Scourge Strike: Redesigned. The base ability now deals 50% weapon damage plus an additional amount as physical damage. However, for each disease the death knight has on the target, the target will take additional shadow damage equal to 25% of the physical damage done.

discuss ._.

I can't tell if this is a buff or nerf.

How much "additional physical damage"? Weird if it doesn't say.

edit: ow, it's there
+Unholy Blight: This talent now deals only 10% of Death Coil damage as a damage-over-time effect on the target.

It appears to be an attempt to make scourge strike our main attack again instead of death coil, thus the Unholy Blight nerf. If it plays out like that remains to be seen.

It did damage as if it was going through plate anyway.
This is an overall damage buff for the strike.

So maybe now we need both spell and armor pen. K.

No, it just means armor pen isn't completely useless for unholy.
I probably wouldn't stack it.

Wouldn't it depend on how much the "additional damage as physical is" odd they don't specify. Very weird ability though.

You wouldn't stack or shoot for much if any armor pen for unholy because of disease and death coil damage.
They dont benefit from it, but in pve if you happen to have a piece or weapon with it on it, then its not complete garbage.

The way it's worded, it's 25% of the PHYSICAL damage component.

So 50% weapon damage + 100 physical damage + 25% of the 100 physical x 3 diseases = 50% + 100 physical + 75 shadow.

GG Plate

or...

50% Weapon damage + 1000 physical damage +25% of the 1000 physical damage x 3 diseases = 50% + 1000 + 750 shadow.

GG Cloth

Nobody knows what the physical component is yet exactly.

If the physical and magic damage are seperate, they might double dip into damage % bonuses.

Live :

0 disease Scourge Strike -> 52,8% weapon damage as Shadow.
Frost Fever Scourge Strike -> 58,08% weapon damage as Shadow.
Blood Plague Scourge Strike -> 63,89% weapon damage as Shadow.
Ebon Plague Scourge Strike -> 65,63% weapon damage as Shadow.
FF + BP Scourge Strike -> 69,70% weapon damage as Shadow.
FF + EP Scourge Strike -> 71,60% weapon damage as Shadow.
BP + EP Scourge Strike -> 78,76% weapon damage as Shadow.
3-disease Scourge Strike -> 85,32% weapon damage as Shadow.

PTR, if Shadow damage is affected by Ebon Plague/Black Ice, but Rage of Rivendare applies only once on the physical part of SS but doesn't overlap onto the shadow part :

0-disease Scourge Strike -> 60% weapon damage
FF Scourge Strike -> 76,5% weapon damage
BP Scourge Strike -> 84,15% weapon damage
EP Scourge Strike -> 78,45% weapon damage
FF + BP Scourge Strike -> 102,3% weapon damage
FF + EP Scourge Strike -> 96,9% weapon damage
BP + EP Scourge Strike -> 106,59% weapon damage
3-disease Scourge Strike -> 126,89% weapon damage

Difference in Weapon Damage :

0-disease Scourge Strike -> +7,2% Weapon Damage, Relative Difference is +13,64%.
Turns out to be better when the target has less than 2077 armor.
FF Scourge Strike -> +18,42% Weapon Damage, Relative Difference is +31,71%.
Turns out to be better when the target has less than 4830 armor.
BP Scourge Strike -> +20,26% Weapon Damage, Relative Difference is +31,71%.
Turns out to be better when the target has less than 4830 armor.
EP Scourge Strike -> +12,82% Weapon Damage, Relative Difference is +19,53%.
Turns out to be better when the target has less than 2975 armor.
FF + BP Scourge Strike -> +32,6% Weapon Damage, Relative Difference is +46,78%.
Turns out to be better when the target has less than 7125 armor.
FF + EP Scourge Strike -> +25,3% Weapon Damage, Relative Difference is +35,34%.
Turns out to be better when the target has less than 5383 armor.
BP + EP Scourge Strike -> +27,83% Weapon Damage, Relative Difference is +35,34%.
Turns out to be better when the target has less than 5383 armor.
3-disease Scourge Strike -> +41,57% Weapon Damage, Relative Difference is +48,72%.
Turns out to be better when the target has less than 7420 armor.

It's quite hard to read but numbers are numbers.

The only thing I'm missing is a proper fazit :-)

It would be a buff if the bonus was the same.

It is also based on the assumption that the shadow damage is buffed by Black Ice/Ebon Plague, else why would it be shadow damage instead of a flat +25% increase? necrosis, however, doesn't work like that, so who knows how it might end.

It is also based on the assumption that Blood Presence and RoR aren't double dipping.
