General Information

I found myself giving advice to a lot of people on a lot of very similar questions involving this set up, so I decided to spend a few hours and pour all my information into one long... thing. I got myself Gladiator in season 1 with this set up, and my current 2v2 is over 2300 as this set up. This is a very in depth look at Shadow Priest + Rogue 2v2, which should stay relevant through out s3, unless some unexpected change occurs.
Oh and I wrote this from the Rogue perspective for personal convenience... a Priest could just as easily read this, though.

Poison: Wound Main Hand, Crippling Off Hand. End of story.

I have included common high rated 2v2 match ups you will face. There are some unique ones, like Shaman+Warrior that I left out. You can pretty much adapt strategies from similar match ups (in this case, Druid+Warrior is very similar to Shaman+Warrior as far as you should be concerned) for these unique fights. If you want to see a specific match up that I missed, just ask, I'll add it.

Remember, this was all based upon personal arena experience. I don't care if you think my strats won't work, because, in practice, they do work. If you have suggestions to improve my strats, though, please suggest away.

Priest

Really it's up to personal preference. This is my priest's spec, and he has the imp mind blast because all 3 of our arena teams are full dps (even 5v5), meaning he just went for max dps.

Rogue

0/34/27 or 0/33/28
You'll always want nerves of steel over 4% AP. Resisting CC is much, much more important than doing a tiny bit more dps (keep in mind that 4% AP is not 4% more dps).

Gear

Priest

Your priest might want to gem partially for resilience and partially for spell damage depending on their current resilience. They will want about 400 resilience at a minimum. My shadow priest is very undergeared at 360ish resil and it hurts - trust me. Once you hit 400 resil you should be fine to go for more burst +Spell Damage. The Shadow Priest isn't going to die that fast unless there's a Rogue on the enemy team. The 32 Resil self-heal trinket can also be very nice. The new Spell Damage + Self Heal trinket is probably better though, unless you're really low on resilience.

The priest being in full arena gear with loads of resil while you're in full t6 with twin blades can be advantageous. Pretty much you can just let people go for your priest, then pop out and kill them.

Rogue

Wear a good dps trinket like Berserker's Call or Bloodlust Brooch, if you have one. Gem to maximize DPS. Personally, I'm gemmed for full AP. You'll also want to enchant almost entirely for DPS, definitely not stam. You'll want 15 resil on your chest though. It's simply the best chest enchant. As Shadow Priest + Rogue, double Mongoose is better than Executioner main hand Mongoose off hand. This is because you'll often target a high armor target, like a Warrior, where Executioner is least effective. Mongoose is 3% crit, 120 AP, some dodge, armor, and 3% haste. Don't underestimate 3% haste. Most of your dps is from white hits, so 3% haste is about as effective as 3% crit on high resil targets. Also, in case you were wondering, Executioner does not stack if it procs from both weapons like mongoose does. You're going to want at least 300 resil, which is impossible to not have in full arena gear.

The best thing to do, though, if you have PvE gear, is to wear it against new teams, and then switch to arena gear when you get the same teams again. That would be hugely advantageous. Most of us don't have full t6 or twin blades, though, so we have to settle for terribad arena gear.

Why wouldn't you spriest get 2/2 imp. mana burn?
OvdaJan 31, 2008 - 1:25 PM (HideShow)
It's not an outlast type of a team and games are won or lost really early in the game. The point of the spriest rogue team is that you are either ccing or dpsing. Rogue cc requires that no damage be done to the target and damage can make PS break early. Since you are rarely focusing the healer, mana burning doesn't really help.
TeirisiasFeb 2, 2008 - 12:35 AM (HideShow)
This guide is outdated. Hunter/Druid, a popular and strong combo in season 3, is not listed.
MelnorFeb 4, 2008 - 3:03 PM (HideShow)
Yea I'll agree that the guide is outdated. The recommended specs are for pre nerfed HARP builds.
XyúFeb 6, 2008 - 4:26 PM (HideShow)
hey there!
my mate and me (sp/combat mace rogue) reached 2050, but then met a team, we've never fight against: disci/warri.
We really don't know, how to beat them. it seems like it is impossible. u have any advice maybe or can add a guide to the others?
NoxnFeb 7, 2008 - 2:09 PM (HideShow)
Xyu --

Try you on the warrior, your rogue friend on the priest. But have your rogue friend focus entirely on cc'ing the priest and preventing him from healing (while you're dpsing the warrior). As soon as the priest trinkets a stun from the rogue, have him blind the priest and move back to the warrior. Then after the blind, you fear (since likely Sap would have a DR because of Gouge being used for CC earlier).

Sorry I blow at explaining. Short answer: you dps warrior, rogue cc's priest but doesn't necessarily DPS the priest (the dps is just a plus during stuns).

Anyway that's what we would do.
NoxnFeb 7, 2008 - 2:11 PM (HideShow)
No edit button, if the priest is undead, he'll WotF your fear so you can do sap after the blind, and hope the warrior is dead by then.
XyúFeb 8, 2008 - 9:52 AM (HideShow)
Okay thank you :)
We only played once against them, so didn't have enough time to figure out some good strats.

