Survival (0/15/56) by Pangeea
The typical Survival build without Counterattack, suited for any bracket. Focused on lowering trap CD's along with 4-piece bonus for double frost trap goodness, and minimizing Disengage CD (in combination with its glyph).
Swing points:
- 1/2 GftT vs. 1/3 Focused Aim
- Surefooted/Entrapment/Improved Wing Clip: Pick two. if you're getting Freedom spammed you might be able to neglect Surefooted.
- 2/5 Hunting Party vs. 2/2 Point of no Escape
Marksmanship (15)

| my only question to this spec is isnt improved tracking going to be more higher overall damage than a lot of the other options you have. Other than that it seems like a very solid spec. | |
| Feb 4, 2009 - 10:10 AM (HideShow) | |
| and randomly i'd take 2 out of master tactician and put them in PoNE since 6% is quite a boost | |
| Feb 4, 2009 - 10:51 AM (HideShow) | |
| I don't put more in Imp. Tracking because it doesn't include Track Hidden. The 2 pts from MT into PoNE is a good idea | |
| Feb 4, 2009 - 1:20 PM (HideShow) | |
| Is realy the 3 points in <Resourcefulness> worth it? Rather use them in 2/2 PoNE and 3/3 EW, Imo you gain much more overall | |
| Feb 4, 2009 - 3:04 PM (HideShow) | |
| It does what it says in the tooltip, and that's pretty good to me. It turns our 4-piece into something useful. Most importantly it makes juggling frost traps easier and by that it's greatly responsible for proccing LNL's like a bitch | |
| Feb 5, 2009 - 10:01 AM (HideShow) | |
| I would like to add, as most are running with a crab Focused aim > GftT unless you add /cast [target=pettarget] Claw to your explosive shot you wont need that focus. and for DPS PoNE is > MT much more reliable as you will try to focus having opponents around your frost trap. And with that change, 2 points in MT or HP is all about wich comp you are running if you need the mana or not | |
| Feb 5, 2009 - 4:10 PM (HideShow) | |
| hey guys im not that familiar with entrapment mechanic yet... but is it the same as before that it can proc anytime the enemy is on the frost trap or its just as soon as they hit the trap... because if that's whats going to happen, isn't imp WC way more better? | |
| Feb 6, 2009 - 8:18 AM (HideShow) | |
| I don't know exactly how the proccs works, but yes it can procc at any time. My guess is that it pulses like totems. | |
| Feb 6, 2009 - 6:26 PM (HideShow) | |
| from what i hear it pulses like every 3 seconds the target has a 25% chance to be entrapped | |
| Feb 9, 2009 - 7:07 AM (HideShow) | |
| Trap Mastery? Why? The freeze still can't go over 10 second duration in PvP, and if you're doing it for the 30% increased duration on Frost trap, Resourcefulness is way overkill in my opinion, not to mention 2 seconds off cooldown anyways from set bonus. The new lock and load cooldown being 30 seconds kinda offsets so much trap cooldown decrease anyways. It's almost contradicting how the spec goes into so much freedom to move your frost aura around, but then it doesn't even include PoNE. | |

