Isn't it possible to have a macro that will use it IF the pet has a target? Something in line with [target=pettarget, exists]?

edit: So basicly I'm thinking like this:
/cast Chimera Shot
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Bite

Ok, so that macro is awesome. I ended up dropping my 1 point in GFtT since there is no point having it with a serpent since you have to leave bite off of auto to reliably use the spit.

Now, one more question:

Is there a way to macro my spit to serpent sting so that if my pet isn't attacking anything he spits and stays by my side, and that if hes already attacking he will spit and keep attacking?

As far as I can tell, there is no way to create such a macro.

edit: Basicly, the only thing you can check is your pets current target, but since any pet ability forces a switch in current target, you can't send it back to the first one again.

I made this macro:

/cast serpent sting
/cast Poison Spit
/petfollow [target=pettarget,noexists]
/petattack [target=pettarget,exists]

It worked fine on target dummies

/cast [target=focus, modifier:shift] serpent sting; serpent sting
/use [target=focus, modifier:shift] Poison Spit; Poison Spit
/petfollow [target=pettarget,noexists]
/petattack [target=pettarget,exists]

This will do same thing, but if you hold shift will cast it on your focus. Pet will still attack current target and poison spit your focus. This can help you cover poison spit on targets your just trying to slow casting speed.

I didn't even try that type of macro since /cast Poison Spit forces a switch in pet target, therefor not allowing '[target=pettarget, exists] to work properly since it will reference the target which it casts Spit on rather then the previous target.

Are you saying that it works anyway? Guess the separate lines could be ran as separate threads therefor not registering the target switch in time. Have to try it myself.

edit: Hmm, some intriguing results.

* '/cast Poison Spit' followed by a '/petfollow [target=pettarget, noexists] actually sets the pet on follow, even though it should have a target (Poison Spit forces attack). This is useful, thanks for testing it!

* Had some really strange stuff going on when using three targets. I attacked target A, pet on target B, focus set to target C. Using the macro SS and PS both went on the focus ©, but the pet then started attacking my target (A), which seems impossible since '[target=pettarget]' should never be target A?

edit2: '/petattack [target=pettarget, exists]' is really strange. If the pet has no target it will evaluate to false, but if the pet has a target it will always attack _your_ target, rather then the pets target.

Easy fix

Just need to add pettarget to the end of [target=pettarget, exists]

All [target=pettarget, exists] does is a check to see if he has a target.

This will keep your serpent attacking whatever he currently is on:
/cast [target=focus, modifier:shift] serpent sting; serpent sting
/use [target=focus, modifier:shift] Poison Spit; Poison Spit
/petfollow [target=pettarget,noexists]
/petattack [target=pettarget,exists] pettarget

You do have to make sure though your pet is in LOS of the target you want him to poison, he will stay on his current target and wont go after the player to apply the poison.

All [target=pettarget, exists] does is a check to see if he has a target.

You see this is my problem with it, in all other instances where I use [target=x] it also sets the target of the specific action.

This is taken from Cogwheels extensive macro guide:
"Besides setting the target of the action itself, the [target=] assignment also sets the unit that the conditionals are checked against."

Either way, your fix obviously works! Thanks for your help. :)
