Shadow Priest/Rogue

VS.

Druid/Warlock

Overall difficulty: 5/10

When my Rogue and I first started playing this setup, we had a ton of trouble with this team and any other Healer/Warlock matchups. Unlike Warriors, SL Warlocks are incredibly formidable to DPS casters and will soak up a large amount of the Priest's DPS. This is where the Rogue's DPS gear really factors in, as he will be doing most of the damage to the Warlock. The Priest plays a support role here, mostly dispelling any buffs and debuffs off the Warlock, Rogue, and himself while keeping up his DoTs on the Warlock, and contributing burst when needed.

We are killing the Warlock here, a good Druid will easily be able to escape us with the help of a Warlock, so going for him is not an option. Our Rogue should open on the Warlock ASAP with Cheap Shot and then put up a 5pt Expose Armor. Your Priest should put up his DoTs and then begin stripping the Warlock of ALL his buffs (including trivial things like Underwater Breathing). Soon the Druid will pop out and the Priest should begin chasing and trying to Fear him while spamming dispels and keeping up DoTs on the Warlock. If the Druid is especially talented at keeping his distance, the Rogue can help out by popping Sprint to Gouge the Druid, then going back on the Warlock. However, I find that this isn't necessary most of the time since I am usually always able to get my Fears off at some time.

Once my Fear goes off, this is the time to pop all cooldowns and burn the Warlock as much as possible. If the Druid trinkets the Fear at any time, you can follow it with a Blind straight away, but it's usually better to save it for when the Warlock is low on HP. The point is to Fear the Druid over and over so he will eventually be forced to trinket. Then you'll have control of the game. You can choose to Blind whenever you want, so the Druid must keep the Warlock topped off constantly, which makes it much easier to CC him. If he screws up and lets the Warlock get low, Blind and Chain it with a Fear for the win.

Additional Notes:
  • A MAJORITY of the Priest's mana should be used on dispels between the Warlock, Rogue, and himself
  • Dispel Fel Armor, Innervate, Drains, and Roots. Dispel, dispel, dispel!

Do you think could work to play like against Druid/Hunter combo with the priest staying mounted to fear the druid when he pops?

Instead of staying mounted you should be stripping the lock full of all buffs while he is held in place. Also dispelling you rogue should he get dotted or feared. Point is no point in really staying mounted using this strat as in that time the lock will be stripped of buffs.

Jakarim is right. The reason I stay mounted against Druid/Hunter is because the hunter doesn't really have any key buffs that I need to get rid of, and dispelling the mark and thorns a little late doesn't hurt us much. Against a warlock who will be resisting a lot of your dispels, you need to be dispelling him as soon as the fight has commenced, or you will be too far behind on dispels to keep up with the druid's heals and the warlock's dots.

Early sap of warlock followed by immediate dispell until you get rid of all buffs.
Rogue should let you get 2 dispell and then attack.
Put dots, vampiric embrace, and then, dispell, dispell, dispell. Offensive and defensive ones. Spriest should always stay close to druid to get the winning fear or silence. Druid will always try to escape you, but he cannot escape too far or rogue would kill him, so chase him all fight.
Rogue should expose armor, and stun warlock as much as possible to cut dps down.
At the end of fight, Spriest may switch to normal form to put Prayer of Mending each time possible. This one should switch all times and give you some more time for another well timed fear or silence.
Warlock may die when you are both very low on life, so be reactive to heal most injured one as soon as warlock drop down or druid may finish you both

Good warlock/druids will do a few things that will make this matchup especially annoying. First of all, the warlock will keep exhaustion on the priest to make it that much harder to get a fear off. If by some chance the priest does get a successful fear off (gouge, etc), the warlock will be saving his devour for the moment it hits. We put VE on the druid for another magic debuff similiar to winter's chill to help with the devours (lol rng) but alot of the time it either hits fear or we don't have enough pressure to get the druid to trinket a fear (spellstone/healthstone/shadow ward). By the time we get the druid to trinket a fear so we can try a blind/sap/fear the game is usually over due to the sp's mana.

We're beginning to almost think that the only chance we have against good warlock/druids is to try to gib the druid (we're double UD) but alot of times that is a big risk. It just seems like devours on fears that would otherwise force a trinket are really killing us and we don't have the mana pool to keep up with it.

Any ideas?

Devour usually shouldn't be a huge problem. Because the felhunter should always be in melee range of the priest, a fear should hit both the pet and the druid. Although you should still have VE on the druid in case the pet resists the fear. Coex is a bitch, but you should still be able to get fears off on ruins and nagrand with proper movement.

Good locks will pull the pet away from the priest when he gets too close to the druid. It's not that hard to micro it properly, you can also tell your druid to get feared on purpose to be ready for a dispel. as long as the lock is topped off and full hotted the druid can get feared for the purpose of it being dispelled and not have to kite the priest. i.e. he can do more long casts and focus on CCs.

We fought this combo a few times last nite, against 2 different teams and we won each time. If the lock charges my Priest i either Shadowstep Sap, which works great if theyre mounted but may be risky against paranoid humans, or cheapshot if he manages to enter combat. If the lock doesn't charge, priest stays outta sight while I look for druid. The couple times I found the stealthed dru the fight was over pretty fast.
Alternatively, if i open on the lock i cheapshot gouge, or if the dru is still nowhere in sight i MIGHT kidney shot. If KS forces a trink this is prime time to blind or fear, if the druid is still outta sight ill just dig into lock. Basically as soon as dru appears we cc/dispel the lock, i sprint over to dru vanish CS KS (if i managed to save it), seems like of the 2v2 setups this team has more druid killing potential than most.

Forgot to say, this is basically the strat the Buddhist has in his guide

We fought druid/lock (I'm shadowstep) a few times last night around 2k. We are fairly new to the setup, but we rarely lose to druid warlock. We found the following strat works best: Open on the warlock with cs, shiv crippling, shiv mindnumbing, snd, vanish. At this point the priest has to nuke the warlock hard in order for the druid to pop out. When druid pops out, shadowstep, premed+cs, ks (while priest gets all the dots up on the druid). Silence straight after ks(assuming druid doesn't trinket it). From that point on the druid is always under pressure. Try fear the warlock to force a trinket (harder against UD locks). Devour magic isn't really a problem because of initial DPS on the warlock. When KS is ~4sec off being off cooldown, cloak+vanish+premed+cs+ks the druid (blind the lock at this point). If druid is out in the open during the stun(trinketing ks doesnt really make much difference), it usually means game. Priest should try fear the warlock as much as possible (a fear on both the druid and the warlock is also very helpful). Druids will generally run behind a pole after the first stunlock, making the warlock impossible to fear the rogue. Try LOS the warlock (you and the priest). We found 50% of the time there is a spot a rogue (and sometimes a priest) can stand in, where they can DPS the druid and LOS the lock at the same time. Pretty basic. Try save cd's like vanish, cloak, trinket for the second burst. Anyway this is mostly from a rogue's POV, and I hope it helps.

PS. Focus cast bar and focus kick macros come in very handy in this fight as the warlock often positions himself close to the druid.
