General Information

Lets begin this guide with talking about the popularity of the warlock/paladin and the advantages/disadvantages of it. First, warlock/paladin is an extremely popular build in the middle brackets and somewhat towards the upper end. However, this combo is 100% capable of being in the top 5 of your battlegroup. This combo is based on around a class that can last forever, a warlock. A warlock unlike other class does not go out of mana and can always be dealing out damage. Yet, this comes at a cost of his healer's mana pool. If you have a paladin geared enough this combo can last for a very long time. Paladin/warlock matches are tough and many will last a very long time. However, do not get discouraged. Keep trying out different strategies and figuring out what works best for you. This guide can offer some hints but it is not the end all for this combo. I am writing this from a paladin PoV and from what works best from when I played this combo. There are many strengths with this combo and many possibilities arise. It is endless what crazy ideas one can come up with when playing with a warlock.

Strengths
Paladin: We offer our blessings. These consist of Blessing of Freedom, Blessing of Protection and Blessing of Sacrifice. These are the main blessings you will be using in arenas. (Blessing of Light is also used but mainly towards the beginning of matches or really late into them) Blessing of Freedom allows yourself or your warlock to remain slowing impairment free. This means no crippling poison, or hamstring or even the slowing effect from frostbolt. Blessing of Protection makes the target immune to physical attacks. *This includes blind now* In addition, a paladin may BoP someone while he is stunned. Blessing of Sacrifice is an underused blessing but one of the most important. It transfer damage from the target of the blessing to the paladin. Many people use this for melee based attackers or for use on the pet to nullify the Soul Link damage, however the best use of it comes in terms of breaking CC. BoSac, since it damages you the paladin, you will break CC effects like sheep, blind, and maybe even fear. A paladin has the ability to cleanse poison, magic and disease abilities. This is great for keeping your lock free of fears, DoTs or yourself from being mana drained. A paladin has amazing longevity. Their heals cost little to no mana and you must use this to your advantage. A paladin has high armor value since they wear plate and thus melee is easily healed through. This leads to the fact that paladins can and 95% of the time MUST use pve based gear or have high mp5 based gear. (I will talk about gear collecting later.)

Warlock: A warlock is well a warlock when comes to dominating pvp. They are very good at 1v1 encounters and since they have the ability to heal themselves they can take huge amounts of damage. In addition they have that amazing ability to transfer 20% of their damage taken to their pet with Soul Link. A warlock will never run short of damage because of his lifetap ability. This makes longevity matches in favor of the lock. In addition, he is not a cooldown dependent class which means that he can put out constant damage. A warlock is a dotting class which means he casts very little but still puts out huge amounts of damage. A warlock offers CC in many ways. These are usually through the form of curses which only 2 classes can dispel (Mages/Druids). Curse of Tongues and Curse of Exhaustion are the two most commonly used. Tongues increases the cast time of all casted spells by 60%. This is a huge CC effect on all casting classes. Exhaustion is a talented curse that slows the target by 30% and thus kiting can be achieved with this curse. A warlock also has the ability to target fear and AOE fear. Both are extremely useful in terms of CC and combining them with curses make warlocks extremely tough to beat. Finally, warlocks have the ability to drain mana which only adds to their huge arsenal of weapons.

Warlock Pet: Warlocks will do best to use a felhunter (on a caster heavy team) or a voidwalker (on a melee heavy team) to ensure the best results. Each pet offers different positives and negatives and this they will have their own section. Felhunters are the choice pet for teams without warriors. It is up to you to decide if you can keep them out against hunters and rogues (Will be explained later). A felhunter is a magic killer basically. It has high resistances and the ability to spell lock a target. Spell lock is along the same lines as silence and counterspell put together. A Voidwalker is a tank and does exactly that. He is there to absorb damage and mitigate as much as possible. With a Void out a lock takes 10% less damage on top of the already 20% from being soul link. In addition a voidwalker has about 10k armor and 10k health. This is roughly the opposite of the felhunter who has about 7k health and close to no armor.

Weaknesses
Paladin: Since the paladin is a casting healer (i.e. cannot HoT and run out of LoS), he must maintain visual sights on his lock the entire time while healing. This allows him to be CCed very easily. A paladin cannot cleanse Curses which means CoT hurts more then any other class because we cast every heal. We are a primarily defensive class only offering minimum CC (Hammer of Justice, Arcane Torrent). A paladin can only cleanse 1 debuff of each type at a time. This at time hurts us (hunters with scorpid pet and a viper sting), yet we can cleanse only poison/disease effects without cleansing magic with the Purify skill. Paladins are noted for being the easiest healer to be CCed in arenas because they are a defensive class offer little to no offensive abilities. Yet, their strengths lie within effeciency and longevity. Your partner needs to help you out if you do become CCed in any manner.

