| I started playing this team like one week ago, 1861 already, easily, without any problems. Only problem we have is against War/Druid, mainly because our drain tactic sometimes doesn't work as well. | |
| Mar 6, 2008 - 3:34 AM (HideShow) | |
| Oh btw, forgot about it. For hunter/druid, the strat preety much is drain mana the hunter and dot up everything, putting pressure on the druid, and therefore draining him. The match can get preety much shitty if they get some drinks off. | |

| Having hit 2k with this combo; I find the hardest fights to be druid/hunter and disc priest/rogues. Any suggestions for these matchups? | |
| Mar 6, 2008 - 5:54 AM (HideShow) | |
| Saberethil: If your drain tactic isn't working on Warrior/Druid (I'm assuming you mean warrior, not warlock) I'd suggest my strat. It works far more reliably for us, at least. We've only ever fought TWO hunter/druid teams. One was Megatf and Chances, in about the third week, it was like a 20 minute monotonous, boring game where we lost in the end because we didn't really know what we were doing back then. The other team we beat though - we used a VW, DoT up the hunter, pet, and druid. If the opportunity arises, kill the pet, Mana Drain the hunter. After the pet is dead, keep the hunters mana below whatever it is that they can res the pet with (if possible) and just keep DPS on the hunter, and keep the druid in combat. That's what we did, I can't guarantee it's gonna work, and like I said, we've only fought one hunter/druid team that wasn't Megatf/Chances, so I didn't really feel like I knew enough to put a real strat up. Sorry. :/ Shockerz: Same as above in regards to Druid/Hunter. Discpriest/rogue is pretty much a loss, sorry. I can detail exactly why, but there's not much you can do to combat it. The rogue pours insane damage on your warlock, the priest dispels ES/kills Totems. Obviously you need to be in LoS to heal the warlock, but the priest will mana burn you if you do that. Simply by the priest running over to you, can be an amazing amount of pressure (due to the possibility of being feared/mana burned 58959859978278512 times). They're going to outlast your mana, basically. Game over then. There's honestly not much you can do against it. Just hope you don't get them again. In fact, as you can see, my rating has dropped about 60 points this week. Discpriest/rogue... yeah. It's not fun. | |

| Yah, just wanted to point it out for anyone that was having problems with that combo. And yah, any opportunity you have to kill the pet, make use of it, you can get a ton of drinks if the pet is dead. Only problem is when the hunter revives pet or he gets some drinks off. @ Komaya: Yah, I was reading that out today, but it looks as it needs perfect execution. I guess it's a matter of time and get used to it. Btw, I haven't read much about the strat against Warlock @ Shockerz: I dont really have trouble against Hunter/Druid, we lose just because we made many errors in the same match, for example, not keeping an eye on the hunter, letting him revive pet, or my pet dying twice. This team can get really annoying when both are Night Elf and they play in Blade's Edge. Shadowmeld + Drink is a biatch. And about priest/rogue, nothing you can do tbh. Just try and drain the priest's mana. Dot up the rogue, dot up the priest, purge priest, drain mana on priest, and try and hold the rogue. Use CoEx as much as possible. @ Entendu: sup :) | |

| I started this combo over the weekend, so far we have only lost to the double dps rogue/lock, rogue/mage, rogue/spriest (we got those all in a row too...). So far we haven't had any problems against dps/druid... However our last game tonight was sham/warr. We lost pretty badly, the warrior was doing tons of dps to my lock and I could only spare a few gcd's to lust/grounding tot and a couple shocks on their shaman. In the end, they killed the felpup, purged his fel domination and killed him >< That's the first time we've fought that team, any suggestions? | |
| Mar 7, 2008 - 9:45 AM (HideShow) | |
| Alliene: We haven't fought that team ever, though, if we did, we'd probably try a CoT -> ES/SpellLock/ES rotation on the shaman and try and burst the warrior or shaman (depends on if the warrior is playing defensively, LoS, etc.) Try and keep WF totems killed as much as possible. I don't know what we'd do if we had to get a Voidwalker out. Mitigates the Warrior's damage somewhat, but eh, draining a shaman doesn't work that great when you have a voidwalker, since water shieldlol. Honestly, all we really fought was Druid/Warlock, Druid/Warrior, Discpriest/Rogue, for the most part. That's why I wrote such a long guide for the former 2, and, as everyone should know, Discpriest/Rogue is kind of an auto loss. Good luck, though :/ | |

