With the continued popularity of the Dungeon Finder, many players have been asking for a way to group up with real-life friends who play on other realms to take on instances together. Today, we wanted to give you a heads up about a new feature currently in development that will allow players to invite Real ID friends of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.

As this is a fairly complex service to develop, we don’t have a release date to share quite yet. It’s important to note that as with some of the other convenience- and connectivity-oriented features we offer, certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service. We'll have more details to share with you as development progresses -- in the meantime, you may begin to see elements of the feature appear on the World of Warcraft PTR.

So with this, do you think we could eventually see cross realm arena teams with real ID friends? Would you support the idea of being able to arena with a real ID friend on another server? I know it would save a lot of people in the AJ community who transfer to different servers often to play with new teams, quite a bit of money

propably should be limited to ppl from ur faction and ur bg at the same time ?

I really dont see it ever happening. With BG rankings, you may be rank 30 on your friends bg but rank 40 on yours. Also it would come to a point where you wouldnt even need to server change ever. Blizzard wouldnt do that, because server/faction changes are a large part of their income. It would be an interesting idea, but highly unlikely and impractical.

Too complicated, blizzard would never invest so much time in the PvP side of the game. Remember, World of Warcraft is all about PvE.

I don't see it happening not just because blizzard would lose money on all the pvp transfers, but also because of the whole bg ladder issue and queue system. Maybe if they merge all bgs together one day I could see it then.

Assuming wow continued on being developed for an indefinite period of time, there would probably be some point in the future when all BGs are merged and you could group with people across realms for dungeons, raids, bgs, and arenas.  Clearly blizzard would be able to charge some amount for this "premium" crap, which they would ensure would end up being equal to or greater than the revenues they lose from less transfers.

That aside, I agree it's somewhat lame they make it a paid service if they're going to implement it, but oh well see point above
