I'm comfortable doing some REGEDIT, so I'll try the manual change and see what happens.

If something gets jacked up, is there an easy way to revert the changes? I didn't read through the directions a second time yet and haven't done the changes so I'm not sure if it's really obvious or not.

If you run the program from curse, that will let you change back the settings to what they were before.

Meh, screw the program, this was terribly easy to do. All you do is go to a specific "folder" and add a new variable, name it, and set it to "1". Presumably to reverse this all I have to do is delete the entry.

I was at about 170 ms average before, gunna test this out. Thanks for the thread - assuming this does something good for me :)

this is happening to me too on Vista. How do you revert the changes?

Just delete the DWORD(s) you created.

Ended up doing this. Pings went from 170 average to 500-750, dunno if it's an unrelated fluke or not. Either way, reverting.

Thanks.

The registry fix only fixes half the problem for Oceanic players. At the server end blizzard still has the nagle alogorithm ON (it's off in the wow client but NOT at the server).

Using a ssh tunnel like lowerping, gamepath etc will always get you the lowest ping if you play from Australian, New Zealand or Singapore on US servers.

With a normal connection from like NZ/AU/SG to a wow server in the US

1: Server sends you a packet of data and waits for acknowledgement
2: The packet takes 200-250ms to get to you then 200-250ms for you to send the response
3: So 400-500ms total later the server sends the next packet of data hence the retarded ping

Using a SSH Tunnel (lowerping, gamepath etc):

1: The wow server sends you a packet of data it takes 30ms to get to the US hosted SSH server, then ~100-200ms to get to your pc.
2: The SSH server in the US acknowledges the packet immediately at 30ms
3: The wow server sends another packet.
4: Profit

Wow Server Nagle Algorithm is defeated and the peons rejoice.

Don't need to use a program, just regedit add a couple of DWORD values and voila

I tried FasterPing and it readuced my latency by 100~~, but my CS 1.6 kept crashing so I tried to set it back to 2, but my windows doesnt let me use that program anymore. Checked Swifyts video and changed it manually back to 2, but CS is still lagging. Anyone?

Edit: just remembered that CS started lagging after installing Vista 32bit Service Pack 1, still help needed

I use wowtunnels and in general I like it alot.
Fails for me though because of my wireless internet card.
I generally get lag spikes (lasting between 1-3 seconds) and tunneling (somehow) makes these spikes more frequent.

However on this laptop it's madness. Give it a shot.

So.. does anyone know any latency reducing patches that still exist and work for the new patches/lich king expansion?
This all looks very interesting since i'm usually around 500! but none of these links seem to work anymore..

unfortunatly with WOTLK looming overhead noone is really making it first priority to release new addons and such. WOTLK will most likely end up out of dating anything anyone makes as of now. most people prolly already know but blizzard has ben working on latency issues and i have noticed they have improved server lag significantly now.