| We only faced War/Shammy twice, against different people. On our first attempt, we went for the warrior, and CC'd the shammy. But tbh, it was extremely hard to control that Shammy, as he could also earth shock my fears and my shammy's healing waves and the warrior was pummeling all the fears I attempted on the shammy. The warrior had infinite rage, and with Windfury he just chewed me. Next time, what we tried was play extremely offensive on the shammy, Curse of Tongues, Spell Lock, ES and Fear to interrupt too. I was also using my totem breaker macro. This means the warrior has preety much no rage, and no windfury, making the lock able enough to tank it a few secs. Searing Pain on the shammy is really important, as you need to burst him down quick. Anyway, this combo is preety much something we havent experienced, but what I know is that draining wont work, killing the warrior is extremely hard to do before your warlock dies, so that makes the "killing shaman quick" the most viable. Leaving the warrior alone is the only way to "wipe their DPS", preety much like Hunter/Healer team where draining the hunter's mana is the most viable strategy. | |

| My partner and I are at 2416 right now with this combo. Rogue/Priest is still very beatable, we actually only have problems with Warrior/Priest. For Rogue/Priest, the trick is you can combat drink when they cannot because you have a pet and they don't. As the Shaman, keep your distance from the priest if possible, and always keep your eye on his positioning. If he starts running towards you then he is obviously going to fear you. Keeping a snare up on the priest can help. Pay attention to your tremor totem and don't stand right next to it. This gives you time to put another tremor down if the Priest kills it before he fears you. If he fears you before he kills your totem, and you are far away enough from the totem, it will tick before the Priest kills it. The other thing you must pay attention to is the poisons on your partner. The trick to combat drinking vs this combo is this: instead of spamming cure poison (and keeping yourself in combat), spam poison cleansing totem. This will clear poisons without putting you in combat which will allow you to throw a big heal and drink. As the Warlock, don't bother draining mana. Stay mobile with a CoEx on the rogue. Eventually crippling poison will get cured off and you can escape. Escaping even only for a little bit will help tremendously as it will reduce the Rogue's dps to 0 and stop the wound poisons from stacking. If the Rogue is mutilate spec and is targeting your pet, have the pet attack the Rogue instead of the Priest. This stops the Rogue from being able to use mutilate because he can't get behind the pet unless he stuns it. That's all the things I can think of right now. I'll add more if I remember something. | |
| Mar 9, 2008 - 4:54 AM (HideShow) | |
| Currently doing this set up (2294) and pretty much every team is cake EXCEPT rogue/healer. We play very agressive (lock is 27/34/0 rather then 23/38) Lock/healer is too easy due to watershield. Never let anyone go below 80% up. Mana isn't a problem Warrior/healer is really fun. Just drain for a few mins, let healer run and drink. Then bam fully dot him AND do this chain lighting frost shock natures swiftness lighting bolt death coil healer Rogue healer- chain silence healer , pray it works Hunter/druid drain hunter | |

| Heh, I never thought of spamming the totem, Clefairy. As soon as my partner comes back (he's been gone for 8 days and never said anything... :/) I'm going to do that and see how we go against discpriest/rogue. Thanks for that! | |

| We constantly lose against dpriest/lock teams. They both drain me, while priest dispells offensively and defensively. Any sugestions? | |
| Mar 22, 2008 - 12:40 AM (HideShow) | |
| DPriest/Warlock is easy. Just find a pole to run in circles around to LoS his mana burns, rank 1 earth shock/ground all mana drains, and spam water shield and tremor totem. Your Warlock should CC/drain the Priest and eventually he will go oom while you're sitting on a nice amount of mana due to water shield. | |

| I started this set up about a month of so ago, we flew to 1900 in a matter of hours. now we're in the mid 2ks (currently 2030) and now all we're having trouble with are rogue/druid and warrior/druid teams (rogue dpriest teams or just unbeatable, luckily we haven't seen that set up in a while) rogue/druid - typically, i'm locked down, the healer is out or range (or los) of my drains, and i'm there face to face with a rogue unable to do much but refresh dots. the poor shaman can't do much to help me other than heal, and maybe FS. the usual outcome is my shaman will be standing 20 feet away from me, call out in vent, "i'm oom.. you're dead kid", then i'll die. as a warlock, i'm not sure what i can be doing differently.. (any warlock will tell you how crippled and narrowed your choice(s) actions are when stuck dealing face to face with a rogue) i fear when i can, but even when i do get one off, it really just prolonges the defeat a few more seconds. druid/warrior- the warrior will omgwtfpwn my pet, i'll pull him back to allow him to get heals, but it will eventaully die. i'll get another one, and that will usually die too. then i die, no doubt. (void of course) I know killing a voidwalker shouldn't be THAT effortless, sometimes i think my healer is just too slow at throwing him heals. if the warrior decides NOT to kill my pet, then we've got a chance fighting chance, (when we win this combo, it's when the druid goes oom, or to drink, and we both burst the warrior, this usually happens when the warrior isn't sitting on me the whole fight) when we lose this combo, it's the same reason with the rogue team, i'm taking too much damage, the warrior is on me the entire time, can't get to the healer, and then i drop eventually. druid at 70%+ mana. Not sure how to deal with these teams when the melee is sitting right on me the whole fight. Is that when my shaman needs to up his game, get in there and act more offensivly to sit in for my crippled offensive play? Do we need to orchestrate better CCing? I dont kno | |

