Hey guys

Im looking to start a new character for pvp,

Just wanted to know if i should go for shaman or paladin as a healer but with the versatility of being dps (i prefer dps but want to heal to get into more comps with friends)

I dont just mean right now, because them i guess shaman is the OP one, but more in the long run across the expansion.

Im thinking paladin at the moment as ret is better than enhance?

Also im not a high rated amazing player so cant handle the super advance stuff yet!

Thanks for any advice!

Enhance > Ret

Resto > Holy

Seems pretty obvious to me.

Enh is leagues ahead of ret. And i'm only gonna mention the purge glyph and tremor.

Enhance's survival is better than Ret's.

Bubble is anything but amazing. And probably the enh you are meeting are doing it wrong.

Considering both specs have about the same weaknesses (being trained to the ground by melee cleaves) and  the fact that when you don't meet a melee cleave you run into a lock/mage/sp spell cleave i really can't see why anyone would ever chose ret instead of enh.

Purge (glyphed) is really strong vs mages, spriests, druids, rshamans. Nothing, and i mean NOTHING, ever stays up for more than 2 seconds. Trying to heal a mage as a druid vs an enh cleave must be the dumbest thing ever.

Tremor, shock, grounding i believe require no further explanation.

Shamanistic rage usable while stunned and dispelling everything if glyphed (not sure if there are better glyphs than this but it seem very strong).

Instant hex on 45/35 sec cd + a slow + a range root (if specced).

And on the other side you get a ret who's entire "utility" can be purged / spell stolen, who has to chose between a castable cc a slow and a 30 sec stun, who doesn't even have the measly passive def of rockbitter and who's only "active" defense is throwing 30-50k heals on himself every 15-16 seconds.

Yeah i would def bring a ret :/

Both classes are not great at DPS but are great at healing.  Only hybrid with two good specs is Druid...resto and feral.

People use rockbiter in arena?

Enter the nightmare, this future does implore,
A techno city state, a prison nothing more.
Rounded up like cattle, you're forced in to the trains,
Nothing that you've ever known will bring you so much pain.

Don't mention anything else.
Sustained damage is terrible, burst is okay at best and absolutely nowhere near the "top" class burst. offheals outside of AG are awful(and getting worse next patch) survivability is absolutely terrible

Enhance is good because of purge spam with glyph and tremor while combined with one of the T1 classes.

Ret is just dogshit though. Warrior >= Feral >>> Enhance >> DK/Ret > Rogue ?? WW
There's absolutely no reason to bring a ret now, and hybrid heals are getting nerfed in 5.1(AFAIK, pvp power no longer works at all for healing if you're not heal specced, a blanket nerf for one spec healing too well) making them even worse.

I seriously suggest playing enh/war/rsham if you play enhance, 80%+ of the teams you play against on the ladder will be castercleave and they're lightyears ahead of paladins vs any castercleave.(Veev suggests this too, so I guess I'm not too far off in thinking this.)

Enhance would also bring the rsham a lot of much needed survivability vs casters in 5.1(being able to tremor while the rsham is silenced, grounding/shocks etc)
