General Information
This guide is built out from the hunter being survival.
General Information
Hi and welcome to the guide of Survival Hunter/Restoration Shaman. I'll try to keep it on a level of basic knowledge, and if you have any questions whatsoever do not hesitate to ask. I'll do my best to explain what we are doing against different setups, and what is needed for this setup to be successful. I do not believe we have copied anyone's tricks or tactics, as Brallanz I are both very new to the setup, however we are currently 2436 which puts us as rank 7 in EU-Misery BG.
I'll start off with going into details what the Shaman needs such as Gear/Glyphs/Spec, but please keep in mind this is not a "THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE" merely a guide to help people.

Builds
Shaman
I myself go with the 18/53 spec where I have such things as improved grounding totem, and improved water shield, even though with the nerf it is still very viable to me; it helps with keeping mana high therefore more pressure, and it adds crit when you stack mp5 from gear. I do not like using Mana Tide, as it a waste of 6 talent points, and if the other team has a clue it won't do much good.
With the new grounding totem and dispel change shamans are buffed, and I've taken Healing Grace as it helps against dispel teams to save mana and GCD.

Gear
Shaman
Crit vs. Mp5
I personally find mp5 better than crit in this setup, as you need to keep pressure on the opponent in order to win the mana war, if you go drink it should mostly be when the other team is really pressured, and cannot turn the tide of the battle. Crit is of course not a thing you should rule out, but just pick ringmail, and stick with some PvE weapons or something; I use myself the fist from Naxxramas which supplies crit, and then a shield with gives crit as well.
Hit
I sit at 92 hit rating, and 45 spell penetration even though I am a draenei with the racial which gives an extra 1% I still value not having hex or a shock resisted when it really matters. Also some classes have a higher chance to resist due to their racials, therefore it's needed.
Resilience
Most teams are not going for you, but trying to cc you while killing your hunter, therefore I sit around 800 resilience at the moment, and I have not experienced issues with this yet. You hunter can do a lot of things to keep them away if they are trying to really burst, and if you got a clue what you are doing =D I am using Living Ice Crystal instead of battle master trinket which is absolutely brilliant for this comp. It's off global cool down, by other means: You can dps and heal or whatever.
Glyphs
I'll only talk about the major glyphs as they are the ones with the biggest impact.
I find Flame Shock Glyph insanely valuable for this comp, as it actually saves a shock when it lasts for 18 seconds. This means you can Flame Shock if you wish to keep them in combat, out of stealth, burst purpose, and still fire off a wind shock on healer, and then use lava burst. I am also using Healing Wave Glyph as I said they are mostly going for the hunter, but healing yourself for 20% also helps staying around a decent health, if you are losing health to DoT's or diseases. The third and last one I am using is Lesser Healing Wave glyph, it heals for 20% more if you have earth shield on the person you are healing, and I believe it speaks for itself.
Some shamans are using the Lava Burst glyph as well, but this versus healing wave glyph is really a matter of choice, and play style.
These glyphs are what I am using, and personal find best but it's just a guideline.
I'll not dig much into this as Rice has already written a good sample of what is needed, and what is your own choice.
Here is a SS of my own setup to give you an idea of how it works.
I try to play with a very clean UI as I see no reason in having bars shown if you key bind them anyways.
If you dislike the default way of seeing nameplates you should go download the addon "Aloft" which gives a really good view of them, and having nameplates displayed is alpha omega in 2s/3s.

| Nice guide, you kept it quite simple understanding and summed it up good. Since I am not really that hype on either shaman or hunter, would you please tell me what is the main reason the crab is the dominating pet that is used in 2's? is it due to the "intervene" thingy it does? correct me if im mixing the crab up with another pet here. | |

| What about fucking rogue/shaman? it seems like an almost impossible combo even with freezing traps on the rogue. And what kind of hunter should i look for? i mean my hunter has been gladiator back S2 in 5v5 but it just seems he does not play defensive enough.. | |

| Im not much of a hardcore PvPer but I'd like to get into it. Ive considered this combo and have been just waiting for a strat on this thing :) I just have a couple questions. You said you like mp5 more than crit and i agree with this but i dont see why you go for the crit in talents over Mana tide? Also in 3.2 when they change toughness for stam will you be going for that? | |

| Ehm, Thx for answer stunning... They are quite in the 1850 rating, im in the 2100... was. 1. Tremor totem pulses are not enough for taking off that many fears /They dont even destroy it. 2. They kill anything, if i have earthshield, they go for my hunter, and before i can take off the fear, im already feared again, mostly they take me out of Tremor Range with deathcoil. If not, Spriest just destroy it. 3. Someone is dead within 30 seconds before fight start. Hunter says: I cant do nothing im feared all the way. I believe him, because i cant even heal. Maybe lucky riptide, but the warlock is doing 3800 dps on resilienced 900. 4. Shadowpriest doesnt do anything... only like 6-8k damage | |

| Keep the nerdrage & QQ coming =D Everyone knows hunters are insanely op atm, but still some people might actually need this for ideas etc, but trying to act pro instead of just ignore it makes you really sad :) At least some balance is coming to them in 3.1, but dk/sha will still be faceroll :( | |

| Blowi, I realize your hunter is anti-posting, but he runs a really interesting spec do you focus on draining healers, and dispel prevention. He runs without PONE and pretty heavy into stings. This seems like a very interesting strat, could you add how shaman side at least, you work with this. Despite the "ezmode OP comp" commentary, against the other OP comps (mostly DK pally) we still struggle to OOM/kill anything are you draining the pally or setting up a massive CC chain for a DK kill? | |

