Mage/Rogue

VS.

Mage/Rogue

The idea is to Sap the Mage and open with a Shatter combo from invisibility. Force an early Ice Block before the Rogue even gets on the Mage. After the Rogue is out, BURST the Mage. If the Mage runs away too far switch to the Rogue. This fight comes down to whose Rogue is better at killing Mages.

Always focus the Mage first unless you can find the Rogue when he is away from the Mage. In this situation burn the Rogue.

If one of these targets gets too far from you do not hesitate to switch focus onto the other as they have no heals.

Had problems in mirror matches when they focus there DPS on me instead of my mage. The rogue CC's me (cheap/kidneyshot) so i can not burn down the mage. However, we win most of this matches, but when the rogue is human he mostly gets his opener on me -> loss.
Do you think we should try to focus their rogue in this case?

Um you have to remember that they dont have heals, if you can open on a rogue or CC the mage correctly than yeah go head, it works best if you go for the mage tho

Yes start on the mage to force the ice block.. a good mage knows when focused on to ice block and wait it out for a right time. It's all about the CC rotation and which rogue pops a better stunlock to aid in the cc rotation. This is a mirror match so it can happen to you as well so my advice is to start early and keep up a CC rotation on one of them.. whomever FIRST!

mage: to get a suprise on them have the mage go INV so they think it's a rogue/rogue, rogue/druid combo and they will attack the rogue to start... the last 10 secs have him try to sap/cheap shot the mage so he is mark and gives you time to set up your elemental, freeze them and even arcane explision (rank 1) to draw out the rogue. counterspell the mage so he is stuck on the rogue and start setting up either a sheep on the rogue or shatter on the mage. If the rogue is a nooob and goes for you slow him down to make him waste his cloak of shadow and eventually ICE BLOCK. the time it takes him to chase you down for an ice clock your rogue is smashing already 50% health off the mage. If he starts attacking the rogue just sheep him and counterspell the mage, setting up for a shatter combo and slowing him down for the mage as well.

rogue: garrote the opening and build up for a quick (3 pt) kidney shot and remember to shiv(w/crippling poison)! This way you have an deadly throw that silences again while you sprint next to them to kick him the mage in the face for another silience ( and if you silence him long enough he will eventually blink, and then you have him for sure ) . And if you shadow step always WAIT for him to blink when you use it. If not he will be kiting you and your will be stuck probably being sheeped, so use vanish to release quick and use cloak of shadow just after you silience him so he can't snare you when you have combo points ready. For the rogue controlling the mage as the main pressure person is key because you keep them away from a total CC rotation, and only one is not enough to control.. two have to work together to control the

The easiest way to tear apart their mage is to use your nova on the mage and when he blinks catch him with your pets nova or vice versa. If you can do this you will win. You dont even have to dps him yourself. Run around some pillars to dodge their rogue and LOS their mage while your rogue chops up a helpless mage. He will have to iceblock first which gives you the lead in the match. When he comes out of iceblock use your imp CS on him and Iceblock yourself. If they switch to your rogue, come out of iceblock early. If rogue stays on you then stay in block the full ten seconds. Either way you win.

Yeah, Victus has it right. First and foremost, your rogue should ALWAYS open on a mage with garrote. Secondly, fill up the combo meter fast and wait for that blink. Soon as the mage blinks, shadowstep to the mage and drop a 5 point kidney shot. That will force the iceblock. When your rogue forces that iceblock, our team calls for a "reset", the rogue vanishes, the mage iceblocks, and we reset the fight...this time without their mage having an iceblock. After the mage gets out of iceblock, your rogue finishes him off.

Oh no, this combo is realy hard i think. Yesterday we had the same problem (mage/rogevs mage/rouge). I tried to sep the mage, but it don't work's. The other rouge and the other mage killed my partner and so it was a looose....sucks
EverelleJun 26, 2008 - 8:27 PM (HideShow)
For me and my Partner its very hard. If i open on the mage i cant get enough dmg to fear him in an early iceblock.
When enemy Rogue opens on me: Im nearly dead when i come out of stuns and cant rly pressure either the mage or the rogue :(
Enemy Rogue on my mage: Dunno.... Should i use early blind to force trinket and my mage can dmg enemy mage a bit? Or should i atleast only dmg the mage while my mage mate ist owned by the rogue!?

Start on their mage before they start on your mage, and you should be fine
StupidrougesJul 18, 2008 - 3:57 AM (HideShow)
The way me and my rogue do it is by me (the mage) popping perception and trying to find the rogue, if not i let the other rogue come to me, and if he opens on me, my rogue instantly opens on him. Now, hes stun-locked and i cant throw sum dps, as mage comes in, i wait for him to cast, then CS it and sheep him, if he trinkets, he gets blinded and GG
StupidrougesJul 18, 2008 - 3:58 AM (HideShow)
i can* throw
StupidrougesJul 18, 2008 - 3:59 AM (HideShow)
o and if he iceblocks out of blind, his rogue is usually low, so my next poly for 4-5 secs is good enough

Strat for MR mirror (human rogue): Have your rogue perception and look for their rogue, as a mage pop invis and try to lance the other mage out of it so your rogue doesn't get caught by surprise then just LOS a little bit. If your rogue finds their rogue gg. If you can't find the rogue you have to outmage the other mage, and have your rogue wait until you force the rogue out, then from there you can decide (if the mage has either trinketed, blocked, or both) whether to open on him or switch to the rogue. I prefer switching to the rogue because you can use instants to burst him and then just control the mage and rely on your rogue if gear permits.
If you don't have a human rogue I suggest just using the same strat excluding the perception part. We usually win even if we don't find the rogue so human rogue isn't the end of the world on either side.

I always get mage to trinket early b4 the rogue even pops, nova cs mage and throw a shatter he will usually trinket or ice block, after either sheep him. if rogue pops on you your rogue should immediately stun lock rogue and pop ele and shatter combo. you should be set from this. just keep steady CC on the mage and keep frost ward and ice barrier up and CS mage every chance you get. :)
NihilitySep 12, 2008 - 11:26 AM (HideShow)
The rogue should never shadowstep to the mage and then open with cheapshot... you need the shadowstep after the blink from the mage. then continue with kidney and force him into his block. the fastest rogue wins