Warlock: Despite what most people think, a warlock actually have quite a few weaknesses. A warlock usually must run with full pvp gear unlike his partner due to the fact that he will be taking most of the damage the entire time. Max resilience is almost a must unless you run with Two Pieces of the Tier 5 and a Void Star Talisman (Both PvE based items). Melee targets truly hurt warlocks and especially rogues. Rogues can lock down a lock very easily and basically take them out of the game. Healing debuffs now effect their ability to drain life and siphon life so their overall healing goes down. Their biggest weakness is their pet. A SL/SL lock is based on his pet surviving. Without it he loses the 20% damage mitigation. To kill a lock, you kill his pet.

Builds

Paladin

Speccing for this combo your paladin should be using a moderation of a 41/20/0 build. This allows the paladin to gain all the healing attributes needed to maintain high and effective healing while at the same providing his lock and himself with the much need Improved Concentration aura.

Warlock

A warlock needs to be a variation of a SL/SL build. This allows the lock to heal himself which keeps his paladin out of Line of Sight (LoS) In addition it gives him the much needed Soul Link which transfers damage taken to his pet by 20%. Many locks tend to use 26/35/0 , 25/36/0, 24/37/0 or a variation of those.

Thank you for posting this. My partner and I have been working on this comp the last 2 weeks or so and are still working out the kinks. As you stated, our biggest problem to date is rogues. Hunter / Druid teams have proven to be a bit of a pest so far as well.

HUNTER DRUID TEAMS ARE BASTARDS, HELP ME HELP ME HELP ME!
MarshawnFeb 19, 2008 - 7:56 AM (HideShow)
Someone please give some basic strat for defeating druid/war. Do you try to straight up OOM the druid first (tough to do with innervate and his ability to root your pet and travel form off to drink), or do you try to spread damage around and look to spike someone down if they get low enough?
DwarfighterFeb 20, 2008 - 2:48 PM (HideShow)
Going to do 2v2 with a lock who atm is BT/MH geared and he'll get Sunwell gear. I haven't done PvE since summer and is all out PvP gear. What should I do gear way and so for lock. btw he got Void Star Talisman.
TruereligionFeb 21, 2008 - 2:02 AM (HideShow)
Yeah i need advice as well, My warlock and I hit a brick at 1825ish, then get a druid/war, druid/lock, druid/hunter. We cant beat these damn teams. Trying to make the druid oom, but he gets aways and stealths then drinks. No way my pally can outlast a druid! QQ.
EngreyFeb 21, 2008 - 10:24 PM (HideShow)
On druid/war teams we usually just keep both the warrior and the druid dotted as much as possible. Toss a few cc's here and there and it usually works. It keeps the druid pressured on healing while my partner kites the warrior around pillars and such. Doesnt work all the time but thats our strat. Priest/lock seem to be giving us some trouble, along with every other druid combo out there.
LapchernFeb 26, 2008 - 8:34 PM (HideShow)
hunter/druid

1) dot everything, including the pet
2) mana drain hunter first
3) lock & pally go in for the kill on pet when hp gets low (death coil, hammer of j, etc)

easy fight
LapchernFeb 26, 2008 - 8:35 PM (HideShow)
also once hunter is oom, continue dotting everything, and keep dpsing down the hunter (and draining). the key is to pressure the druid to use up all his mana and eventually fail to heal the hunter.
MarshawnMar 2, 2008 - 9:06 AM (HideShow)
Engrey - On druid/war fights, does the warrior generally go after your paladin before he goes after you? I tend to have the warriors hop on me right away, and with mortal strike up it's hard for me to take that much damage even with a VW out unless I have steady heals - which is difficult with my pally cycloned. The warrior seems to drop me before I drop him often, since he's hotted up and my paladin loses the CC battle to the druid.

How do I counteract this?

it was right key to druid/warr teams are dotting em both up.warr will probably be on lock all the time but me and my pala do a special tac.Dot em up both focus on druid for a while when he almost dead leave him to run other side of arena and full dps on warr.u got to understand that this doesnt always work.reason that i leave druid cus they are good at runing away from you and outhealing dots (hamstring always on me)if they go for pet need pala to save him.

We also got problem agains Priest/rogue, help pls
BalkanMar 11, 2008 - 12:24 PM (HideShow)
against sprist/rogue:

1) DoT both of them, put CoT and pet on sprist
2) CC the sprist: spell lock, fear, DC
3) Drain spriest, go for the kill

It is very important you get to rogue before sap or you will have to use trinket and eat the full blind while they are destroying your paly.

80% of the time they will try to down the paly which gives you plenty of time to CC spriest, if they go on you, paly can just spam heals as you DoT both of them.

Saffira, please update this! /salute saffira
RushyyzMar 13, 2008 - 9:05 PM (HideShow)
it is so easy to beat a druid/war team.the fight usualy goes with war killing your felhunter first. at this time.. you run the opposite way and start summoning a VW. by the time ur fellhunter dies ull have a VW up. if he tries to do that. you do the same thing. eventually hell realize to let the VW go. now.. if he goes on you right away and druid is clycloning pally you have to make sure SL is up on druid/war and u have to save DC/CoX for the warrior. also save trinket for when warrior uses intercept. you will be going down mad fast so keeping SL on both targets and draining health on the warrior is a must. the pally needs to be spamming BoP after cyclone is on DM and you need to make sure to use HS when MS is off you. after pally is immune to cylones its a fairly easy fight. main drain druid and have you pally keep him in combat if you cant.

