A company with a ton of assets violating consumer rights? Sounds like a gravy lawsuit to me.

I don't see any cause of action here, but I graduated at the bottom of my class at law school (blame WoW), so don't take my word for it =D

Don't get the whole RealID idea...
If you have people Emails, then why not just use Skype or even better, messenger to chat with them?
Why would you want to add someone thru game, when there are other various options which are atleast working much better in my opinion.

Yup, I'm sure the ACLU will be all about protecting upper-middle class white kids from their big bad video game company

Pay your friend to steal your identity and get caught and have your friend tell them it was all Real-ID's fault.

You gave them permission when you agreed to their terms, bro. They can do anything they want with your information, you told them they could.

That's the important thing, right? =D

On the other hand, there's no privacy-related tort here.  The closest you could come might be the tort of disclosure, but your real name on an internet forum isn't "widespread dissemination of confidential information about plaintiff that would be objectionable to the average person."  Disclosure is more like Blizzard posting your tax returns online, or your health records in your armory profile, lol.

At the same time, consent is a valid defense to any privacy tort, and I can promise you that their legal department will require you to click your way through several consent forms before posting on the forums.

Hey, I don't think you've read the ToS or EULA, I have.

There is absolutely nowhere in them does it say they have the right to post personal information about me.

Your wrong.

You can make fairness arguments and safety arguments against the RealID system, but you can't make good legal arguments.  At least, not within the U.S.  Your name just isn't sufficiently private to give rise to tort liability in this situation.

At the same time, they're almost certain to have new consent forms when the new forum launches.
