Priest/Rogue

VS.

Shaman/Warrior

This Can be a difficult match. The Warrior will most likely be Focusing the Priest while the Shaman spam Purges the Priest's HoTs as well. Do not allow this to happen! The Rogue must do his best to keep the Warrior CCed. The Priest should wand totems so he cannot get Intercepted and if he does, drag the Warrior out of LOS then stun him. Fear the Shaman whenever Tremor is dead and try to Mana Burn him as best as you can. Get rid of as many Totems as you can. When Heroism comes up Dispel it.

Always keep yourself topped off because a Warrior can do a lot of damage with Windfury and 100 Rage. Do your best to run the Warrior out of LOS of the Shaman and Fear the Shaman and Mana Burn.

I had a lot of problems with mage/hunter. so much cc... any ideas?
PingisprestApr 13, 2008 - 10:31 PM (HideShow)
We tried this tactic, but between the deadzones the rogue has they will kick my ass (priest)

We tried, rogue nukes / controls the shaman, and me the priest take down the warrior as far as i can, then a fast cc on the shaman and get the warrior down.
Maybe many priests dont use reflective shield, then it might be abit harder.
But since we changed to that tactic we won most of the games. If the rogue just controls the shaman so he cant heal the warrior / himself he will panic and have a hard time. Intervenes and disarms happens, but when he do that, youre free to burn the shaman.
MicksterApr 18, 2008 - 4:37 PM (HideShow)
Yeah i've tried that strategy as well and it works, free mana burns on the shaman is always nice and a priest can take a warrior but be sure to bring him LOS of the shaman so the shaman can't purge your shield\renew\pom.
MicksterApr 24, 2008 - 10:34 PM (HideShow)
Also mana burning the shaman makes the warrior blow pummel on it so you should be free to top yourself off if you LOS the earthshock.
JullommirMay 5, 2008 - 2:50 PM (HideShow)
Coming from the warrior point of view, every time the rogue is on my shaman, we win. However, when the rogue sticks to me and keeps crippling poison up, we lose. The priest and the rogue can do enough CC on my shaman to be able to gib me down.
RejuvenMay 7, 2008 - 4:45 PM (HideShow)
Mana burn, getting rid of that earth shield, are 2 very important strats.
GarfunkelMay 15, 2008 - 10:26 PM (HideShow)
the warrior/shamans strat in this is gonna be to spam purge the priest and rape his ass with windfury, this is how i counter this, instead i go after the shaman and spam purge HIM, dispell his ES every single time, ride his ass with the rogue on him knock down every single totem you see, fear when kidney shot is down, then have your rogue pull out a vanish/CS/KS combo and finish off the shaman, put a sw:D on him to get him below 33% so that your rogue can do more damage on him, "if he's shs that is" save pain supression and PI for the death wish/windfury/bloodlust combo, keep yourself topped off so that u dont have to use it before that. also be sure to smite the shaman a few times and help your rogue with dps on him, also i found another way to do this is to stay on the warrior and los him and mana burn the shaman while getting drinks in, however a sword warrior with 100 rage can and will rape your priest in seconds, all in all killing the shaman is the easiest way but if u dont spike them fast enough the warrior will have 5 sunders on your priest+windfury+bloodlust+sword proc+deathwish and your priest will drop so fast he wont know what happened, the fear/vanish/CS/KS when the shaman is below 50% is what wins it.
DranathMay 27, 2008 - 6:12 PM (HideShow)
DPS/Stunlock the warrior.
Destroy tremor and quickly fear shaman making him blow trinket.
Blind/sap/fear, kill warrior.

I'm sick of hearing about the
"Cripling 70%
Hamstring 50%, just flee, lulz0r"
... 9 out of 10 warrior have Mace, and they rather often proc Imp. Hamstring...

Furthermore, a priest has to stop to cast Flash Heal or something, enabling the warrior to catch in on you.

Thirdly, cripling poison is removable. (i'm an UD priest, Dwarves actually stand a chance).