DrakedogMar 14, 2008 - 11:04 PM (HideShow)
hoping to se a update soon !

any tips on warrrior + resto shaman? The shaman's water shield continuously generates mana with the pet hitting him. Is there a way to keep him from drinking without procing his shield?
LapchernMar 18, 2008 - 5:37 PM (HideShow)
auto devour?
ToidsMar 19, 2008 - 7:45 PM (HideShow)
Your lock needs to run with a VW like he does vs any other war combo so you can't depend on devour. Basically the key to outlasting sham/war is all on pet micromanagement position the VW close to the shaman(using attack and stay commands) and use the ranged taunts or just send the VW in to attack the shaman for a second then put it back on stay to keep him in combat.
LapchernMar 19, 2008 - 9:46 PM (HideShow)
shamans have a lack of cc other than earth shock. the paladin should put blessing of light on the pet and spam flashes like crazy. shammies run out of mana fast.
ShindouMar 22, 2008 - 11:15 PM (HideShow)
I'm playin the paladin role in this combo and i've learned quite alot from it.
Teams which you will prolly always lose against if they play fairly well is :
Hunter + discpriest , Rogue + warlock, rogue + discpriest. Other than that, it's been going quite well.

Shammy + warrior

Never have pet on a resto shammy first of all! A paladin should hunt every totem there is so the shammy needs to put more up which will make him lose mana, and thats where the lock dot him up and mana drain. A paladin should always heal with HOLY LIGHT in this fight. You wait until ur out of combat, cast a Holy Light and SPAM water in the meantime and you'll drink afterwords even if ur in combat, with this way you'll win the mana fight.
ShindouMar 22, 2008 - 11:19 PM (HideShow)
Warrior + druid

VW always on warrior setups.
Use BoL on ur lock and do exactly the same with the drink bug. Your lock should have the warrior in a place where u can heal the pet when he comes for the healing of the warrior. With this trick you'll win the mana fight if they play fairly defenceive...
A smart druid will always keep you in combat, and try to CC you as much as he can so you'll never have time to heal. Though it's not impossible if ur lock is well geared.
I personally play with imp Hoj for this reason.
ShindouMar 22, 2008 - 11:23 PM (HideShow)
Rogue + Druid

A fairly easy fight. Keep BoS up all the time which will make the rogue do no dmg at all :p . Keep pet on druid and dont forget to heal it cause it's really hard to dps a rogue sometimes so the druid got loads of time to nuke pet down which we don't want to happend. Basiclly when the druid comes for heals or he wants to CC ur warlock has to fear and dot him up. use your Hoj on rogue so he wastes more CD's, a good thing is to judge the rogue with JoJ and stun him, freedom on lock and he'll use CoE, when the rogue is out of CD's that is. SS aswell ofc.
ShindouMar 22, 2008 - 11:29 PM (HideShow)
Hunter + Discpriest

Dot everything up. CoE on priest, NOT CoT cause he'll fear you and ur fucked anyhow. Keep the pet away from the priest and dps it at the same time, he'll prolly recall it, then drink. Fear much in this fight. fear away the hunter with dots then CoE on him and run away for example. pally have to kite the discpriest so he won't mana burn you. Stun pet, warlock fear, and you run like a %"&"¤ to another place and hopefully your poisons has run out. :p that's basiclly it. gibb pet when u can and keep the hunter on lower mana than 1700.
ShindouMar 22, 2008 - 11:31 PM (HideShow)
Mage + Rogue

Free rating... IF they go on the lock... :O ;P
anyhow, keep BoS up from the start which will make u immune to sheep and blinds. Heal ur lock and he'll kill both easily. If they would go on the pally, the lock really needs to help out, avoid using your bubble the first thing cause they'll just iceblock + vanish, try to outlast while the lock is dpsing and when u have to, use bubble. but when u have used it, your fucked if they'll get a good nuke on ya.
ShindouMar 22, 2008 - 11:45 PM (HideShow)
If you want more combos just write
Summary:
This combo isn't workin very well nowadays. Paladin is a broken class in PVP, 2v2 atm because every other class know's how to play against them now. I've reached 1960 with this combo in Bloodlust with just s1 gear. The combo will never reached the top again. To many anti combos on the way. I smart druid could easily CC you for 20 sec, and his warrior, lock, hunter, rogue won't take 20 sec to kill my lock, it'll go alot faster.
A discpriest will eventually catch up to you, use psyhic scream and there you have 2k mana gone. Mana fights against druids is a hell, don't count on any mana drains, if the druid is clever he'll keep u in combat so you wont drink which will result in there win.