| I'm planning on making one on Bg9 sometime soon =P But no, haven't seen any movies around of it. But I bet you it's going to be a more popular setup in 2.4 | |
| Mar 28, 2008 - 11:21 PM (HideShow) | |
| Well. I always thought about this setup because of endless mana and stuff but my biggest problem is that there are no rshammies on my server, Dragonmaw. But yes, a video would be nice so i maybe can get some ideas about tacs and stuff :P | |
| Apr 5, 2008 - 9:06 AM (HideShow) | |
| with this setup it is impossible to beat priest/rogue. i'm not sure what clefairy is talking about with the shaman getting drinks off, either the priest wands the shaman BEFORE he gets drinks off or the priest is out of LOS of the shaman and just mana burns me (the lock) and achieves the same goal of burning me down and taking up the sham's mana to heal me. it is literally impossible to escape from a SHS rogue, the most i am away from the rogue is for 10 seconds and he is on me again. 1 big heal doesn't help when we are both constantly losing mana and the priest barely has to heal at all, between CLOS and such. I have tried everything, kiting with CoEX, kiting with frost shock rank 1, tounges on the priest, amp agony on the priest, CoEX on the priest so he can't fear or move around easily, frost shock / CoEX on both to limit their mobility. my shaman is known as the best resto shaman on the server and it is impossible for us to win against a team that knows what they are doing. whoever says this team is easy to outlast because the shaman can combat drink is obviously not playing against any team that has a priest that knows what they are doing. i have played in the 2100+ bracket and my team was the top team on the server in the beginning weeks of season 3, and ranked 40th or so on the battlegroup. we have contended with many of the top teams and we have lost 24 points in countless matches against 1900 rated discpriest/rogue teams with shitty gear just because it is literally impossible for them to lose as long as the priest has a wand button and a right mouse button to whack the shaman every so often. there is a reason there is no "matchup" page for discpriest/rogue in this guide, it is because if you go up against this team 99.9% of the time you will lose as long as the other team members are not somehow mentally challenged. | |
| Apr 8, 2008 - 5:32 AM (HideShow) | |
| YOU CAN AUTO GHOST WOLF RUN FROM THE PRIEST AND DRINK FEAR THE PRIEST OFF YOUR SHAMAN CoEX THE ROGUE w/ frost shock and earthbind totem | |
| Apr 8, 2008 - 4:22 PM (HideShow) | |
| lol celebrate i never said the shaman can't get away, if the sham is out of reach of the priest the priest just mana burns me and its the same thing. and then my shaman is on the other side of a poll drinking while i have 0 mana and cant even cast a single dot and im just being pounded on with no earth shield or fel armor. sometimes the priest throws some hots and a shield fears my pet (voidwalker) and goes to drink as well. there really is no way to beat this team, and if someone can come up with a plan that i think might actually beat 2 intelligent priest/rogue players please put up a strat. until then this team is auto-loss | |
| Apr 8, 2008 - 10:56 PM (HideShow) | |
| Wizorlock, just a couple tips: We use a felhunter, not a void. Spell locks and extra shadow resist will help against mana burns, devour magic hots or if your shaman gets feared, paranoia to stop the rogue's opener, and the felhunter itself is harder to fear. Plus rogues can't kill felhunters nearly as fast as a warriors can. Your shaman should feel free to recast earth shield now since it's only 450 mana. Even if it heals for a couple charges before it gets dispelled it is worth the mana. Also, if your shaman has the 30% buff dispel resist, occasionally the priest will end up spending more mana trying to remove earth shield than it cost to put it on. The match is on your shaman's shoulders to shock/ground/avoid all mana burns, purge hots/shields, keep poisons off you, and drink as much as possible all at the same time. I never said the matchup was easy, it takes a lot of skill and you really have to outplay the other team to win. But it isn't impossible, and win rate is about 50% against it in the 2400 bracket. | |

