Hey, I'm looking for a gaming laptop for <1000 USD. It'll also be used for schoolwork and stuff, so longevity and durability are important. Games to be played are Planetside 2 (MMO FPS), which I know little about, but here are the system requirements for it:

Would like to be able to play Planetside 2 on fairly high settings; other games are probably DayZ (the standalone), LoL, and CS.

Laptops aren't really my thing but I've tried to find a few to start off with, any suggestions/recommendations or alternative laptops I should look at? 15-15.6" screen please!

So far I've narrowed it down to:

Thoughts? Also, the price can be up to $1000, these are just the ones I've found (the prices seem to jump from ~$900 to ~$1100+).

Is it worth getting the extended warranty?

No way you can do desktop + cheap laptop?  Highest settings may be hard to swing on a laptop.  i5 mobile + 6770 mobile will barely run on low.  You can scale up a little bit for i7 & 7700, but not much.

All the ones I linked are i7-36XXs, will they still not really be enough? The laptop is actually for my friend, and I'm pretty sure he wants to be able to go places // go over other people's houses to play games, and I assume a ~$300 laptop  wouldn't be able to handle LoL and stuff very well.

This DELL Inspiron 15R Special Edition (i15Rse-4267ALU) Notebook Intel Core i7 3632QM(2.20GHz) 15.6" Full HD 8GB Memory DDR3 1600 750GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW AMD Radeon HD 7730M ($919) is the only other laptop I've found on Newegg that might be a decent choice.

I guess I'll tell my friend that any laptop for <$1000 won't be able to get past medium for Planetside, and that he can either go with a laptop and deal with that, or see if he wants a desktop + laptop. Idk

LoL I'm not so worried about, it's planetside.  If they recommend a desktop quad core (and by "recommend", they probably don't even mean high settings), it might be tough.

I know people are saying that an i5 mobile will barely do low, I have a hard time believing that the 2 extra cores from a i7 mobile are going to make you run on high.

I might be wrong, you could look around for some benchmarks.

What is the difference between the laptops listed? Which is the best for a <1k 'budget'? For thread references: just any laptop for the future, running CS:GO, and WoW are the only real games I play. The i7s seem like a legit deal.

Also, as far as laptops go, is $1000 on the 'cheap' side (for performance)?

Would I be able build a $700 desktop that runs Ps2 well, as well as get a laptop for <$400 that can play LoL?

That one would probably be your best bet.  $700 including monitor would be tight for a desktop, but you could build something that would outperform a $900 laptop.  I don't know how well LoL performs on a lower end i3/i5 + HD4000, but you could check around online.

@Ow, any of those laptops are sufficient for Wow, it's not a terribly intensive game.

For what its worth, is there a ton of value in this laptop? All else I suppose I'd have to get is a gaming pad.
