I know this may sound stupid but thinking about it, is SS even worth using?  Would I be better off using my Frost Runes for CoI and keeping descration down with PS?

No, unless you dont like killing things. The emo bitch whine about ScS is completely exaggerated, boo hoo it hits plate with a shield for garbage damage, you can deathcoil them for 10k damage right after

The best DKs use a mix, often I'll spread chains around and plague strike so I get a fat amount of rp, but when me or my hunter decides its time to rail the shit out of them I start dumping coils and scs into them regardless of class.

I guess that was more of what I was asking, outside of trying to score a kill, is it usually better just to farm RP and save your runes for slows rather than use SS anytime you can.

It completely depends on what's happening in the match and the comp you're playing.  Analyze the situation, make a decision about what you should be doing in general, and use your runes accordingly.

The biggest problem with the complaints about SS is that everyone always ignores the fact that the ability is different from the hard-hitting physical attacks in that it's extremely spammable, basically having a 3 or 4 second cooldown. It actually ends up doing a lot of pressuring damage, even on plate and especially on cloth and leather, and it does build RP.

So yeah, definitely use SS.

it still hits pretty hard on cloth, it does some damage on leather, just dont do it for the dmg on plate ;p

It still does decent damage on plate, especially if it crits. It's not bursty damage, but with how spammable the ability is, it definitely adds up.

Yeah with Trueshot Aura, Kings, and Trinket procs an average of 3.3k damage per deathcoil on someone is just ludicrous.

Thanks for the help.  I didn't realize a forum made for help and suggestions could be so demeaning >_>.  Specifically, the DK from the team that inspired me to make a post about it felt like trolling this thread.  Classy guy.

I suggest you refrain from disputing proven evidence ,especially if you have no idea about anything except spamming chains of ice.

Better yet,refrain from breathing!

didn't blizz say the shadow part was supposed to not get reduced by ANYTHING and only increased via the talents ? (This is not really a question,I remember them posting that.If it's still getting reduced then it's pretty shitty they haven't fixed it all this time)
