Priest/Warlock

VS.

Priest/Rogue

Difficulty: 6

Some people consider this a hard counter to priest/warlock like Nangolol when I was watching him stream priest/warlock. But really it's not, it's just a long game. If the rogue gets on the priest, then the warlock is free to cast as much spells as he wants on the rogue. Like any other rogue teams, you just need to last until their out of cool downs before you can score a kill. Put the fel hunter on the rogue and just put up all dots. As the priest, you have to help your warlock kill the rogue with your dots and dispels on the rogue. Even if you don't fake cast, the rogue shouldn't be able to kill you. Just Shield before penance cast, and you'll have like a 1.5 second penance that heal you for about 5.5k with Ms up. Try to avoid casting PoM because it's not very mana efficient as it'll only bounce once if their just focusing one target. When their rogue already cloaked and trinketed and their priest trinketed. Watch the DR tracker, have full dots on the rogue before fearing then get a gib on the priest. Don't dot both targets because you're trying to kill the rogue while the priest is feared. If you dot the priest, you spread PoM and lowers the fear time. If their priest is in LoS, you can mana burn and make the rogue interrupt that and then heal and vice versa. Your warlock should be able to control the priest just fine with the rogue not on him. When you are setting up the kill and the rogue switches to the warlock, which he will if he wants to live. Don't help your warlock kill him unless you know you can kill the rogue 100% sure. Or if your mana is like over 70% or shadow fiend is up. Always try to be mana efficient. The best thing to do would be to go drink while your warlock is controlling both players. Repeat the this until you actually score a kill on the rogue.

If they go for the warlock it calls for a different strategy. The pet will sit on the rogue, devour will be off. Devour the fears their priest does on you. Or devour if the pet is low and you drink, just devour a trash buff. As the priest you should dispel their buffs in the beginning anyway. This makes this exceptionally easy for you as their fears on you will be dispelled. The pet is on the rogue for a reason, so it won't get hit by a AoE fear. When you fear their priest, holy fire the rogue and try to apply as much pressure as possible. Your warlock should tank the rogue fine after his initial burst. Remember, their priest will be dispelling your buffs on your warlock. So penance to get 3 applications of Grace before Shield->Renew and such. Fake casting is exceptionally important while the rogue is on the warlock. You need to fake cast to get any good casts off. Send the pet on their priest whenever you want to drink to make sure their priest doesn't drink. Shadowflame Glyph becomes important here. Shadowflame>Teleport and try to get as many casts off as possible and kite. Shadowflame is undispellable so it makes it hard for the rogue to get back on the warlock. If their priest decides to sit by a teleport and fear when that happens, cool you can go somewhere far and drink while their rogue is being kited and your partner is feared. Over a period of time, they should wear down mostly due to the mana privileges that their priest doesn't get for you having a pet.

If they sap the warlock all you have to do is spell lock the first mana burn. With proper spacing and a spell lock, the warlock should be out of sap before the priest eats any mana burns.

No mention of Coex kite? vs priest rogue the rogue can hardly touch you with good coex kite what makes glyph of shadowflame useless
SclerosisMay 26, 2009 - 7:14 AM (HideShow)
Coex then teleport kite + fear and own the priest. Back in BC this WAS a hard fight but now its really easy.

I play this as a dot all drain priest strat and only a few teams have given us any trouble at all. Pet on priest spelllock on mana burns only at the beginning.

I cant see this defensive strat working against some of the turtle teams that we have been playing lately. Fakecasting a fear is all well and good except when he saves kidneyshots for spells and gouges you. The rogue can reduce damage taken to very little by using a cloak into kidney into gouge combo (every dot will fall off). During this time the priest can be doing all kinds of nasty things or simply drinking to full. In these situations i find that dots on everyone and pet on priest is superior.

If the priest wants to start jumping pom he will have to go into the open and will eat mana burns AOE fears and well more dots.

if they turtle up ur gonna lose, very simple. getting a gib is unlikely unless they mess up. nuking the Rouge is > than nuking the priest, becuz once his "Oh $hit" button is down its like free hunting season come early. if they're good, they'll interupt UA and Fear alone, if they sux, which is unlikely, the rogue will go defensive from 40%, and turtle up from once the priest is at 30%. sending the pet will get it killed, running in will get u sapped and having ur partner openned on. it's a dilemma imo depends a lot on the arena ur playing in, cuz valor = win drain game, while blade's edge = nightmare.

i find the key is always patience. I dont want this to be a quick match, if they open on my priest and try and hard burn him it will be a very quick match even if i win but the odds are the rogue will make the kill. I want the rogue on me so i run in at the priest with my pet on attack to make me sap immune. 80% of the time if they were going for a priest burn strat the rogue will try and sap me and instead get pulled out of stealth by my dots. Once they figure this out they will tend to simply open on the priest which puts me in a good position between rogue and his healer. My priest tanks the rogue for a bit calling out when he needs help while i lay fears and drains into the priest. Usually the rogue will chicken out and turn back to me once his priest is reduced to 30% mana in about 30 seconds.