| Myself and Saberethil got to 2000 this week after a lot of fighting Warr/druid and DPreist/Rogue. I believe we have the Dpriest/rogue group down pretty well, the win/lose ratio is about 50/50 but the last 3 or 4 warrior druid teams we faced we beat with a strat that arose from frustration. We dont worry about taking out the voidwalker, I rush out and start frost shocking/purging the warrior. Then the Warlock comes out and starts putting pressure on the warrior. As soon as the druid appears we cc him with a rotation of fears/spell locks and I pop heroism and we both put everything we have into the warrior and he dies. Even if the druid uses his natures swiftness and I miss the purge we still keep putting damage into the warrior and it is too much for the druid to heal. Any thoughts if this will work as our rating gets higher and the druid/warrior teams get smarter? | |
| Apr 20, 2008 - 5:39 PM (HideShow) | |
| Can we get a strategy against shaman warrior? Right now it's the only comp that's really giving us a BIG problem and would like some feedback | |
| Apr 20, 2008 - 8:51 PM (HideShow) | |
| Treat it like a warrior/pally. Trade off interrupts/fears and kill totems, once you get a full length fear on the shaman, burst down the warrior. | |

| WTB a movie of this combo preferably from shaman PoV ~_~, me and my partner have been hovering around 2050-2150, which is a tad short of glad. Rogue/Priest has us dominated, we tried every strat posted and everything else we could think of. | |
| May 21, 2008 - 12:01 AM (HideShow) | |
| EDIT :: We have tried a few strats and we haven't prevailed against any great disc priest/rogues, but we have beaten alot of subpar teams that would usually take 20+ points off us by getting a few fakes off then fearing the rogue long enough to drain the priest for a few ticks and sometimes getting a drink off with LoS and Earth Shield on my lock makes the priest have to chose between dispelling the ES and letting me get a few seconds of drinking off, eventually we out mana them(poison cleansing/tremor under the bridge in BE can also gain a couple of seconds off to drink if timed right, assuming you have 2points in imp GW). | |