| what is the best pet for arena atm and I have notice many high rating hunters with spell penetration as enchants in gears and in gems can some1 talk a bit about that thanks | |
| Feb 12, 2009 - 5:25 PM (HideShow) | |
| usual pet these days in arena is a crab for the 4s pin. Also because it is a tenacity pet, you get more survivability, Roar of Sacrifice every 30s and pet Last Stand. The spell pen is used to mitigate the partial resists on explosive shots for teams that are buffed to increase their spell resistance. A lot of hunters will have the 35 spell pen enchant to cloak along with 2 +20 spell pen gems in their gear to counter that effect. hope that helped | |
| Hunter | Feb 12, 2009 - 6:09 PM (HideShow) |
| umm noxious stings? isnt that worth it? | |
| Feb 12, 2009 - 6:36 PM (HideShow) | |
| Thanks Shiz I was doing arena with my cat since I can instant res it 1+ thing and I hope I don't bother too much how should I respect my pet to increase the stamina and the healing done to it or any otherway | |
| Feb 14, 2009 - 2:56 PM (HideShow) | |
| What spec do your pets use in Arenas? I've read people using Crabs and Cats, depending on the bracket. | |
| Feb 14, 2009 - 4:24 PM (HideShow) | |
| Crabs are tenacity and will usually have Blood of the rhino for increased healing taken, intervene, Roar of Sacrifice for 30% damage transfer to the pet and Last stand (varies from hunter to hunter). Crabs are popular because of the 4s pin they have and all of the above. some others use turtles for spell shield but i have yet to test it | |
| Feb 17, 2009 - 10:05 AM (HideShow) | |
| noxious stings is more of a pve talent. yes, the 3% damage boost is nice, but you can almost certainly make that up in other more pvp oriented talents throughout the tree. and if you don't even fit those points under a straight damage boost, you can easily find a utility talent to put them in (ie imp wing clip, entrapment, surefooted). so i understand the spell penetration thing for hunters, but it seems like most of the top end comps wouldn't feature enough spell resistances to make it worthwhile in the higher brackets. is that true? also, how much spell penetration is considered to be the golden amount? shiz mentioned 35 to cloak and two 20 gems, yielding 75. that sounds like an appropriate number, just wanted to make sure. | |
| Feb 17, 2009 - 5:03 PM (HideShow) | |
| i would go 2/3 resourcefulness 3/5 Master Tact then go 3/3 Point of no escape other than that perfecto | |
| Feb 17, 2009 - 5:26 PM (HideShow) | |
| This is by no means *the* cookie cutter spec, such a thing doesn't exist. I submitted this spec aiming to make it work well in all brackets, and it does just that. Any modifications are "minor" and individual - There are loads of variations and talents you can move around to suit your specific needs. Also, a lot of the questions asked here have been answered beforehand here: http://www.arenajunkies.com/showthread.php?t=62874 if not there's a search function on the forums too, which should get you the information you want :> | |

| I got maybe a newby question but it is better to b a newby than a fool for not asking and pretend I know. How or what addon u use to see the player the way u see them on the videos the enemy and my partner( I mean big like that and with those specials effects like moving their faces) I like it and it will help me to b aware of them and my partner. I use Gladius addon but I still learning it how u set it up to let u know big on the screen when a cast is rdy. Thanks once again. I'm starting to putting together in arena I got a resto shaman and we pass the 1700 Bracket already then went down to 1698 I know still low but for me it is a progress thanks u guys | |

| @ Ghostybow PONE = Point of no Escape (deep survival) 1 point in GFTT should generate plenty of focus regen for your pet in order to greatly increase its damage. I know that we generally aren't BM spec here in arenas but your pet is still a valuable tool both to pressure and damage the other team. Even 1 point in GFTT increases your pets usefulness exponentially, and if you are critting as much as we should then 2 points would be overkill. Sorry for the over complicated answer to a simple question, but in certain situations that 1 point can be the difference between a win and a loss. | |

| @ Mekite Hold still for 6 sec in arenas, especially if you are fighting against my team. =) | |

| Hi Pangeea, do you still play WoW? How does a 3.1 Survival build look? Trap Mastery was replaced with Black Arrow, and Trap Mastery was moved to Tier 2. Lots of talents were also changed. There's some debate whether MM or Surv is best in 3.1. Please help me out. ;-) | |

| Hi Bugmenot. After 3 years of playing Hunter I retired the char and rolled a rogue. This is the spec I would use. http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#cZ0eV0oZe0IiofIheuhMod:0kszM | |

| Sarcophilus has a nice build there, however in 3.1 I would recommend at least 2 in master tactician and you can drop 1 from Hunting Party and one from Expose Weakness. Even with a high resilience opponent, you should still crit once every 7 seconds to keep it up, better spent elsewhere. Also, the crit on Sniper Training is pretty huge for fininshing players off, but I guess that is situational. I feel strongly about the Master Tactician and Expose Weakness changes though. | |
