No.  There is a better chance that we're the only life in the universe than that there is life on other planets.

Are you for real?

There is an astronomical number of planets in the universe. We are only now beginning to be able to "see" planets around other stars because of the vast distances that exist between us and them. How many there actually are is anyone's guess.

What we know about galaxies is that the ones we observe contain 200-400 billion stars each. Our solar system contains 8 planets. If we assume each star has 1 planet, and not more, and we average a galaxy to 300 billion stars we can deduce:

The Hubble Deep Field image contains 10,000 galaxies. At 2.5 arcminutes, that's roughly 1/2,000,000 of the visible universe in any direction. So if we multiply 3,000,000,000 x 10,000 x 2,000,000 we get 6 sextillion or 6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets in the visible universe. It is likely much more than that.

end copy/paste of wiki answers.

So lets say only 1% of these 6 sextillion planets has the conditions for life, that would give us 60000000000000000000 planets.

Now let’s say only 1% of the planets that have the conditions for life actually have life, but only at the cellular level.

That’s 600000000000000000 with only cellular life.

Let’s say that 1% of these planets have complex organisms.

That’s 6000000000000000 with complex but not intelligent life

Let’s say intelligent life, something equivalent to humans, has 1% chance that would still leave us with 60000000000000 planets that have intelligent life.

Obviously I’m just arbitrarily assigning % values so this is pretty heavy conjecture, but I am also ignoring moons, which could have life just as easily as planets, assuming stars and planets are on a 1:1 ratio, not counting for planets that may have contained life before it went extinct, etc.

I mean, we don’t even know what conditions life can form under, we used to think reptiles could only live in warm environments, we used to think light was a requirement for life, I mean fuck, life has been found in the outer atmosphere.

You have to be pretty bonkers to think we are the only life in an otherwise barren and desolate universe.

even if life has a 0.0000000000000000001% chance of arising, that is still 6 planets that could potentially have life if there are 60000000000000000000 planets.

There can be life in some pretty extreme environments too, although it's generally microscopic.

Can you imagine if there is alien life out there... but they want to know if it's worth contacting us, so first they check out the internet to see what we are like...

so hopefully we'll be relocated as humans by then or found a way to alter the path of our galaxy or andromeda.

Oh my God dude, you do realize that

A. The sun will eat up Earth before that happens.

B. The odds of planets colliding when galaxies collide are astronomical.
