Well two things that come to mind that would help prove that rumor is
A. The art work is garbage and heroic modes make the game less fun it's bad enough they're reskinning everything but now it's also done with bosses.
B. Their modo of easy to pick up hard to master went out the door and now it's just easy for everyone.
A. They've been reskinning since TBC, this isn't a particularly new discovery. Heroic modes are something that was apart of the game's evolution, of course it's subjective as to whether or not it was the best decision. The fact is that casuals never got to experience much of TBC's content, and as someone who completed the attunements to T6 some time before they nerfed Kael'Thas, it was very difficult compared to WotLK and even today. Hence, came WotLK and what has evolved into Cataclysm.
B. That also went out the door in TBC; the only difference now is that the casual players say the game is too hard, while the hardcore players state it's too easy. Damned if you do, damned if you don't: that pretty much covers the situation here.
I forgot where I read the article, but someone actually went through the Cataclysm credits and matched a good portion of the designer/artist/engineer names to WotLK and TBC.
That said, I won't disagree that the game isn't very attractive at the moment, at least for me. Then again, I've been playing a 7 year old FPS lately (CoD:UO), so what do I know.
