Well i want to learn about poker, what kind should i know about? i dont want to sound ignorant but what type of poker would be the best for a beginner that eventually wants to make a little money to learn, i dont know much about poker just basics about it and texas hold em, so would texas holdem be a good thing to learn if i wanna make some extra change eventually or is the real money in another type of poker?

You should probably plan on learning no limit texas hold'em, as this is the most popular type being played. You can find $1/$2 tables of no limit texas holde'm at almost any casino, and this is a great place to make money off of drunk gambling addicts.

The best place to learn how to play is by playing for free. I would recommend Facebook poker, because that is where I taught my wife, and the sit-n-go tournaments actually allow you to practice some solid plays (don't even bother with the ring games).

First you should learn the rules, understanding what the blinds are, how the turn order goes, and you should start out with a starting card chart. It is really a good way to start playing by being tight and passive. If you only play premium starting hands, and you check/fold unless you hit top pair or better, you can really get a feel for the game without risking a lot, though this type of play will never work against a strong player.

Just play no limit holdem, very tight and very aggressive.  It's almost impossible not to beat the lowest online stakes if you just spend some time learning very basic strategy, since most other players are going to be drunk/retarded.

The lowest online stakes are the "microstakes" which don't even exist in live casinos.  From 2NL (2 dollar buyin) up to 100NL (100 dollar buyin) is what usually considered microstakes.

Depends on the site.  1/2 cent.  But it's awful.  You will just get drowned by the rake.  If you want to start micros I'd suggest 10/25 cent or if you're really learning the basics 5/10 cent.

This is not a good advice. It's true that the fish dried last couple of years in hold'em games and most of us had to learn PLO but it's still possible to make a living playing small/mid stakes hold'em.
Someone who started to play poker has to go through hold'em because plo has a higher variance, meaning you will have bigger swings and it's always bad for beginners. Also reaching a level where u can make money from 0 is harder due to the technical aspects of plo

swings in plo are insane!
i would recomment no limit holdem.
learn the math and strategies behind no limit holdem and get a small bankroll, like 50$, that should be enaught for no nl2. but nl2 is like 1200 mmr, the players there do everything wrong and do strange moves all the time, dont try to learn from them or try to copy the strategies they do. if you wanna play real poker you should play nl50 or higher.but that requires a lot of knowledge and you would loose a lot of money if you dont have that knowledge so you should really start with nl2 or nl5.

I've only just started playing and i've been playing 1/2 cent games and 12cent buy in SNGs. The SNGs are relatively easy to win/get 2nd. I just play tight and don't throw money at hands i'm not willing to bet on. I didn't realise it was bad to play 1/2cent? What do you mean by 'drowned by the rake'?

I have about $10 on my account, should i still try $0.25/0.50? Or is my BR too low?

Really couldn't help but laugh at that.

You generally want to have 20 buyins for w/e level you're playing at.  So in your case, you don't even have 1.  1 buy in = 50$ at 25./.50c.

If  you were trolling, nice you got me

If you are total beginner go nl2 FR. If you got some exp go nl2 6max. PLO.....if you like variance and not gonna rage when you be 10BI below ev 3sessions if a row you can go PLO. And 1st deposit should be depending on your exp again. Ifyou are complete noob deposit 100$. Imo if you got exp you can easily build up BR from ~20$ playing nl2 6max/fr. Thats at least what i did.
Later on PLH easiest money but the downsides are there arent many tables and as far as i remember PLH starts at .25 on PS.

Also STT's are peasy. Tho there you would need at least 50$ imo to play 1.1$ ones.

I see, but i wasn't trolling. I found that out last night when i read it, sat down at .25/.50 with $2 and lost it all on the first hand of AQ on the River. Such a mong. ;)

I've managed to keep +EV though, even though i only play 0.02/0.04 ring games and 0.12 buy in SNGs. I don't have $100 to deposit on Poker, so it was $10 or nothing.