Once the rogue is on you or simply opened on you it becomes almost like 2 1v1 matches, you vs rogue and priest vs priest. Having a really good priest will make this a win for you. Work your way through the rogues cooldowns by teleporting as much as possible and fakecasting like a madman. Once prep and sprint are used you are in a good position and the opposing priest should have very little mana left due to CoT during mana burn standoffs, spelllock on mana burns, and the inability to drink due to pet.

Have your priest call out fears a few seconds early so you can pull your pet back and get the dispel, mine is undead so its not a huge deal either way.

And ALWAYS drop what you are doing and CC the shadowfiend!! It is worth deathcoiling if its your only option. AOE fear it then put up UA to prevent dispel and CoEx to prevent is coming back quick.

If you portal kite too hard the rogue will simply go after your pet and attempt to get resets so be careful, this is when the match can turn in their favor especially if fel dom is already used.

i reccomend watching Maddlexi's video. first game is vs priest/rogue and they play it insanely perfectly, total game time less than 4 minutes and they pulled off a drain win. gief me Suggles, and i gief u pvp videos! inspirational effort from the priest, and again played perfectly and they barely won. always a decent fast-paced game but dont expect to win easy. wont happen at all if they go defensive.

also some ppl might not consider it, but use CoElements if ur even 2 points below penetration cap. having ur priest's fear getting resisted is gamebreaker
NightprinceJun 2, 2009 - 1:59 PM (HideShow)
^^ made typo. the curse of elements isnt for u. its for ur priest. mana burns getting reisted are the insane game breakers. coe spam rogue no need for elements on him.

kid sucks
NightprinceJun 27, 2009 - 6:58 PM (HideShow)
yeah idd his new movie isnt exactly top notch, tested a looooooot of games vs priest/rogue and cant pull it off no matter what i try. 90% of the time both undead, 90% of the time we lose. not undead = hallaluja. @ Teddygrahams he makes a lot of mistakes, but the fact remains they they're not 2550ish off rng :D also if the rogue is going for ur priest, theres 2 ways to react. either fear the rogue, ur healer heals himself, and takes 2 mana burns in the process, or fear the enemy healer, save ur healer from burns but risk letting him die. it depends on ur priest. if he needs help asap, then fear the rogue, live to die another day, which will prob happen anyways, but if he's cool, then cc the priest. the rogue will eventually realize that u can triple the pressure that he can do, and will most likely switch back to you. so if he goes for ur priest, analyze the situation before u react, or else u might end up losing due to manaburns, or due to a kill on the spot.

shadowflame is dispellable actually :/
YakarueJul 2, 2009 - 12:21 AM (HideShow)
No, you can't dispell it, but things like trinket and the gnome racial will get you out of it. Though, I think I have noticed it glitch once or twice and get dispelled, but it is not a magic/dispellable effect.
WendromJul 3, 2009 - 9:07 AM (HideShow)
teams with rogues.... RUSH to get in combat to u don't get sapped, force the rogue to use trinket and CD and the priest must be far from the other priest to do not get manaburn. The priest can try to save he's power infusion to something very funny that my team usually do, after the rogue used everything the priest uses MC, if my priest has power infusion, we both rush the priest, he uses on himself and mana burn while i use drain mana, in 5 seconds i took 15% of the priest mana plus the mana burn so the priest is out of mana and then the win is urs

ofc that to get is this part... it will take a bit of time
TestgubbelólJul 12, 2009 - 12:09 PM (HideShow)
In my team we sit on the lock and kick fears and UA. And that lock isn't putting out much dmg from that position so i start to burn that priest and that's game.
GlupoJul 17, 2009 - 6:43 AM (HideShow)
as rogue/priest im just doing 1 thing, sit on the lock.. put as much pressure as possible, so that means Expose armor and SnD even... just keep on interrupting fears and UA's... knowning that the lock fake casts and its a fast cast this will be hard :)

When the lock gets abit of pressure and drops some hp, i swap to the pet... just down the pet hard

priest will have to heal.. if he does.. catch the pet in a kidney shot... then let your priest fear the other priest.. so there isnt a devour.. kick the warlock with his health funnel dmg reduction thingy or w.e it is.. and if you time this abit with the help of your priest you should be able to down the pet.. just repeat this and it will be harder for them :P

healing the pet up is costing alot of mana for the priest and ye.. i see this as the only option because good geared warlocks and skilled, teleport away curse of exhaustion up and kite you to fuck while the dots are raping you...and as absolutley mentioned above ... they dont go for dots on the priest.. so ye POM wich owns normally in these kinda fights is useless

( checking out these comps to find a leak in the setup lol :P ) for my own benefit ofc