| this combo is so smooth to play against hunter / drood priest / mage and teams that mainly go for heal / dps i got 200 res with my shammy and playing with a 460 res lock we did 10 games just to see how it goes and we managed to beat 9 out of them playing with some insane combos like drood hunter drood warrior 0/20/41 works perfect for undergear people try it also a tip ... while your lock is fearing do not hesitate to dmg the unfeared target heroism open and u can do some good burst dmg by your self | |
| Jun 2, 2008 - 8:33 PM (HideShow) | |
| My current 2v2 partner is UA spec'd and we are just starting to get into running this comp (and having difficultly). What are some of the bigger difference between running UA-Resto and SL/SL-Resto that we can account for? Any help would be appreciated, since we are having issues even getting above 1600. Also, the whole Poison cleansing totem thing, with the GCD on Poison Cleansing now being only 1s, instead of 1.5s, you can drop poisons from your team even faster than spamming the single target. | |
| Jun 4, 2008 - 1:24 AM (HideShow) | |
| m8 imo u need a really skilled lock playing with lock u need to be slow with kills and staff cause u have no burst that means he needs to take care of u fearing using pet can help u alot try 0/20/41 to begin arenas tougnes will be so good for u :) | |
| Jun 8, 2008 - 9:36 PM (HideShow) | |
| serk your not gonna get anywhere if your lock is UA | |
| Jun 10, 2008 - 6:28 PM (HideShow) | |
| That is pretty much what I was thinking/worried about. It would basically require him to go back and forth between specs for raiding and arenas. Then again, he already has his epic flyer, so screw him. =) The survivability offered by the SL/SL will be a lot more helpful, especially against strong CC teams that make it hard for me to get a lot of casts off. Do you find it a good strategy for the Warlock to try to drain mana from healers, with the addition of mana drain protection with resilience? I'm sitting at 263 resilience atm, I should have around 310 in a couple weeks. Do I need a certani amount of resilience to succeed, or are specs and playing well more important in your opinion? | |
| Jun 11, 2008 - 1:24 AM (HideShow) | |
| You will need around 350res or so, cos most double dps teams will focus u. The lock HAS to be Sl/Sl or he will die so fast. Btw how much pve gear do you guys wear in this combo? When i ran it around 2k+ i only used neck, trinket and waist. | |
| Jun 11, 2008 - 1:26 AM (HideShow) | |
| gah this thing needs an edit button, your spec should be along the lines of 0/9/52. No need to spec toughness because most melee/healer will sit on ur lock. | |
| Jun 11, 2008 - 1:27 PM (HideShow) | |
| Yeah, I have a PvE/PvP spec going currently, and would probably spec more PvP centric as things get more serious. PvE gear I am currently wearing is my Weapon (Shard of the Virtuous), Shield (Crappy Heroic Drop), Rings, Neck, Cloak. The warlock pretty much has full pvp gear, sitting at 450 resilience. S2 Shield, S4 Neck, 8k Trinket are next on my list to get. @Memri: Are you saying that you got to 2k+ with the only pvp gear you were wearing was a neck/trinket/waist? | |
| Jun 11, 2008 - 1:55 PM (HideShow) | |
| No, i said that the only PVE gear i was wearing was neck/trinket/waist. But we once met a mirror match with the shaman using loads of pve gear, it had me wondering if its wise to use so much. | |
| Jun 11, 2008 - 3:09 PM (HideShow) | |
| Yeah, actually 1 game last week I forgot to put my pvp gear back on after I put a trinket'd Earth Shield on the Warlock and surprisingly enough, we won. I would be that using some pve pieces that have a lot of mp5 would be helpful for longjevity (lurker boots, etc). Then again, that whole fight, they were focused on the warlock, so that probably helped a fair amount. | |
| Jun 17, 2008 - 6:34 AM (HideShow) | |
| @serk, if they are focused on anyone but the warlock, shouldn't they be losing? a warlock is free to fear and drain and dot and control the fight so much when the DPS is being done to the shaman. the only exception is shadowpriest/rogue, where in either case you have a very tough time | |
| Dokodie | Jun 18, 2008 - 11:10 PM (HideShow) |
| we just recently started with this build, wer at 1650 atm, and climbing. I(warlock) am SL/SL and im rarely targeted for dps, usually only Doted or targeted by a rogue or so. Most of the games (50%+) my m8,the shaman is targeted, and im having a hard time killing the dps and fearing them because of LoS and disspells... so because of this im thinking of going UA spec with 11 talents in destruction(SB) which i think will give me a higher chance of beating dps/priest and at the same time giving ous a better chance on beating all games where they target the shaman first. but at the same time reducing our chances on DPSers who target me, as i got less survival rate. Im thinking of trying it out, seeing how usefull it will be and seeing how badly i get beat down and at the same time see how fast they will go down compaired to SL/SL any feedback will be appriciated. thnx (i got 410 ress and 12,5k health with sl/sl) | |

| Jun 24, 2008 - 3:15 PM (HideShow) | |
| So, I actually got to play some with my warlock spec'd SL/SL last night and it went a lot better than UA spec. One thing that I did notice last night was that running away tending to do bad things to me. It was my first reaction to getting a lot of focus fire on me and in doing so, caused us to lose the game since the warlock couldn't help in that situation. So, lesson learned. I'm ready for S4. | |
| Jun 28, 2008 - 1:23 AM (HideShow) | |
| Double DPS most probably go for shaman, in that case, it's all on the warlock's shoulders to keep both DPS CC'd by Fear, Howl of Terror, etc. DPriest Rogue and all those drain teams is basically on your shaman. While I played with Shalamy it was quite easy to realize how important his role was. He had to do so much shit during DPriest Rogue (heal me, los the priest from mana burns, purge, drop totems, shock, run away and drink, and more). Positioning in this match is vital. A good priest can catch you in a terrible position and he got half your mana burned and your lock with so much pressure that forces you to trinket a fear. Another thing I highly recommend for those PvE whores is VST. VST is like orgasmic against DPriest Rogue. Your pet will be on the priest so he'll get feared as your shammy, so no dispels :(. If you have VST I doubt your felhunter will get feared, so smash devour on the shammy and gg. He can trinket a sap if he feels like it =P. | |

| this combo is fun. harder combos for us are good rogue/priest teams, and when warriors wtfbbqpwns my pet infinite times with his fucking "Skillherald" until i run out of all my soul shards from resummoning lawl. you have to play very aggressivly in this combo imo. hunter/druid is hard if they know what they are doing too. anyone know how to make a autodevour on/off macro that can emote "on" and "off" in party chat or somthin, so i dont have to open my spellbook and click the pet tab to check it? just so i can focus on more important things :) | |

| Been runing the setup whole s3. went overkill last week though, and messed up rating. But anyway, wanted to say that I frapsed some fights and made a movie. Runing felguard / resto shaman. It's here on warcraftmovies, some people even like it! :p http://warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=81117 | |
