General Information

General tips for the Priest:
  • Heal early and often.
  • Don't spam Mana burn until you're at 20%.
  • Rage-fed Warriors are capable of soloing you. Standing in place and tanking them for the 15 second downtime on Kidney Shot will get you killed - run away and take advantage of Crippling Poison.
  • Use max resilience gear and Battle Masters.
General tips for the Rogue:
  • Don't focus too much on peeling vs Healer/DPS teams. If you get someone into a Kidney Shot -> Gouge -> Blind chain while you do 0 damage and their healer drinks to full you have accomplished nothing.
  • Focus macro the Druid and press Cloak of Shadows and Vanish on his Cyclones
  • Use 4 piece Tier 6 set bonus, if you have it. Use no other PVE gear unless you are Shadow Step.
Overall Priest/Rogue is a tough composition to run. Druid/Warrior, Shaman/Warrior and Druid/Hunter teams are going to be your most challenging matchups.

Most of the matchups are brief. I only went in depth on the important matchups. The rest are pretty simple and easy to work out.

Builds

Priest

Spec for both Reflective Shield and Silent Resolve. Spec for Greater Heal - You will need it.

Rogue

Spec Combat or Mutilate. Shadow Step can work, but you don't put out enough pressure to be able to consistently beat the one matchup you really need to (explained later).

hrm... your strats are completely different than what me and Malacoth did to get to top priest/rogue in bg6.
FactionzMay 5, 2008 - 7:07 PM (HideShow)
thats funny because i was the top priest/rogue in shadowburn

were you trying to invalidate my opinions by simply stating "arena ratings lulz?"

my strategies are for once based around fighting teams with a clue. when you use your scrub farming strategies against good teams you lose.
BrohanMay 5, 2008 - 7:12 PM (HideShow)

MicksterMay 5, 2008 - 10:04 PM (HideShow)
btw thanks for the strat, gives me new ideas to my own to add to my arsenal in case we face a team that we can't beat with my strats.
BrohanMay 5, 2008 - 10:25 PM (HideShow)
lols i xfer'd to some server like an hour before i saw your message, 15 more days :(
FactionzMay 6, 2008 - 12:30 AM (HideShow)
no i'm pointing something out

see when you use your regular "stick warr spam dispel manaburn druid" against the top warr/druid in your bg and you get dominated?

then you use the same strat against mediocre teams, and do well against them but still drop games?

you don't drop games with this strat if you do it correctly :]
FactionzMay 6, 2008 - 2:26 AM (HideShow)
i can't edit posts here, but I obviously meant you will farm the mediocre teams you'd usually go like 70/30 with, not beat the top teams. the top warr/druids are still next to impossible.

How important do you think Silent Resolve is? I've been rolling without it for a few weeks now and doing pretty well, but obviously it makes games against Shaman a little more annoying sometimes. However, your instant spells (half of what you cast) cost 8% more than me... I'm too lazy to run numbers, but that seems pretty significant. Is it just preference or do you think it's crucial?
RevengeMay 6, 2008 - 2:55 PM (HideShow)
Heyy Factionz do you suggest that the rogue be mutilate or combat over SHS? if so would 0.31.30 work better than 20.41.0 combat because, 0.31.30 does have more survivablity and better stealth also better CD on blind :) . Looking forward to your reply thanks :)
SommeilMay 6, 2008 - 3:48 PM (HideShow)
I think you're saying two different things here. You should be speccing to kill druid/warrior teams because they're so prevalent but also spec into silent resolve? I always felt like that talent was situational, but it is pretty useless in this case. It is a waste of talent points against druid/warrior. Your buffs aren't going to be dispelled by this match up, speccing into mental agility is a much better option. Hell, even improved inner fire is viable against this setup. It's all moot to me anyway as i don't play this comp. But the rest of this I agree with, thanks for the good insight anyhow :)
EnimMay 6, 2008 - 4:38 PM (HideShow)
I'd suggest the best non hybrid spec is either 49/12/0 or 50/11/0, but since blessed recovery is bugged atm I prefer 50/11/0.

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bxxGuhgtMcquf0t

That's the spec I use for 2v2.

