Shaman/Warrior

VS.

Druid/Hunter

Against this team you'll want to target either the Hunter or his pet (most often his pet though.) Killing the Hunter's pet should pretty much win you this game. Have your Shaman interrupting the Druid's Entangling Roots and Cyclone. If he cannot get them have your Warrior Intercept, Spell Reflect, Pummel, or Fear the Druid. You'll want to save your Grounding Totems for when the Hunter Scatter Shots your Warrior and drops a Freezing trap(If the Shaman is close you just have him go in and eat it.) If the Hunter is dropping Frost Trap, don't even worry about saving Grounding Totems for Freezing Traps. Purge the Druid's stacks of Lifebloom, Rejuvenation, Regrowth off of the pet. Have your Shaman keep bringing the pet out of the Druid's LoS. The Hunter will most likely pull the pet back so have your Shaman try to drink at this point if he can. Make sure your Warrior is stacking Sunders on the pet.

After you've killed the pet, and your Warrior is on the Hunter Bloodlust right away. Make sure the Hunter doesn't get away and summon another pet. If he does get another pet out, kill it again. The Hunter will probably be out of Mana at this point so make sure you keep him in combat so he doesn't drink. Ensure your Shaman keeps Water Shield up 100% of the time. Keep Poison Cleansing Totem down & cure the Viper Stings right away.

Hmm y would you want to kill a marksman hunter's pet? they pet gives you mana and doesn't do much damage at all... IMO I would stick on the hunter purge the druid hots and interupt/ground cyclones. make sure to clean off all viper stings on yoursself.

If you get the pet down, you are free to drink and play offensively. While the pet is on you, you are still taking a considerable amount of damage between the pet and the hunter.

Your warrior can easily be cc'ed since the Hunter will most likely be standing so he won't LOS his Druid. The Hunter has a lot more life and armor than his pet does and you'll go through a lot of mana and GCD's trying to keep him purged. All that while a pet is wailing on you isn't very fun. Our team hasn't found bursting down the pet terribly hard any more. In fact, this has gone from our hardest matchup to one of the easier ones by LOS bursting the pet and drinking when it retreats.

for the most part, at least in my experience, hunters use the scorpids and stack the scorpid poison which can sometimes block a cure for a viper sting, and its possible pushback that can be avoided easily

You have to switch between hunter and hunter pet. A good druid won't let you do much to either, but hopefully you can keep hamstrings on the hunter long enough so that your shaman buddy has infinite mana without taking many stings. Keep pressure on the hunter mostly until he runs low on mana, then nuke the pet. When nuking the pet the shaman has to come into line of site and silence all druid heals and purge heals aswell.

Once pet is down, focus on the druid. Shaman warrior excel in killing druids.

I was hoping I might be able to get some pointers for this combo from any very experienced shaman/warrior players. My druid and I normally don't have trouble with this setup but our first match in 2k the other day we got matched up with a crazy team, my druid was unable to cast anything and I couldn't do any considerable damage/draining to the shaman.

They would, like the guide says, wait for my scatter to drop Grounding Totem and we were unable to kill the totem all the time before the trap engaged.

If we tried to nuke the warrior, he would sword and board before he was cycloned...he of course had T6 stuff so was considerably hard to do enough damage to, to scare the shaman enough to come out and spam heal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm sure we will see more of this combo in our 2k adventures.

I find this a very relaxing match-up. Well, relatively relaxing for a potentially long and frustrating game. Sometimes I kill the pet, sometimes I kill the hunter and sometimes I kill the druid - maybe that's why everyone seems to have a different opinion.

Normally I try killing the hunter first because it will mean a nice and smooth sprint instead of a marathon, get some rnGG WF in and the druid won't be able to CC/heal enough with the shaman shocking his casts.

imo i think if we go for hunter per the druid wastes mana keeping the pet up
GunttJun 16, 2008 - 5:20 AM (HideShow)
this match gets a lot harder when they do irregular CC patterns [scatter as a peel by itself, feral charge into trap, misc bashes/traps].

also imp wing clip will be your bane if the hunter is a little jewish piece of shit

You like have to kill the pet because the most hunters have a Scorpid as a pet and they are going to stack up 5 poison thingies and then the hunter will put up Viper Sting and then your Shaman can't cleanse away the Viper Sting so it's really important to kill the pet.

Having a really hard time with 2200 type druid/hunters. We'll kill the pet draining a lot of the druids mana in the process. But then the druid and hunter will run to get drinks or resummon, It's not hard to get the shaman under control if he's using groundings for the traps. 1st cyclone shocked ----> Cyclone and then root the warrior then run, of course these teams have both been night elves and they get 50% of their mana back by the time we can catch them. Even when the warrior intercepts druid to stop the cyclone this allows hunter doing much damage on the warrior due to range with one nature's grasp. Also been seeing most hunters with improved revive pet which makes it easy to resummon with just one root/cyclone/trap on the two of us.