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=sVxuMguGeotZVox0h , This spec will be best for you in 2v2 with a lock. You need that extra run speed. You won't use Bok anyhow so prot is useless. That's it for me :)

ShindouMar 22, 2008 - 11:47 PM (HideShow)
I've respecced Retribution. Gonna try hunter + retri pally :) gonna be fun
DrakedogMar 23, 2008 - 7:24 PM (HideShow)
ME LOVE Shindou
GrowgoeMar 24, 2008 - 5:34 PM (HideShow)
Its not only BOK you'll miss. What about conc aura, improved stoicism and 4 sec shorter BOF?

With your spec, Shindou, you really need to LOS and be on your toes at all times. : )
LapchernMar 26, 2008 - 5:09 PM (HideShow)
thanks for the writeups shindou.. regarding this tip on rogue/druid:

"a good thing is to judge the rogue with JoJ and stun him, freedom on lock and he'll use CoE"

isn't there a problem with this because COEx won't work on the rogue when he's JOJ'd?
DrakedogMar 27, 2008 - 6:21 AM (HideShow)
Me and my paladin have a real problem vs druid warrior combs, i get the druid oom but somehow they allways manage to heal up them self and their warrior with 0% mana, i try to have them both full dotted but somehowe the druid manage to keep them both alive. Eventuelly my pala gets oom and then it ends. Any suggestions?

ZephyrisMar 28, 2008 - 4:00 PM (HideShow)
Drake, your paladin has to help burst something down sometimes. Make sure you have auto devour off and go for deathcoil burst. Against dreamstate druids its really hard.
LapchernApr 2, 2008 - 4:06 PM (HideShow)
i need more rogue priest ideas.... also against any rogue combo, i can hardly ever get a fear off...

also regarding warrior/druid, my pally always goes oom with the druid having about 4-5k mana left... what are we doing wrong? i dot everything. however....

1. i cannot drain the druid nor the warrior because warrior pummels
2. i cannot fear for same reason as above
3. i cannot fear because druid is constantly on the move, LOSing me
TisiphoneApr 3, 2008 - 11:15 AM (HideShow)

ZephyrisApr 8, 2008 - 4:34 PM (HideShow)
Shindou said some pretty dumb stuff sometimes. At some points in a game theres no reason why CoT isn't completely viable for using against priests, there's no reason your paladin shouldn't be on top of cleansing you of fears if you're not a shit lock and aren't CCing the hunter as much as you can. You only want to have one target fully dotted at a time, most often the pet. Killing a pet helps a paladin a lot, and your paladin just help kill pets after a line of DoTs is on them.

Lapchern: against warrior druid due to it being a difficult fight, alternating sac/freedom and making sure you're on top of damage is the main thing you need to be doing, you can't tunnel vision the druid and try to drain all the time because that doesn't work.

No druid can CC a paladin for twenty seconds if his lock is worth a shit, thus why this team is in third on my battlegroup. It's the hardest lock/healer combo to play as the warlock, it requires you to have good synergy with your paladin. A lot of it does revolve around your paladin knowing what hes doing. He has to be a good kiter, be on his toes and be good at blessing management. The reason paladin lock is hard to do well with is because warrior/druid can be tough to beat, and priest/rogue is a hard counter. Priest rogue is the sole reason I ever think about running with a different healer; druid rogue we haev almost no trouble with, but with priest/rogue between offensive and defensive dispels, mana burn and neither target being gibbable/a rogue on you a whole game it's the hardest fight by far. A great thing about this setup is hunter teams are not too challenging at all, compared to playing with a priest or a druid.

Another thing is remember to apply detect invis/unending breath/fel armor again after it gets dispelled, Fel Armor helps paladins out so much.

Most of Shindou's strats were accurate, I'll try to help out a bit with what I know from playing this for a little while; gonna drop in on the druid lock matchups to see what needs to be here

Warrior/Druid in:
a) Blades Edge - Trouble keeping druid in battle for obvious reasons
b) Ruins of Lordaeron - druid moves north and south into starting points to constantly get drinking time

Blessing of freedom is not enough and judging the druid doenst seem to help much.
HadinApr 17, 2008 - 9:02 PM (HideShow)
I played this combo with a lock with 15k hp and full venge except shoulders. we got 1850 instant nps. but then at 1850 we met Discpriest/rogue 3 times and we lost all the time. it is simply no way to win. they counter uss 100% why? well here are some points:
- BoF and BoP are both dispelled at once
- Rogue locks down the Warlock 100%, while the priest go LoS
- it is especially hard when the rogue is Mutilate, cause then it is constant nuke.
- if i need to put some hardcore healing on the lock the priest will fear/manaburn me
- they also got blind when all cds are burned, doesnt really mather if i BoP when blinded, dispelled at once.

So i cant get it how ppl can get 2400 rating with it, i would really need some good tips vs this anti set up, + those who reached 2400 probably met no Discpriests? well that is just my PoV
RyujiApr 17, 2008 - 9:48 PM (HideShow)
^^ You can't get above 1850 with this team unless you win trade.
ZephyrisApr 17, 2008 - 11:36 PM (HideShow)
Kobk's lock is FG and Kobk has T6.

Ryuji is retarded.

