 Stamina
+991 Critical Strike
+991 Mastery
Sha-Touched Socket [+550 str]

1485+550=2035

http://www.wowhead.com/item=85113 Two-Hand Axe 13108 - 19664 Damage Speed 3.60
(4551.8 damage per second)
+1245 Strength
+1869 Stamina
+830 Critical Strike
+pvp power by 4815

With PvE weapon you gain?
2539(min)-3808(top) Damage
455.1 Damage per Second
790 Strength
362 Stamina
161 Critical Strike
991 Mastery

With PvP weapon you gain?
4815 PvP Power
830 Resiliance

I dont know exact % increase in damage from pvp power but checking a friend of mine with t2.2 he has 16 000 pvp power (dont know if legit or not but took from armory) This weapon will give 1/3 of the total pvp power.

so the dmg increase is rougthly 20% with pvp power (only wep)

790 Strength
362 Stamina
161 Critical Strike
991 Mastery

4815 PvP Power D: I dont know, I need Veev. (Pretty sure Heroic Sha weapon is better though)

Assuming 35k ap buffed (2500base dps) and a base pvp power of 40% from your entire armor set.  I'll just assume pvp weapons are 20% pvp power.

Sha weapon  = 7500dps + 40%  =  10,500 dps on players.

PvP weapon = 6700dps + 60% = 10,700 dps on players.

Sha has better str, stats and +500 strength.

PvP weapon has resilience and not ALL skills scale with purely weapon damage.  AP-based attacks(poisons/"melee spells"/bleeds/etc) are way better with a pvp weapon.
