Blood Tap is simply better for the fact that you can choose to stack necrotics (in a burstful way) whenever you want. Don't listen to the post above my previous one where he states that he thinks Blood Tap is used for an instant Strangulate. I've never used Blood Tap for that reason in patch 5.0.x and in fact you can achieve 6 Death runes at one time with Blood Tap as unholy (2 festering strikes = 4 death runes, use up the two unholy runes, pop Blood Tap twice = 2 death runes).

As Frost Runic Corruption simply limits you with only 2 Death runes at ANY given time since you cannot generate more than 2 death runes any other way.... Blood Tap and/or Runic Empowerment allows you to break that limit of 2 death runes and convert your depleted unholy / frost runes into additional death runes effectively being able to stack necrotic more than twice in a row (without the use of Empower Rune Weapon).

My opinion?: It depends on what you're using your runes for..... I think Runic Corruption will be better for TSG where you want that constant pressure to be applied (having 100% increased rune regen speed for 5 seconds or more is great where you can constantly apply pressure with your obliterates and frost strikes. With Runic Corruption you can definitely, out of the other 2 in that tier, use the most consecutive abilities without running out of runes. But DKs are always vulnerable to RNG and if a warrior parries multiple abilities of ours we're pretty much fucked for the next few seconds without runes....

TL;DR : Blood Tap = more necrotics,  Runic Corruption = more damage uptime

is conversion good? didn't get a chance to play the beta or the 85 patch. It feels like you're giving up alot of runic for 3% heals

also whats the current theory on what will be the glad mount?

You definitely don't want conversion

How do you guys plan on gemming?  Talking about both frost and unholy, I've heard of two general gemming patterns:

Red: str/pvp power gem
Yellow: resil/pvp power gem
Blue: pvp power gem

Or

Red: str gem
Yellow: str/resil gem
Blue: pvp power gem

I'm not sure which would be the best way to gem. Everyone I talk to seems to have mixed opinions on whether str>pvp power or pvp power>str.

I guess that PvP power "negates" resil in a way, so would that make PvP power> str in terms of gemming?

Runic Corruption as frost is kind of absurd right now with how cheap frost strikes are. I haven't tried blood tap in arenas yet but with the way runic corruption stacks so quickly it's almost always up. I'm going to start keeping track of actual %uptime over the next few sessions I Q and post them back here.

blood tap is better for pve, ergo its most likely better for pvp too.

on demand runes are always nice

PvP power is retardedly good to stack because of the fact that is scales linearly.  Meaning, there is no real cap to it.

This.  Necrotic strike is still an important ability and should not be neglected.  If you don't want to worry about pressing too many buttons, go with something other than Blood Tap.

This is not how it works. Read the guide posted on here with regards to Resil and PvP Power scaling as well as how it works.

Blood Tap is simply beautiful as Frost. The low cost of Frost strike is amazing and always guarantees an extra rune or two (Maximum of 5 consecutive Frost Strikes = 10 Blood Charges or Two Death Runes) where as Unholy has to build it up more (Maximum of 3 Consecutive Death Coils -- But you'll almost never reach that in the first 10 seconds of the fight as you would if you were Frost due to the increase of Runic Power generation).

Unholy makes up for that though by having much more potent Necrotic Strikes.

Necrotic Strikes are still very useful as Frost. You can mix them with your Obliterates for a deadly combination.

Edit: I suggest (depending on what you're fighting) using Necrotics whenever you have a death rune available.

Both specs are good, but dks lack utility compared to other melee right now (just look at warriors for example). They need to put gnaw on 30 sec cd, make amz baseline and put strang on 1 min cd and off gcd (it's the only silence in game thats still on gcd).