This is much of a rant, but I can't figure out how to beat most GOOD druid/hunters that don't screw up every 2 seconds of playing.

This comp has been frustrating for me. We've tried killing the pet early, but it always gets recalled and healed. Hunter/druid (and especially hunter/priest) do an incredible job of keeping my back to the wall, not really able to provide any support to my warrior. I spend 80% of our matches curing myself as I hide LoS. Meanwhile, my warrior is getting cc'd out the ass while taking damage along the way. Simply popping out to heal him is not effective enough. If both players are putting pressure on my warrior, he can take alot of damage. I'll use healing wave to keep him up, but it puts my mana really low, especially if the viper stings aren't coming off easily (scorpid stacking).

Earth shield is a complete waste of mana for us atm. Having two offensive dispels from the priest and hunter makes it a risk to reshield the warrior.

So if we cannot kill the pet early, then what? Do we just go hard a the hunter? How can I avoid the hunter to get to the druid for interruption?

A lot of hunter/druid teams are running restokins now, this makes them especially easy to gib as their healing is reduced and burst healing is reduced. The most important thing to remember is hunter/healer is the outlast comp. They will always outlast you. They have inevitability. Thus you do not want to play their game. Your damage is much higher, your burst is amazingly higher and with proper play you can disrupt them long enough to get a gib. What we have been doing is start on the pet and hammy the hunter and start building rage. As soon as the druid pops, we let the warrior eat 2 cyclones, then its an all out bum rush on the druid. The shaman should be dpsing as well, using full rank earth shocks to interrupt, heroism, chain lightning + ns lightning bolt.

At the end of season3 I've played warrior/shaman on 23xx. I think druid/hunter is nearly freeloot for a well playing shaman/warrior combo. Usually my warrior gets at the hunter and just damages him. Hunterpet will stick close to me and I just get LOS of the hunter, so that he can't drain my mana. the hunter can't do much dmg on my warrior and I just need to interrupt the druids' CCs and the hunters' trap. the warrior won't need much healing but when he does, just give him greater heal and get LOS again. spamming watershield will help you stay on nearly 100% mana and you can play as long as you need to get the hunter oom. when he's oom, you can play more offensive and make the druid heal his partner. so the druid can't drink and will get oom in a short time.
With this tactic you can win nearly every druid/hunter game. sometimes the games last 10 minutes or a little bit longer, but it's an easy win ;>

Lol? Fail?

Hunter doesn't ever have his Pet on me full time, only when I actually go to drink, Viper Sting sticks like glue and takes 400 mana of totem cleansing spam to get it off in the first place, Druid can CC the Warrior 100% of the time. The Druid sits out in the open with the Hunter, who waits for the Shaman to come out and stops a CC, the Hunter Viper Stings.. do this for 10-15 minutes and you've lost. This is not an easy combo but it's beatable.
EustachSep 2, 2008 - 3:55 AM (HideShow)
druid can't CC warrior 100% of the time, that's what you have shocks & grounding & spellreflect for, or, if it's a bad druid who tries to cast a full 1.5 seconds cyclone standing next to you (yeah there are those druids like on 1900 rating, because they mostly can get away with stuff like that), pummel/shieldbash (nice macro in the macro section for this, loving it).

We kill the pet, hamstring/DPS the hunter, shaman LoS as much as possible, if druids in intercept range and in caster form, quick switch to get him to panic (or with heavy WF luck, even kill him).

Ive noticed there is almost no way to get a vipersting off of you without 2-3 ticks of it going off...If you spam cleanse psn and drop the totem it has a chance to resist, inturn you might burn 2x as much mana trying to remove it...We kept losing to this team at around 1800...My warrior keeps insisting to attack the hunter, but really its not helping us any. My opinion was to keep a hamstring or a piercing howl up on the hunter and attack the druid forcing him to run himself oom. Keeping the hunters pet alive seems to be best for mana by just keeping water shield up. For some reason my warrior doesnt like to keep the hunter slowed so he just gets right to me kills all totems with his pet, viperstings me and keeps the slow trap down. We had the druid oom and somehow my warrior let him get away and shadowmeld drink which practically lost us the game... With a hunter not slowed down there is no way i can stay away from viperstings no matter what i do...Both losses to this team were in Nagrand arena.

Gotten better at running shaman/warrior and really this combo comes down to communication imo. The big trick I noticed is to make sure the warrior reflects/los/pummels/trinkets whatever if you can't grounding totem. I noticed that the shaman can generally keep most CC off but with the addition of scatter+freezing trap, that takes away your grounding. So druid will get CC off. Once they start the CC train it's hard to stop. Basically, you're not playing a mana war with the druid either, just with the hunter. Once hunter is oom that's when I go offensive and just blow up that hunter with hero/purges and full shocks on druid if mana permits.
