Demo is having the whole fire mage syndrome that was last expansion: people didn't realize how good it was until someone started doing some serious damage with it. Granted it's a little different than fire, but still.

Fire was good during all of cata tbh. I played with a really good fire mage before it got buffed, and his damage was insane. It's just a matter of people trying stuff out, and if it turns out to be easy to play, everyone will reroll to it for easy damage. Fire was hard pre-buffs, and that's why there weren't a lot of people playing it. The majority will always play the easy damage spec.