Btw: I'm waiting for the 3rd movie of you :}
TeirisiasFeb 9, 2008 - 2:12 AM (HideShow)
The unfortunate thing about that strategy (it's the strategy that we use as well), Noxn, is that priests usually have pretty high stun resist and the match can quickly go very badly with one resisted kidney shot. Also, some priests just won't trinket, no matter what you do, until you blind. So it can be an unreliable strategy... I hate how easily shadow priest/rogue can lose because of the RNG. =(
MaeverFeb 9, 2008 - 9:31 PM (HideShow)
Could anyone post a small Strategy for Druid/Hunter?
Its not that they are unbeatable for us, but it is always barely
Me and my mate cant really decide between going for the Hunter or the Druid.
If we go for the Druid, there are always disturbing traps. If we go for the Hunter, hes unreachable for cc and cyclones/stuns before the hunte goes down
Maybe I should stay mounted till the Druid appears an let my Rogue 1on1 the Hunter?Or maybe should i 1n1 the hunter?
Also if it takes to long im oom. Would appreciate any small advices

Hi, I play a troll priest and I have been struggling to stay alive against Healer/DPS team.
I was wondering if this is solely on the fact that I'm not Undead. Does Devouring Plague really make the difference between surviving a little bit longer and pulling off the win?

A majority of the top teams do consist of Undead priests and if racial abilities aren't the case, I'd like to know how to survive more efficiently.

Thanks

The guide is a little out dated, but I'm not the one who suggested speccing AR/Prep. The guide originally suggested being deep combat. ShS might be okay, but I doubt it considering that your SP will always be the target.
BuddhistFeb 13, 2008 - 7:01 AM (HideShow)
Oops, also forgot to mention that the priest should have imp mana burn, I'm not the one who made that priest build either.
VexxFeb 15, 2008 - 1:53 PM (HideShow)
i dont know if i'd agree with imp mana burn. i either win or lose the fight within the first 15 seconds
FauxyFeb 19, 2008 - 7:42 AM (HideShow)
For Hunter / Druid:

Have your rogue simply open up on the hunter while you stay mounted and out of LoS of the hunter. Getting viper stung shouldn't be a huge issue as the fight won't last long, but it's obviously best to avoid it anyway. Simply let your rogue 1v1 the hunter until the druid pops out, a marks hunter should be easily to lock down. As soon as the druid pops out (you should still be mounted), run over to him immediately and open up with a fear. Throw dots on the hunter, silence when he trinkets fear (if he doesn't, his partner is dead), and have your rogue sprint over and blind the druid while you finish off the hunter.

Marks hunters are very, very squishy. As long as you don't get hit by a frost trap before getting the first fear, this fight should easily be in your favor.
AnnihilusFeb 26, 2008 - 3:15 AM (HideShow)
Should ShadowPriest spec into Inner Fire for the armor bonus instead of Mental Agility. They just seem so squishy and that sounds like it would help.
NoxnFeb 28, 2008 - 11:05 PM (HideShow)
nope imp inner fire is bad
IdokickMar 2, 2008 - 7:25 PM (HideShow)
Imp mana burn is useless, since those fights are normally <1 min. Havent thought about what does the priest have to give up for mana burn, dont really care either. We're doin' fine w/o it :)
IdokickMar 2, 2008 - 7:43 PM (HideShow)
I'm a human tho, so fights are normally really fast :)

(where's the edit button!?)
KrozinMar 18, 2008 - 4:58 PM (HideShow)
Even after the nerf, do any rogues still do ar/prep? I did for a little bit in my rogue/rogue 2v2s and it was a bit better than two shs rogues. Now i'm with a sp, would it help for bursting down the first target?
IdokickMar 20, 2008 - 5:03 PM (HideShow)
Go HARP if u're with sp ;)
HayguyzMay 29, 2008 - 5:34 PM (HideShow)
As HARP spec human rogue, would I be equipping Shard of Contempt over Bloodlust Brooch?
FuriesJun 2, 2008 - 9:00 PM (HideShow)
Bloodlust over Shard imo
NikJun 3, 2008 - 11:02 AM (HideShow)
I recently teamed with a SP and we cant seem to get past 1600 rating. My priest dies fast since he is mainly PvE geared and we seem to go against a lot of UD teams so they just racial out of fear and insig out of blind.
Im ShS Spec i was thinking if HARP is better for this strategy.
Thanks
SmokéJun 10, 2008 - 9:06 AM (HideShow)
@Nik, it's the PvE gear.
Your clothie needs super high res/health to live through the rape
DarkleoJun 13, 2008 - 8:18 AM (HideShow)
Well Spriest/rogue with HARP could still be Viable just the only flaw is you can't burst down for the extra 15 seconds with Another Blade flurry/AR so pretty much for how much DPS you did with the Old HARP you just got to Double time it and do even more then that.
OmgheelerJul 9, 2008 - 4:05 AM (HideShow)
What people fail to understand is that Imp MF is pretty useless in 2s as a Spriest. 100% of the time you are getting focused, and I have learned I can't really waste time on a 2 second cast with others ready to stun/interrupt. If the other team is dumb enough not to focus the Spriest, then maybe. But in the higher ratings, it's pretty useless.
