I ordered the Samsung 830 256 GB SSD.

I read everywhere about Norton Ghost and other software but can't I just install the SSD into my PC and install Windows 7 on it from scatch?

I want to use my HDD as storage so do I have to format it and if yes, how?

you can definitely install the SSD into your computer and install w7 from scratch, you don't necessarily have to format the HDD but its easier to do it that way, I prefer using the command line but you can just go into w7's list of devices and right click the HDD and select "format"

if you want to install w7 on your SSD before formatting the HDD you should enter BIOS and setup the boot device preferences accordingly

remember SATA power and mobo cables, those are more important than third party SSD optimizing software
