Frost Mage/Destruction Warlock

VS.

Priest/Rogue

This almost plays out exactly like the Paladin/Rogue comp, but easier as there is no bubble and Hand of Freedom to deal with. As such, I'll copy it here with a bit of revising. Double Undead will present the most difficulty, followed by the only the Rogue being Undead, then only the Priest being Undead.

The opener is where it's all decided against these Rogue/Healer comps. Once you nail that opener it becomes much more manageable. This is how it will normally go down, and this is how you'll want to proceed to stop it.

The Rogue will usually open on you with a Cheap Shot, at which point you're spamming your Seduce onto him. Undead will WOTF, so keep spamming it, and some non-UD rogues will trinket it. To keep this seduce from getting dispelled your Mage will have to simultaneously land a Polymorph or CS/Polymorph on the Priest.

At this point you'll want to drop Curse of Elements on the rogue, and most likely your 2nd Seduce is ticking down. Start casting Chaos Bolt and have your Shadowfury ready to land as it finishes casting. Your Mage should also be ready shatter the Rogue. Drop a Corruption on him then portal out of there. The Corruption acts as a soft counter to vanish, assuming it's not dispelled (The Priest ideally should be CC'd the entire match). You'll want to portal at this point. The Rogue is pretty much forced to cloak regardless, and you'll be at a decently safe position away from him.

Your Mage partner will want to follow you trying to get the rogue out of stealth, as they usually reopen on you asap. From here on the Rogue has no cloak CD up, and possibly no trinket. Deep freeze/Death Coil/Fear kite him, drop your damage, and try to kill him quick, while minimizing as much damage as possible on yourself.

Mage PoV:

A lot like the Pally/Rogue fight, start out Invis to try to avoid the Sap. Trinket the Sap if the Rogue opens on your Warlock, Counterspell -> Sheep the Priest, wind up a shatter on to the Seduced Rogue. Try to AoE him out when he Vanishes. When he's back out get a Deep Freeze on him if he's low or a Sheep to buy your Warlock more time if the Rogue isn't low enough to kill in a Deep Freeze.

Once the rogue has re-opened on your Warlock, Seduce will probably be on DR so you will need to be ready to Sheep the Priest, then finish off the Rogue.

Love playing Mage/Lock, but we get absolutely destroyed by rogue priest, the seduce on the rogue when he jumps my lock is fine but as soon as he cloaks my lock dies even with teleport

Yeah it's a very stressful match up to run into, hopefully you'll have deep freeze/death coil/fears-shadowfury's up for the cloak though to alleviate some of that pressure. You pretty much have to lock that priest down the whole fight.

this fight is pretty straight forward....nowhere near as bad as any of the other rogue+X teams. as if this rogue is not careful he is toast.

if the rogue knows how to blow vanishes you're doomed. doing some fast dmg, then vanish, and do that untill he have no vanishes left. i don't even think i met any rogues in pvp gear, all of them in their mad t8.5 doing them mad dmg killing me within 5 seconds.. lol

I don't understand how you guys beat ANY rogue teams at all... :-/

We lose to BAD BAD BAD rogue teams 90% of the time. They can just kill either of us in pretty much a CoS.

Any advice please?

ok i play the lock side of this comp and recently i have droped alot of gold into my pvp set. I run 22k hp and 800resil and still get droped. but the only way to servive is to pop your trinket and your hp stone. shadow fury/fear or shadow furry/chaos depending on if your mage is engaged. we have seen some rouge/rouge but we will not have that problem past 1600(fingers crossed) and we have won! woot. but my mage is a bam*** lol. the only thing i can say is sac some dps and pump your defence. if you are dead you will do no dmg so... lol good luck this is a fun comp and i love it thanks torment.

Voren, the only thing I can suggest when facing an early cloak is to trinket asap and portal out. It helped a lot having instant seduce but you'll just have to try your best at making sure that the priest is CC'd.

I've just recently started running this comp and i'm having a hard time managing my pet, any suggestions on how to do better? Basically I mess that up and we lose nearly every game. Also, what do you reccomend going for on stats? I was going for about 750 resilience and I have about 2300 spellpower. Changing up trinkets etc I can get to 950 resi and 2100 spellpower, whats best for this comp?

My mage and I are losing 70% of our games only because 70% of the teams have rogues in them other than that we can easily take out every team.

Though I'm only playing around 1700, we've gotten a lot better at priest/rogue, making it one of our more favorable matchups. As the mage, I always try to pop the rogue out of stealth, while I'm on my way to the far side to try and tag the priest so I don't get sapped. The lock puts his portal in a good spot, preferably near a pathing (not necessarily LoS) obstacle, and then gets 30ish yards away from it. If I pop the rogue out or get in combat, great, I immediately head back to the lock's portal and get ready to deal with the rogue. We use seduce on the priest while I wind up a shatter on the rogue as soon as he opens, hoping to force a cloak. Lock portals over to me where we're in good position to pop the rogue before he gets back on the lock. If he takes his time, we usually have the priest in good position thanks to seduce, so we unload on him and force the rogue to make a move. After that, sheep priest, kill rogue. Lock has deathcoil up to let him get a shot or two off, but the mage should basically be able to annihilate the rogue at that point - cold snap if necessary to have CD's up.

Well personally i dont understand, we farmed priest rogue all the way up to 2k...then it started getting interesting 2k-2300 pretty much when the rogue opens we blow a seduce on the rogue and ill cs poly the priest...but i dont know most rogues just seem to get my warlock all the time, even when the priest is controlled, once hes cloaked and vannished after my lock has trinketed, if i cant get that rogue out of stealth before he reopens its just erg..frustrating.

remember to save you're cds for when the rogue uses his cds....if he pops Cloak of shadows teleport away cos only lasts about 4 seconds and wait for that to be over then seduce if that doesn't work or he trinks out then shadowfury coe chaosbolt fear ...most important of all is death coil..life saver will give you the couple seconds u need to fear or seduce and get shadowfury back
DanekeikOct 27, 2009 - 3:18 PM (HideShow)
That's how it worked for me on 3.2: when the rogue opens we get a seduce on him, poping WOTF or trinket, sheep the priest and get ready NOT to shatter rogue, but to sheep him. that gives my lock the chance to seduce priest while we go for full burst on rogue, forcing cloack and normaly the priests trinket.. After that, since seduce is on DR on priest and sheep is not( asuming that u ported away so rogue didnt open on you that soon) my warlock gets a void and survives. deep freeze, sheep, cs and fear priest till rogue is dead.
