Priest/Warrior

VS.

Shaman/Warrior

We approach this in a way quite similar to Paladin/Warrior, with the added duties of making sure Tremor/Windfury totems are never down for more than seconds. Kill those totems quickly, keep Earthshield dispelled. And Fear/Mana burn the Shaman when possible. Watch for burst opportunities on the Warrior.

You're doing it wrong. If you do this, you will loose 9/10 matches.
What you have to do is to, start on shaman, make the priest keep the warrior on the opposite side from shaman all time. Dotting him up. When warr is at about 30-40%, fear the shaman. Sure, he might trinket, but then priest will fear him instantly when he moves to him. Just intercept him, and gib him.

You're right, that does sound amazingly better. Why I didn't think of it in the first place is beyond me. My hat is off to you sir.

I'm glad that I can help. Having my priest was a huge improvement, we reached 2.2k with that spec.

true its the only way that it can work .. but have you faced a warrior shammy team rushing you big time ? thats what i normally do as warrior shammy .. wins it everytime even though we are heavily outgeared (my shammy havent got a single vengefull and not even full S1) and we kill 5/5 S3 priests in 20 secs .. purge rapes them

Here's a video of this strat in action...granted it's only in mid 1600s bracket but you get the idea

I've read the counter on the Shaman/Warrior and the strategy that most warrior/shaman appear to push is the "double rush the priest" strat. What does a priest/warrior do in response? I understand that if you can split them, you'll be fine, but my experience is that they will do whatever possible not to split up.

My partner and I started running into tougher Shaman/Warrior teams. Against easy teams you can easily kill the shaman's tremor/windfury/mana tide totems when they go up due to bad placement. As you do that you just try to get his warrior out of site and DPS him down. If you can't kill him the shaman runs out of mana soon anyways due to the inefficiency of their spells. Just never hit the shaman.. water shield = he gets 2000 or so mana back in a few hits.

Good shaman/warrior teams put extremely heavy pressure on the priest like noted above. During the beginning of the match they open on your warrior because you should be hiding. But once he needs your heals (can't use renew or shield on him because of purge) you are the new target. At this point the shaman is going to keep you in LoS and the warrior will be stuck to you. We went 3-8 last night against a 2200+ ranked orc warrior/tauren sham combo that raped us after they got used to our odd combination.

Once I was forced out to heal my warrior they were on me like glue. We couldn't get any lucky mace stuns off on the orc warrior, and the shaman was keeping me in LoS to shock and heals i would try to cast. Bastard even ran in to warstomp me at pivotal moments. My warrior would run back to try intercepting the warrior to get him off but RNG usually favored the orc and he would still be on me. Windfury and sometimes even bloodlust were left up on him because of how far behind i was on healing myself due to the constant spell interrupts putting me close to execute range.

Against better teams, I believe it might be better to rage starve the warrior and try to double DPS down the shaman. At least that way you might be able to cast some heals on yourself since you won't be getting shocked as much, and kill the totems more easily.

Thanks for the tips AD, I like your idea at the end- to rage starve the warrior and double rush the shaman. My thoughts are maybe to try to hold off using PW:Shield at first until you get the shaman down a little and get him into "omg chain heal myself" mode, then he has less chance to waste GCD's on purge. I'll give it a try!

Priest/rogue is exactly like priest/rogue, except easier. Against good shaman/warriors, your priest will die, and there's nothing you can do about it. If your priest somehow manages to get away from the warrior, your warrior will get raped + spam purged and you will be shocked. Good luck heal/drink exploiting.

EDIT: Priest/warrior is exactly like priest/rogue*

How will you keep a good Warrior rage starved with windfury? How will your Warrior not be rage starved from the shaman's insane armor?

Im a complete noob to Shaman Warrior but that bit seems a bit unlogic to me.

I dont know if its just because me and my warrior are facing warriors with s4 weapons while he only has s2, but trying to kill the warrior does not work. We dont pressure the shaman enough so he can just keep coming to his warrior in ghost wolf.

I swear, everytime we're about to hit 2k we get farmed down by shaman warrior >_>

shaman/warrior is the counter to priest/warrior. shaman/warrior will spam purge priest while raping priest with WF and there really is no affective way your warrior can peel there warrior for more than 4 seconds
DevlabSep 21, 2008 - 4:07 AM (HideShow)
All you have to do as priest/warrior is stick to their warrior like glue, kill totems, and just out mana the shaman. He's going to go oom a lot faster than your priest will, and if the priest is good at pillar humping he can prevent purges fairly well.
