My goal is to figure out the best damage/utility/survival combo for protret in s8.

The control equipment I will be using are PvE str offsets; Neck, cloak, rings, and shield. Trinkets I have eqipped are Greatness, and BM's Rage. I am suggesting that a WG resil trinket used in place of BM's Rage for combo 3. The spec used is 53/18.

The variable equipment I am considering are these 3 combinations:

1. 4 Piece s8 gear, Marrowgar chest - This combo will give the highest str and resil of the 3 combos. The Chest gives a large amount of str, has 3 sockets, and grants hit. The 4 piece bonus adds AP, Resil, and a second off judgement cd. It is my guess that this will be the most popular. It holds the highest survivability of the 4, most crit, most +spell damage (strongest sacred shield), but least damage.
-HotR Dmg: 2800
-SoR Dmg: 2936
-Judgement Dmg (with glyph): 2050
-Crit %: 35.07
-Resilience: 746
*Damage calculated using 5/5 s7 pieces. 5/5 SoV stacked.

2. 2 Piece Toc 25 prot, 3 pieces of s8 gear - The ToC pieces being the Legs and Helm because they add SBV, add 580 SBV - a 21% increase to SoR damage, and a useful 53 hit on the legs. The 2 piece 5% bonus to HoR is nice too. Lower resil, no 4 piece bonus.
-HotR Dmg: 2889
-SoR Damage: 3564
-Judgement Dmg (with glyph): 2002
-Crit %: 31.22%
-Resilience: 566
*Damage calculated using 2 Toc, 3 s7 pieces. 5/5 SoV stacked.

3. 2 Piece Icc 25 prot, 2 piece ToC 25 Prot, 1 Piece s8 - Your resil will fall to the 400's, so using the new WG resil trink may be a good idea since str > resil > AP. I would also use +20 resil gems for my yellow sockets. Your crit will also fall to 27%. But you trade this to get 25% more HoR damage (5% toc + 20% icc) and ~21% more Shield damage (580 SBV). This grants the most damage by far.
-HotR Dmg: 3467
-SoR Damage: 3564
-Judgement Dmg: 2002
-Crit %: 26.93
-Resilience: 419 (using a 120 s8 resil trinket, yes thats an estimate), could go higher with +20 resil gems
*Damage calculated using 2 ToC pieces, 3 s7 pieces, adding 20% to HotR. 5/5 SoV stacked. Crit and Resil correctly adjusted.

-Another combo to consider is 4/5 s8, 1 ToC prot legs. This gives the 4 piece bonus, is high in str, crit, and resil. The legs give a strong boost to SoR, hitting for 3290, and push you above the hit cap with +53 hit.
-I did not like include a 3 s8, 2 icc25 combo because I do not believe the 20% HotR bonus is worth the resil, crit, and 4 piece bonus drop. SoR hits below 3k, and hit is now a problem, since there is no hit on any of the 5 pieces.

All damage is calculated without the use of the 200 str trinket proc, 300 str greatness proc, or berserking proc. I currently use combo 2, which I believe was the best for s7. For s8, I am currently leaning towards combo 1, but combo 3 is so tempting.

Your thoughts?

I read somewhere about some pret pallies using 4t10 ret for the 10% seal and judgement damage (and pve damage stats). Any information on this in comparison to the 3 listed here?

i dont even think that would be good. most prot/rets avoid the judgement glyph and seals of the pure so i dont see how this would be any different, especially considering all the worthless haste on the pve set and the worthless 2 piece.

2 piece 2 piece prot would be amazingly funny though. i'm going to make a gear set and see what i can do with it.

I'm obsessed with crit now, so I stick to the PvP main pieces. I'm at 43% and when I use tanking pieces it feels awkward.

It's a burst spec, crits win games.

Look at the strength difference between t10 helm and s7 and between t10 hand and s7.

Moreover i dont need more hit (t10 hand).

You're strength may be that high because of the DK and Druid buffs. But you're base strength of 2150 and 30% crit are a little low. You're burst is no doubt formidable, but you have room for improvement.

Tintin, I noticed this season, as well as the last, you've been using the spell crit shield over a ToC shield. I have also used one on occasion, but I find myself missing the 100 str and 126 SBV.

Also, you're doing extremely well with the 2 piece t10. Do you plan on swapping that with s8 gear once it becomes available, or is your plan to upgrade and stay with t10?

I run the same comp as you in 2's, and we beat everything that isn't priest/mage, priest/lock, or affliclock/healer. You going 83-9 tells me you guys may find ways to beat these comps. Priest/mage just makes us look foolish. Or have you been lucky and not seen too many of them?

I dont have a ToC shield :(

I will stay with t10.

Mage/Priest isn't difficult, just a long game.

and you cant win warlock+heal if thez have bind their skill ><

80% of my loose are warlock/druid,sham,priest.

Question about the equipement

I have a Toc 10 shield (Str block value etc...). Do you think the wraithful shield(crit spell resi...) is better?

You need a shaman to win against warlock teams.
I played with a priest first (priest prot pally) and now I play with a shaman. We have lost all games against priest lock even if they had 1900MMR but now we can at least beat them until ~2300MMR.
But I guess we wont beat the high rated ones.

and gratz to 2.7k+ tintin :>
Would like to play against you when my shaman gets some better gear. Need to push his rating little higher. I'm Hellfish btw(should register my pally maybe :< )

@topic question: I will try 2 pc t10 (shoulders, hands, need hit), 1pc t9 hc (legs) and 2pc s8

Now discuss 3v3 please, much more usefull than this crap.

Mage/Priest isn't difficult, just a long game.

Maybe on Hinterhalt it isnt lol, sorry but I never saw a Protpaladin being Immune to sheep :P

Edit: sorry for the "harsh" tone, not intended but... Keep it usefull :P