"BoF and BoP are both dispelled at once".. what my pally and I try to do while the priest is trying to manaburn him is pull the priest out of my LOS.. or I get out of the priests LOS (whichever is easier in the situation).. then my pally runs into my LOS and throws BoF while the priest is casting a mana burn out of my LOS so I get atleast 5 seconds of freedom with junk buffs up... and if my pallys stun is up that's even more time since he can stun the priest first.
We generally try to do this after kidney shots preferably.

Even doing this it does not work everytime.. we're maybe 50/50 against any 2k+ priest/rogues.
ZazabmwApr 18, 2008 - 2:09 AM (HideShow)
idk what you guys are talking about but this team is easy 2k+. disc priest rogue is tough but it is beatable. your lock needs to keep dots on both and fear rogue as much as possible in order for your lock to get a fear on the rogue now you'll have to hoj him everysingel time it is up. and all u do is drain priest and go for the kill it's easy and make sure you always use holy light and drink right after. we going for gladiator with this setup takes practice.
LapchernApr 24, 2008 - 5:33 PM (HideShow)
i'm interested in hearing some offensive BOP strategies... please share. it seems quite hard to do with druids and priests constantly losing me
LapchernApr 24, 2008 - 7:55 PM (HideShow)
also is it better to drain tank a warrior or try to run around a pillar kiting (even tho he's right next to me) ? this is assuming i have full dots up of course.
DarkidoeApr 24, 2008 - 8:44 PM (HideShow)
Offensive BoP is generally for blowing up a warrior on you.. not so much a healer unless you have HoJ up and he's in your LOS. And if the warrior can keep up with you all running around a pillar does is LOS your pally... if we face druid/war and they're not playing really offensively I don't move much all game.

SovelissApr 27, 2008 - 10:32 AM (HideShow)
In dire need of matchups, especially Warr/druid - lost 120 rating to them and starting to be clueless on how to face them.. after a HoJ-> fear combo on the druid we hardly ever manage ot nuke the warrior down who gets healed at like 4%.. add that to cyclone spam and either my pet or i eventually drop. And yes my pally has tier 6.
ShindouApr 28, 2008 - 6:21 PM (HideShow)
A paladin needs t6 gear for this combo to work over 2k, 2 set bonus for t6 is extremely important. I said some pretty dumb things in my matchups but it was basiclly just for the noobs to get a grip of things. Biggest problem is by far rogue, disc priest as you should have noticed :p Atleast at my rating, the disc priest is chasing me the whole fight. Without the extra runspeed in retri I'll get owned for sure thats why i chose that spec.... And no, the warlock can't do shit when the rogue is on him
DarkidoeApr 28, 2008 - 7:10 PM (HideShow)
My pally has full pvp gear and we were rated 2140 a few weeks ago on a point selling team (we don't have a main team atm so aren't even pushing)... so you definately don't need T6 if you're good.
LapchernApr 28, 2008 - 7:58 PM (HideShow)
fighting warriors in general, i noticed that drain tanking makes my pally's job a lot easier. of course u gotta keep dots up on everything. keep an eye out for the druid as he pops in and out to drop dots. when he's gone, drain tank warrior. just my 2 cents.
JmackMay 3, 2008 - 9:03 AM (HideShow)
we won't see match-ups anytime soon from saffira, he quit the game on me and i transfered servers to raid. We had 2300 rating b4 we sold the team and started a re-level for a short time until he quit.

PS any good paladins want to 2v2 with me on my new server. Im on Frostmane atm:P

And for Lapchern, to beat warrior/druid on blade's edge and ruins its all about putting pressure and max damage out on the warrior and the druid himself so he can't run away and drink. When the druid tries to run away to get drink time, searing pain spam(drain life when pummeled) the warrior and keep all DoTs up. Hope this helps you.
KronoggMay 3, 2008 - 5:53 PM (HideShow)
Pally / Warlock is an amazing team, me and my partner have reached 2k and going strong still, we have a few teams that do however throw wrench into it.

Mainly, we cannot beat war/sham.. reading some of these posts, I've tried to kill totems and it just doesn't seem to work, either my pet will be focused and killed or the shaman runs off and puts more down.

Also, we lose to disc. p / rogue almost 100% of the time.

druid/war is easy mode:
first off, most warriors are going to be bad and not get a charge off on you, so make sure you dot them before they get in range for charge. Corruption, Agony, Siphon L, then if you look at his buffs 90% of the time he will not have deathwish or beserker stance up, so toss a fear at him. Yeah, this helps because it takes him 1-2 seconds to get out of the fear giving you time to immolate without getting pummeled.

at this point, you should see the druid popping out to heal. The paladin has the most important job of stunning him before he gets a cast off, which is harder than it sounds but if you do it, you win automatically -> fear, dcoil, spell lock on the droid and you win. If he get a heal off on the warrior, simply dot both of them have ur pet on the droid and drain mana when you can. It only takes one good fear and a spell lock to win you the game, just remember to keep dots on the warrior including immolate. The strategy we normally use is once the warrior reaches 50% hp and has FULL DOTS on him (syphon, immo, corrupt, agony) the pally should Hammer of GG the droid, you should cast on the warrior 1 searing pwn and then immediatly fear the droid and get ready for a spell lock. Pally DPS will win you the fight, you need to burst the warrior as much as you can and most of the time the HoTs will not be able to heal enough.