Also I prefer ShS because of how much you get out of the spec + not getting instantly killed by mage/rogue or such.
The extra cooldowns are real handy, even though you don't have the same dmg as if you were mutilate.. Mutilate is soooo much easier to kite, and a rogues job is to stick on a target. You don't need insane burst for it.
BrohanMay 6, 2008 - 8:33 PM (HideShow)
meh factionz wasn't trying to insult you, just never had thought of really playing it this way, and it is basically the complete opposite of what me and malacoth did. When we were playing top 20 war/druid teams on our bg, we didn't play in an outlast style like you do. No disrespect, just pointing out how this combo can be used effectively with many different play styles and specs.
MindblurMay 6, 2008 - 9:26 PM (HideShow)
its funny because brohan got carried to 2300 and played warlock/druid from 2100 on. shouldnt really be talking about strats bro when you didnt beat one of the top 20 druid/war teams once.
BrohanMay 6, 2008 - 9:28 PM (HideShow)
Clearly mindblur, clearly. You watched my arena matches rite? We actually ended up making our final push, getting 1800-2300 in 2 weeks, by farming down a 2350~ war druid team for around 80 points. Nt Though
BrohanMay 6, 2008 - 9:30 PM (HideShow)
And talk about getting carried mindblur, you sat below 2K with 4/5 and both maces for nearly 2 months before raynarr xfer'd.
BrohanMay 6, 2008 - 9:32 PM (HideShow)
Mindblur, Tykael also carried me to 2140 feral druid/ rogue right?
FactionzMay 7, 2008 - 12:38 AM (HideShow)
I said you should spec for dru/warr but I was mainly addressing the rogue not the priest. Silent Resolve helps alot against any warlock team, any priest team and any shaman team.
MindblurMay 7, 2008 - 7:06 AM (HideShow)
yes

Thank you, I think we'll finally break 1849 using your druidcheese lolstrat. Srsly, very helpful. + rep.
AbeyanceMay 7, 2008 - 7:29 PM (HideShow)
Faction: Basically my Mut Rogue just quit and I'm trying to find another Mut but can't. So basically what does combat really help with? I know it does more damage than ShS but I guess I'd like to know how. I knew that Mut gave incredible burst during a KS and had poisons that were hard to deal with, but what does combat give over ShS? I'm thinking just Mace stuns and more constant dmg? So does that mean the intent of going combat would be to control via mace stuns and just outmana the opposing healer?

And the popular combat spec would be 20/41/0? How much does this hurt losing points in MoD (especially regarding my rogue getting sapped)?

Thanks in advance.
MobilityMay 8, 2008 - 3:13 AM (HideShow)
this combo is a piece of shit and gets countercomped by everything.
FactionzMay 8, 2008 - 7:34 AM (HideShow)
Mace stuns and the fact that its the highest rogue dps spec period (this does carry over into pvp). If you pick up blade twisting, you can go double wound or deadly/wound as well though i've never tried it. Your rogue getting sapped isn't a big issue, though it can set you back slightly against double dps teams.
NoodleiniMay 8, 2008 - 10:26 AM (HideShow)
would you recommend 27/34/0 with vile and imp poisons + quick recovery or should a combat rogue go with the 20/41/0 spec? (curious)

few things...
expertise vs attack power? I'm not sure if it's worth it but the expertise seems to help land gouge and KS when i equip 44 rating trinket or the 100 proc necklace.

you say gem etc defensively with war/druid in mind. Does that mean regem with more resilience and stamina (which is what i attempted)? I dislike overloading resil as mutilate because my AP is already pretty low. even with all my epic shit that most ppl can't get i'm rockin about 1500+- : /

Factions was never top rogue / priest in shadowburn. Where ever this shyt came from needs to end now. He xferred off shadowburn BG and cant even get a 1900 team. These strats are garbage. Just like the priest who posted them.

I think your guide was great and it answered all my questions.

Leave the man alone, if u wanna do something constructive then write your own guide, this is just his view on the tactics and should be respected as such, atleast he's giving something out to the community,

Qontrol is pretty angry because I have access to the account with leader of his Gladiator team and can kick him whenever I want. He's not going the right way about it, really.

Now i just rerolled rogue and hit 70 at the very end of S3 but when i played on my hunter alot it seemed that any Mutilate/combat rogues that werent in PvE gear were pretty easy to kite and eventually dominate as hunter/priest...

Like i said im a total nub still to rogue/priest but we play as ShS and so do 90% of the other priest/rogue teams on my BG. Only ones that dont go ShS are the Lolglaive rogues and full 4/8t6 mutilate rogues from time to time. So im just curious how you play this with mutilate against druid teams who dispell your poisons get away then just kite you *shrug* just curious because i love mutilate but never thot to spec into it because of the lack of viability
