The setup is gonna be pretty awesome. In theory at least.
Starting with a DF->RoF and nuking a DPSer will most likely make the healer use trinket or force some major CDs in the 1st 20 seconds of the game. After that you'll still have Strangulate HC not to mention polymorphs and X healers CC.

HC shares dr with sheep btw.

Chillin' for the season.

Official Blizzard Quote:

And Ring of Frost.

Then there is also the fact that the Chains of Ice root shares diminishing returns with Freeze and Frost Nova.

I have never understood why people think frost mages and frost death knights have good synergy. The only thing both classes have in common is the spec name.

In theory, unholy seems to have a lot more synergy with frost mages. It's a lot better at playing the rogue role that mages go so well with.

Something that would be cool to help frost's mobility could be something like a slow debuff on successful melee attacks that stacks up to 5 times. Everytime you get hit with the debuff it can reduce the targets movement speed by 5/10% and once the stack reaches 5 the target gets rooted in place for 3 secs. The debuff and root effect can be dispelled and the root effect can also share a dr with CoI to avoid QQ. I think that would help mobility for frost while not affecting the whole map like desecration and it will save dks some frost runes and it could also help casters once they get away because if they are on dr then they won't be able to get gripped and chained etc. Just a suggestion although it could be dumb but some will QQ no matter what. :-)

frost will be more than fine after patch. I think it's going to be a very well balanced spec.

If only blizzard payed attention to people that actually arena.

On the main topic, both specs fit a different niche. Frost usually being the melee comps and unholy usually fitting better with the caster comps.