Nature's Swiftness might get used and bring the warrior to full, if this happens, simply rinse / repeat.. this can make the fight very long, but if you keep on mana drains and dots you will find it a lot easier to win. Their have been many times
TeodorMay 7, 2008 - 11:50 AM (HideShow)
i recently played with a friend(holy pally) and wanted to get him shoulders. we went 36-2 from 1500 to 2k the only teams we lost to were rogues with glaives.. so i was shocked since i know this setup isnt as popular as it used to be(i see 0 holy pally locks from 22-2300). after he bought his shoulders we tried to see how high we could get and we managed to go 50-5 to 2150..

for druid warrior:
Have blessing of light on your pet( this is makes it a bit easier for your paladin to heal the pet )dot the warrior up, hoj him los of his druid whenever it is up. Be aggressive on the druid(fears drains etc) and yes.. you can channel with a warrior on you, fake his pummel or bait it with a immolate or such. You must do everything possible to get that druid to pillar hump and los his warrior, he should only come out to hot. Usually the warrior goes for the pet, when he does this pull it back and put it in place while spamming searing pain on the warrior. If you know your pet will die call your pally to stop healing and drink run to another pillar or such and summon a void. If the warrior switches back to you and you cannot summon another pet just blow fel dom.

Now you have your VW out. Use suffering on the warrior then send it on their druid. The warrior will usually be on you now. This is when you bring him los of his druid. You cannot start doing major dps on the warrior before you hoj. Note this is very important, good warriors will go defensive and get back to the druid right when they sense they are in danger of getting bursted or such. The warrior usually has trinketed one of the previous hoj's by now. HoJ him in zerker behind the pole and right when the druid comes fear him, he will trinket this is when you DC. Your paladin will be doing most of the burst while your dots tick. The warrior should be dead by now and gg you win. This will work to 2k at least.

I'll come up with a strategy for Priest rogue ill post here soon.
TeodorMay 7, 2008 - 12:10 PM (HideShow)
priest rogue:
This setup is can be EXTREMELY hard for Paladin/warlock especially if they've got some fgt PvE rogue with glavies. Although you will most likely lose, it is not unbeatable. Have shadow resist aura up for burns.

If the rogue is shadowstep it makes it difficult on the lock to do much, if the rogue is mutilate Curse of Weakness if very good here due to the fact they do not have deadliness nor sinister calling and their AP will go down ALOT. Freedom/CoEx whenever you can. It will be dispelled most likely but it is still good to keep the rogue off you whenever possible.

Mana burns are your main priority as a lock. Their priest should not be able to get one burn on your paladin, counter spell/CoT every burn and los as much as possible. DoT up both and pull the rogue far from the priest at all times. Movement is critical in these games. The more their priest moves the less your paladin gets burned and the more defensive they play.

Fear the rogue as much as possible. It is hard because he is on you most of the fight but when freedom and coex is up on the rogue you should be at a good distance giving you some time to fear. If not it's fine keep moving.. WATCH THE ROGUES ENERGY! The rogue will usually be casually spamming hemo so whenever you see him with no energy catch him by surprise and fear his ass. When he is feared start draining the priest.
Remember the only way you can win is by mana. So if you dodge burns and get occasional drain manas off on him he should be oom and it should be over.

if you want any strats from me send me a private message or just repost here..
TeodorMay 7, 2008 - 12:17 PM (HideShow)
oh P.S. for priest rogue... it is also good to death coil the rogue after the rogue cloaks, this allows you to fear him. If he trinkets instantly, stop casting to fear and fake his kick, fear him right after.
LapchernMay 7, 2008 - 4:52 PM (HideShow)
nice tips. would be interested in more rogue/druid angles... thanks
SarayhMay 7, 2008 - 8:39 PM (HideShow)
VS rogue/priest pally need to run LoS on every mana burn. Pally may need CoT, don't be afraid off using HoJ, you most likely won't kill anything before priest is oom. Lock kite with bof/coex mostly or tank with bol and put max dots on both and drain the priest. Pally should be able to drink from time to time, stop the priest from drinking, pally too. Worked up too about 2150. Match can get very long and boring. Btw, shadow aura is a waste imo, since you shouldn't be taking any burns except when you get feared/blinded and lock will be wanting conc aura. On nagrand you should win a lot, on bem and rol particularly it's slightly harder.

You prolly have to use a VW, you can try to start with a FH, but you won't be able to keep it vs good teams. If you get to have FH you have another advantage since fear will be dispelled and burns csed.

Btw, priests using MSD is lame and fucks you over, at least it did when I played before MSD got the nerf.
SarayhMay 7, 2008 - 8:56 PM (HideShow)
didn't see teodor's post before after i submitted, guess his writeup is more detailed, tho i disagree on shadow aura vs rogue/priest.