In other words: You can't flee from the warrior.
ButtnuggetJun 3, 2008 - 8:20 PM (HideShow)
Crippling 70%, Hamstring 50%. You can walk out of Hamstring completely unharmed, end of story.

Improved Hamstring is just an urban legend, it doesn't proc, and neither does my mace. I don't care how many random factors you can come up with, if you keep yourself on high enough health in the beginning there's no way a warrior can chew through your hit points before you've managed to waddle to safety.

I'm going to have to go with Jullommir here; have only lost due to brainfarts and RNG when rogues are on my shaman and never win the ones who keep the rogue on me (warrior) throughout the game. Improve your positioning if you have problems executing this. I've also won the average 2k-shouldered shaman/warrior teams on an alt priest/rogue with a white level 14 off-hand and some item slots completely empty. It's just THAT easy.
ButtnuggetJun 3, 2008 - 8:46 PM (HideShow)
Just to dumbify this to you, main points in my not-so-humble opinion:

- Warrior with a 2h vs. rogue in toe-to-toe combat will take about 5 times more damage than what he deals to the rogue. On top of that you have a DoT and reflective shield. I'm guessing it's a pretty good idea to keep the warrior stunned as much as possible while he's in berserker stance with a 2-hander.
- The shaman's heals are stationary: He has to be in line of sight with the warrior, revealing his tiny wiener to mana burns. The warrior will be going down very fast while the rogue is taking barely any damage evasions up - this means the shaman is forced to spam heal the warrior and can't go chasing the priest around and/or spam purge on anyone. At this point the priest can watch TV while throwing around some of those priest spells because the shaman is doing a pretty good job OOMing himself.
- Should the warrior go defensive with 1h/shield, he sure as poop isn't dealing any damage to the rogue. At this point the priest can go take a dump or something and come back just in time to mana burn the shaman if the rogue didn't kill them both already.

My _personal_ answer to the rogues keeping me in a leash is to pray for lucky non-dodged WF crits with MS debuff on so they'll blow an evasion or two, after which we'll immediately go defensive, 1h/shield, intervene to safety or die trying, and hope for the best while trying to avoid LoS with the priest for long enough. After that it's pretty much a fight with no cooldown skills left for priest/rogue and shaman/warrior on low health and out of mana, you should still stand a fairly good chance even if they manage to pull off something like this.
HasurisJun 14, 2008 - 5:52 AM (HideShow)
skill silence and go for the shaman. dispell his ghostwolf ASAP, fear whenever possible, do as much dmg as you can (both of you) and if he goes near 30% silence him

if you play it right and got the warri LOS so your rogue doesn't get intercepted, the shaman should be down in a matter of seconds.

piece of cake
HasurisJun 15, 2008 - 6:18 AM (HideShow)
hmpf, forget about that, somehow yesterday we killed 3 different teams again and again but we cannot overcome today any of those.
GunttJun 16, 2008 - 7:21 AM (HideShow)
Like it's been said, with the Rogue on the Shaman we win about 95% of the time. It really doesn't matter because he'll have to Purge shield off 2, maybe 3 times between Weakened Soul and Pain Sup is not enough to stop a WF/Bloodlust/Death Wish warrior. If you want to spam dispel with a 30% resist rate while we Purge and burst you down, be my guest. Casted heals get pummeled, renews get purged. You have a 20 second window really to survive if the Rogue is on the Shaman and you probably won't live.

If the Rogue focuses the Warrior, the Priest gets away- lands fears and mana burns, drinks. When they play like this, Shaman/War run out of mana via healing more than burns, and with Cheat Death and other cooldowns your Rogue is pretty well off. Manage your mana and you'll do fine.

The fact of the matter is win or lose, the Shaman goes oom very quickly. Whether it's purge spamming you or trying to heal thru 5 Wounds on his Warrior.