| How about writing up something for shaman/ret and priest/ret? These are two of the worst matchups for us because the ret paladin can cleanse your wyvern/viper and he absolutely shits on the hunter pet. Its also a nightmare trying to get freedoms off of a ret paladin with all of his magic buffs and dispel resist. | |

| Oh yeah, to the guy asking about drinking - you can't do as much as with a DK but you won't need to because of replenishment. When it comes down to it the hunter can do a lot to let you get drinks in with all of his CC and deterrance. | |

| How 'bout vs. Ret/RSham? Ret sits on me with undispellable freedom/heroism due to 28317 trash buffs, gotta tank him w/ ES on me p much. Once I'm dry (which happens very early on), he switches to my hunter and I can barely get an ES/Gift of the Naaru, maybe one or two LHW's on him. Just as soon as I do that, he gets back on me with me out of any sort of cooldowns and I get rocked. Suggestions? (CCing anything on this team is obviously quite rough unfortunately ;\) | |

| Your hunter should be peeling the Paladin off of you. Between your purges and his Tranq Shot getting a freedom off of him shouldn't take that long, and scatter buys you some time. Depending on your opponent's playstyle (offensive/defensive) your hunter should be able to put significant pressure out on the Shaman. You can't really afford to let the match start with the opposing Shaman using his mana offensively. Put them on their heels and keep them there. Totem stomping is helpful too. A hex can also buy you time as well at times. The few times we've faced Ret/RShaman I've started on the Shaman hard, lust, etc. Use viper stings when possible. Putting enough pressure to keep E Shield on the shaman is, like you said, mana-intensive. If the shaman is pillar humping to the point that the Paladin is mid-range health or in a vulnerable position, don't be afraid to force a bubble or force the shaman out to heal him. So in summary: Train shaman, communicate peels, abuse frost traps/earthbind, purge buffz. | |

| Ret pali teams are bad for this comp if they are good since they will always cleanse your vipers and wyverns. They do pretty nasty damage to the pet and can kill someone in a hammer so you have to be really careful. Its also almost impossible to purge freedoms off of ret palis. Generally we use our CC to pressure the ret in order to get the healer in a bad spot (and get the ret to freedom himself) and then we hard switch to the healer and go all out. Ret palis only have hammer and repentance to peel and they are both decently long CDs. As long as you watch and keep him from healing (and be fast with purging BoP) this works pretty well. Its still a hard comp since the good teams can avoid the switch. | |

| Sunning shut up ur just pissed cuz not every rogue is 2200 plus now, you had ur day in the sun (S4) its hunters turn :D As for some Advice, having trouble with hpally teams that pillar hump like crazy, my hunter cant get any CC off of them really, like there is no reason to have a 33 min game vs hpally dk, won tho | |

| Ceepee: You should be able to tank a retri pala much longer than the opposing shaman can tank your hunter partner. Just lure him out to your hunter and let him burst the pala down. If you have problems with tanking him, just walk to the trap and run to the closest pillar and kite. Just be aware of his CD on freedom. As soon as you see it coming, purge before he casts it so he has no buff at all before he casts it. | |

| I'm not a scrub, we're over 1930 now, 21-9 this week and I have a life outside of this game and don't spend 4 hours a day grinding rating with two overpowered classes. This comp does make me slightly emo though, I'll admit to that. You'd better figure out a strat though for 3.1 when you won't have your viper sting crutch to beat priest teams. | |

| Yes, and I most certainly do. You know I can't cleanse while CC'd, and hunters have a lot of CCs, and a lot of teams are smart enough to CC both of us at once so we can't dispel each other? In this thread http://www.arenajunkies.com/showthread.php?t=69444 there is a lot of discussion of this matchup, and the opinion over who has the upper hand is rather divided. I am sure that my priest and I will try to play more like 40-50 games a week until the end of the season rather than 10-15 games and I look forward to beating hunter/shaman soon - practice makes perfect. | |

| biggest face roll combo hunters have ever got to be in since arena started :) (mains a hunter). but its just ridiculas, i mean cmon, against 2k + teams i basically 1v2 some teams. the CC AND dmg output a hunter has atm is ludacris. only team i have trouble with is lock teams, but meh w/e everything else as said earlier F-F-F-FACE ROLL | |

Aight kid we were 2200 with no problems, then out of boredem because this game is terribad i grabbed a mage who is less than stellar, dropped and went up, then played with a random pally and dropped a bit more, and then back with the priest before stopping for the last few weeks. You think I give a shit about ratings? Was playing with a priest who got duelist and wears it ffs. Probably 1900 the last season, doesnt even pain suppression, but we still hit 2200 with ease I realize you think i'm stunning, which im not, but seriosuly you wrote a guide for this fucktard ezmode comp out of your own ego, nice. | |

| Nobody wants to hear the qq. Hunters have some balance issues, sure, but they are not without counters. An effective dk pulls twice as much damage as a hunter in 2s while having twice as much survivability. Face a good dk/pally team in dalaran sewers (or a good team with a healer in general) and you lose. There's absolutely nothing you can do to stop a team from resetting whenever they want in that arena. And if you're gonna qq about this comp, don't do it on a rogue. While rogues might not be the strongest class against hunters in general, mage/rogue is in fact a hard counter for this comp. | |

| This really isn't as much of a faceroll comp as people give it credit for. Much easier to lose as this than as Hunt/Pal. Mage/Rogue is near auto-loss, especially so on certain maps. | |