As for druid/warr i can imagine now with drinking being nerfed you'd have to blow up the warrior or the druid'll run out of mana after you, unless you're kitted out in pve gear at least. On BEM this was true even prior to the drinking nerf.

When you enter and see a warrior on the other team, summon a VW IMMEDIATELY and have the pally go interrupt the other team! FH is no good vs warriors. Don't waste mana healing the FH, try to get a VW out. BoP --> summon VW if you have to.

MSD is (was at least) really great in 2s for fast pet summons.

What you'll have to do is put some pressure on both druid and warr and when druid goes to drink, blow up the warrior, use bop on lock so he can spam without getting interrupted. If you have DC and HoJ up to use on druid followed by a fear you'll be able to smoke the warrior pretty often. May not work twice in a row.

Had games vs druid/warrs were we ended up leaving cause we didn't get anywhere and none of us were going oom after like 30 mins.

Guide coming out tommorow. will give a link when it does (couldn't put on AJ unfortunately :( )
TeodorMay 7, 2008 - 10:29 PM (HideShow)
the reason I would want shadow resist over con is because spell lock tends to resist alot and i wouldnt want my paladin to get burned once at all, its like insurance. Also if the other team plays very aggressive my paladin will force to come out of los and heal me.

ill post rogue druid soon

Could you post some tips for fights against hunter druid please.
TeodorMay 8, 2008 - 9:44 AM (HideShow)
sorry I couldn't post, been busy 2sing. Right now we are at 2210 and prob gonna stop for a lil bit. alright on with the strat.
Rogue/druid:
The druid will probably be dreamstate which means he will be able to solo your pet. You have to control your pet very well against this setup.

DoT up the rogue and HoJ him right away. He will most likely trinket, if not fear him . The druid will eventually come out from the rogue taking damage. When you see the druid put your pet on him and run to him with freedom. Unlike priest/rogue you must fight close to the druid because of your pet, if you fight far he will solo your pet and your paladin will not get to the pet in time. Dot up the rogue and fear him as much as possible. Again fear him when you see his energy low or fake his kick. Once he is CCed tell your paladin to drink ASAP(THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU MUST TAKE EVERY TIME THE ROGUE IS OFF YOU TO DRINK!) run to the druid and immediately DoT him and drain. If he is pillar humping blow deathcoil into a fear and call for you pally to stop drinking and HoJ the rogue. You must get as much drains as possible. Similar to priest rogue this is also a mana war.

After the rogue is back on you re dot and repeat. If your pet gets low call it back to get your paladin to heal it. If the rogue switches to your pet call for your paladin to drink and resummon another one behind the pillar. If you get interrupted in anyway DO not blow fel dom.. the druid will try to kill your pet again. BoP and HoJ the druid if its up to stop cyclones. Just remember whenever the rogue is feared your paladin must drink, if he does not you will go oom before the druid does.

hunter druid inc.. I might make a guide for every setup im not sure if my strats are too great though.. this is just from my experience so far.. Haven't been playing lock pally very long. I've done it before with shitty gear but if I get good feedback ill submit a guide.. since saffira isnt anymore.
TeodorMay 8, 2008 - 10:06 AM (HideShow)
I've only played a select few hunter druids from these little games I've learned alot and it is easier than war druid IMO. Becareful because the hunter can rape your pet pretty fast, so try to bring the pet back for heals as much as possible.

Start off dotting the hunter and his pet you must have consistent dots on all 3 targets in this match. The druid will come out very soon to heal the hunter and his pet. Start drain mana spamming on the hunter, after he is oom tell your pally to bring the pet LoS of the druid and start dpsing it down. The hunter will call the pet back so you must HoJ the pet right when it is LoS of its druid. The druid will probably come to heal the pet this is when you fear. If the druid trinkets out the first one fear him again and usually the pet is dead by now. Great, now the druid has no trinket, the hunter has no pet and is oom. If the hunter is night elf it is gonna be extremely hard due to shadowmeld. He will feign death and drink so you must put your pet on the hunter right when the pet is dead and after feign death. After your pet is on him watch him carefully because he will wing clip your pet and try to drink. During all of this you are on the druid keeping him in combat and ccing him off your paladin so he can drinking. If you separate the two it is a guaranteed win. Have dots on both and keep them both out of combat. The druid should eventually go OOM while. If the hunter gets another pet out don't worry, send your pet back on the druid and redot everything. If your pet dies, summon another FH and put it on the druid the hunter will now have a pet if he doesn't already. Your paladin should be very high on mana now. When you see either of the two at 50% call for a HoJ. If it is the druid HoJ him into a fear into a DC into pet counter spell if the pet is on the hunter far away. He should be dead by now if your paladin got the burst off. If it is the hunter that is low, hoj him if he is los of his druid or hoj the druid if he is not. Then you do the cc rotation on the druid. They

just started trying this combo: warlock/holy pally - having troube against warrio/druid rogue/dpriest and just lost to a hunter/priest... mana burn messes with us a lot. we killed the huntards by dragging it away, then i drained the hunter to 0... but the priest still mana burned the shit out of my pally, i tried to fear and interrupt it with spell lock but i can only do so much it seems. and my paladin was oom. the hunter/priest ended up winning w/o a pet.

tips ? :)

teams that are hard: rogue/healer, warrior/healer - kinda 50/50, and priests in general - mana burn.

warrior/healer: we just try to set up a gib on the war and drag him away while the druid runs away from us.