We've only played a few games so far as Priest/Rogue, and what we were doing was waiting for the Warrior to (hopefully) switch to Battle Stance so we can land a sap. If this happens, it's gg. He'll either trinket it, and face a blind+vanish sap whilst the Priest's mana burning the Shaman, or he'll be feared at the end of the sap, and then blind+vanish sap. If not, Crippling the Warrior as much as possible (Vile Poisons helps a lot here), whilst the Rogue was on the Shaman, stopping at least 80% of the heals. Hopefully, the Priest should be able to get a little bit of room to try to Mana Burn the Shaman, remember, DESTROY WINDFURY AT ALL TIMES.

If the Warrior was to go on the Rogue, I can only guess that the fight would be a lot easier. Rogue should be able to avoid most of his damage with Evasion + Ghostly Strike, leaving the Priest free to heal, burn and fear.

Hard fight, but not impossible. Good luck :)

For this combo, the Shaman has an equal chance of being any spec, be it Elemental, Enhance, or Resto. You should have a separate guide for each because "Shaman" is too generic. The strategy is quite different for each.

For Elemental Shamans, it's important to keep them from casting anything or they will rape your Priest. Mana Burn only when they go to heal the Warrior as any other time they will be shocking the crap out of you.

For Enhance you gotta worry about Windfury as well as Imp Ghost Wolf. They have crap for mana of the three specs so just Mana Burn them a few times so they can't heal.

Resto Shamans you must keep them in LoS and Mana Burn whenever possible. You don't need to worry about Elemental leaving LoS because they are looking to tear you to pieces at all times. Mana Burn is most important here. This is pretty much the only fight where LoS is a major issue.

In general don't attack the Shaman first, go for the Warrior but especially in the case of Elemental keep the Shaman CC'd and in the case of Resto keep burning their mana.

// Always keep yourself topped off because a Warrior can do a lot of damage with Windfury and 100 Rage. //

From my experience its not "a lot of damage" its a dead priest right there. So we avoid going for warrior at all costs and just nuke the shaman. No purges, no warrior with toped rage and warrior usually goes for me at this point so we either burn shaman or just burst him, usually he doesnt cast anything but instant during the whole fight considering amount of interrupts that we can unload.

2 Guntt

The pressure on the shaman that priest+rogue are creating via mind blast/smite/swd will make him trinket kidney shot and use instant heal. At this point he wont be purging, he will be surviving and trying to pull some heal of. WF totem will be destroyed by priest asap and its actually easier to destroy it when shaman is running away because you always see them as he runs. Heroism usually never lasts more then 2 seconds vs any decent priest. At this point you will have no rage hitting priest through his shields and if you dont switch to rogue you will loose it right there.

Smacking warrior may work too but seems like in s4 warriors have just too much hp which is incredibly hard to burst. Whats the point to feed you with rage while you resist every 3rd stun i rly cant keep you from priest and along with purges and 100 rage he will go down in no time rly.

When i meet this combo with Priest/rogue. my rogue allways pressures the warrior. and keeps him away from me, since i recently dinged 70 i have hard time to survive warriors with my 350 resilience, anyway what we do is that i run and destroy the shamans totems. especially tremor. Then i just fear him. Rogue make sure he stays alive with Evasion and renew + pom. if the shaman pops trinket while in fear, We blind + sap him and then i pop power infusion and start nuking the warrior with smite ( i have spent 2/2 talents in improved smite = 10% more damage) usualy under that time the warrior dies because of to much pressure if he doesnt. i can Either mind controll the shaman, or my fear is back on cooldown. We will most likely succed with this tactic and we won alot of games against shaman / warrior this way.

warr goes up to priest hey ima warrior i can kill u in 1 shot bam haha ez game. if i go out of los he goes wait a sec i can kill a rogue after evasion which is 15 seconds! sweeeeeet. any tips?
------Aug 3, 2008 - 5:51 PM (HideShow)
not if ur rogue is skilled and can keep the warrior away. might be easier as dwarf priest with chastise though.
DanielsnagSep 8, 2008 - 9:37 PM (HideShow)
Warr/Shaman wins this fight by default if they are worth a dam. If priest tries to take warrior away he will just start on rogue or turtle mode so shammy can top his mana off again. Only way to win is to have rogue on warrior ENTIRE match and even then they have a higher chance to win.
