Reverberation (Tier 2 Elemental tree talent) now reduces the cooldown of Wind Shear by 10/20 seconds, up from 0.5/1 second.

Ancestral Healing now also causes the shaman's heals to increase the target's maximum health by 5/10% of the amount healed, up to a maximum of 10% of the target's maximum health, for 15 seconds. This effect does not stack if multiple Restoration shaman are present, and does not apply to heals from procs.

Riptide's periodic healing coefficient has been increased by 50%. The initial direct heal is unchanged.

Now compare the new 4.3 spec (8/2/31):

Are these changes starting to look like buffs to you yet? For those of us who shock on CD because we are used to watching casts in gladius and using @arena1...3 macros, these changes will make sure none on the enemy team cast AT ALL. lol. I care less about the ghost wolf and extra 7% movement speed. How often do you hear people complaining about Ghost Wolf? It's the shears that everyone hates. As an example, with Tongues or Necrotic Strike plus 1.5 sec pushback, Cyclone cast is 3.7 sec cast. Add 1 second of faking to that.

And the best thing is that since nowadays you queue into the same 1-2 teams over and over, you can always spec into ghost wolf if you know it's going to be a melee cleave.

So you trade

  • Instant Ghost Wolf
  • 7% extra movement speed
  • 212 spell healing
  • Extra 10% buff for the next heal after casting Unleash life (30% instead of 20%)
  • +30% extra totem range
  • +5% to Earth Shield and Water Shield
  • 1 extra talent point in Ancestral Awakening

for:
  • 5 sec shears (instead of 25 sec)
  • 410 Spirit while hit capped
  • 3% crit (~535 crit, based on ElitistJerks stat weights, equals 380 spell power)
  • -10% mana cost of shocks (nice for frost shock, very minor mana buff)

3% crit has the value of 2/2 Elemental Weapons plus 1/3 Ancestral Awakening. Also 3% crit and 10% mana cost off shocks together more than make up for the loss of the 5% water shield buff.

410 spirit you get while being hit capped is probably at least 3 times as valuable as the +5% to Earth Shield.

So at the end you are left to choose between the Ghost wolf/+7% movement speed and 5 sec shears.

With the latest Riptide buff and Unstable Affliction damage-on-dispel nerf, the only hard cast you can expect from a Shaman playing vs a spell cleave is Hex. These healing buffs will also put Resto Shaman even higher above other healing classes in games against most other comps.

No need to say that these changes are retarded and I hope Blizzard will pull their heads out of their asses and make the -20 sec off Wind Shear available for Ele and Enhance only.


TL;DR Wind Shear now has a 5 sec CD down from 6 sec. Healing and Mana buffed.

Considering shamans do have problems with melee cleaves (afaik), lack of ghost wolf will hurt.

Why is everyone up in arms? Honestly, you know these patch notes will change 100 times from now till 4.3 goes live. AJ posters seriously need to stop searching for shit to bitch about.

Considering there are no meleecleaves at high ratings (who played after mmr change), it wont hurt one bit.

Ghostwolf is like having a p*nis, you realize how usefull it is until you lose it and have to sit down.

But ye i use ghostwolf everywhere from mailbox to AH in BGs.. or litterly everywhere i need to move around.

Its not only a PvP nerf but also "Jumping around in a square when bored" nerf :/

It needs to be more along the lines of... 25sec c/d 6 second school interrupt. And the talents reduce c/d by 10sec and the lock by 2 sec.

25sec with a 2sec lock is so bad :/

Yeah no other healers have problems with this? Priests just fear and flies off to safety? Druids just cancel their treeform and travelforms away on a cloud and Paladins just Bubble right?

Shamans who always play with Mage/Lock, Rogue/Lock, DK/Lock have no way of getting peels, they should be able to use a minor CD and just sprint away each time while ES, Riptide and Ancestral is up and keeping them on 150%. If they should drop to 95% they can just spirit link while silenced.

God forbid that they might ask for peels from now on.

Don't forget that you also will lose range on Totems. Healing Stream totem is vulnerable and if you're re-dropping it in range all the time, you're going to be putting yourself in a bad position. It's also worth quite a lot of your healing output: it tics for 1750 every 2 seconds!

Losing the range on earthbind, wrath of air, flametongue and stoneskin is a big deal too. Also, losing elemental weapons nerfs your unleash elements bonus.