In my experience as a H pally, Shindou's method for the Shammy+warrior combo isn't the best. In my opinion, the best way to do beat them is the following,
paladin:his job is to smack evry totem the shammy drops down, priorities being WF/Tremor. When the warrior reaches 75% its crunch time, Hammer the shammy,(and if your a B elf be ready with aoe silence if he trinkets out)and help ur lock kill the sham i.e Avenging wrath/holy shock/ and release judgement of righteousness.
Warlock:keep CoT along w/ other dots on the sha. When the war hits 75% HP get ready to DC/fear/(pet silence)the sham while you searing pain/shadowbolt spam the warrior. I also depending on the situation like to bop the lock so he can cc/deal dmg w/o any problems.Take advantage of shammies being the most CCable classes in the game ^^.the reason why i dont like shindous method is that it requires mana conserve, and when the wars got WF you cant be spamming FoL.

Dwdwqdqw, What you need to do vs warlock+rogue is, have your pally to give you blessing of sacrifice at first, then you have to cc them as much as u can, fear both of them to reduce their dps, dot both of them and focus the rogue, once the rogue uses his cOs, burn him down.

CratonJun 17, 2008 - 7:54 AM (HideShow)
Satisfy:
Basically, it comes down to getting the warrior low enough for you AND YOUR PALLY to burst him to nothing. You have to get him in a CC chain somehow -- that is the hard part. Once you get him in a bad spot and CC chain with his trinket down, you pump damage into the warrior. Before that, you spend all your time pressuring the warrior with immo/corr/coa/siphon and drain life/siphon spam, dotting/mana draining the druid everytime he pops into LoS to hot.

Once you get him low on mana, that is your cue to burst. An OOM druid does not have the mana to save a warrior from a strong burst attempt. If he does, he'll be horribly behind. In the event they recover (lolholyshockresists) you just reset and wait for your next opportunity. You play 30+ minute games against good teams.

Your paladin should keep light up and drink as often as possible. Fear the warrior to make him blow zerker rage, then fear him again 15 seconds later and have your pally drink at that time. If the druid attempts to stop him, he just opened himself up for a CC chain. If the warrior trinkets, fear him again. He just wasted his trinket.

Bring a lot of water.

wl/pal does have a lot of problems:

first... your pally needs AWESOME pve gear... without pve gear it's nearly impossible to stand a chance against warrior/healer and rogue/healer.

second... your opponents need to suck A LOT... you share games vs. good warrior/druid teams, but you will lose against every decent priest+ warrior/rogue/wl and druid+ hunter/rogue... there's no way to stand a chance against those teams (sure... if your opponents suck you win, or if you gib someone with awesome luck)

third... if the healer you are playing against stacks pve gear (or it's a dreamstate druid lawl), you lose (there's no way a warlock without druid support stands a chance against a druid/priest who stacks pve gear).

with a standard druid, you will always reach higher ratings MUCH MUCH MUCH easier than with an outstanding paladin... but i like this comp :D

greetz.

Ideally against disc priest rogue you want to do you best to keep pressure on their priest by keeping dots on the rogue, making the priest focus more on healing and dispelling. But when the priest tries to burn use your spell lock, hoj, and los to prevent protect your mana. Also when the priest goes for burns he will expose himself to your warlock, fear, tounges, dots, do whatever you need to stop burns.

A Void star talisman would own priest when they go for scream burns, but if you dont have one put your pet on stay or whatever to keep it away from the priest when he tries to fear and just devour the fear off your pally.

More importantly the position of your pally is crucial. GL! oh and dont get down and out if you get worked, they are a hard counter, just work on it. Generally if you are playing well you will probably only will win 65% of the time against good priest rogues.
KaelanthJul 19, 2008 - 9:28 PM (HideShow)
How much MP5s would be needed for a Paladin who is looking to arena with a warlock in the mid-to higher brackets? I'm using the gems Royal Nighteye and its epic ocunterpart a lot lately (+9 Healing, +3 Spell Damage, and +2 MP5s), so would that be enough to last me?

Priest-Rogue

How i usually win againt priest\rogue is immedially cc the priest (fear, spelllock etc) dot him up a bit and if the rogue is beating on you(lock) the pally should be able to heal through it, while hes beating on you keep the priest feared with your pet on him and drain mana and do not stop, the key is to get the rogue on the pally so he can kite him around, make sure you through CoEx on him to help the pally out and just continue to fear the priest if possible and drain mana and keep them both dotted...Mana fight is all it is and GG..Keep us BoS and Bof and it shouldt be a problem.
