General Information
Mage/Priest is a very different play style to get used to. For example when my partner and I first created the team I believe we went about 2-20 in our first games. (Although our hidden PR was about 2100). The synergy required between the two players is huge. A lot of practice is required in order for this combo to work. Patience is necessary, because this combo makes me want to cry sometimes.
Strengths:
To be honest this combo has little to no strengths. Playing this combo has zero guaranteed combos that are free wins. Each and every win has to be worked for. However I will outline the combos that my partner and I have the highest win/loss ratio against. I believe we are 90%+ vs. Any Healer/Warlock team. Mage/Rogue often ends up in a Mage Vs. Mage duel which Tort (my partner) almost always wins. Hunter/Paladin can be beaten quite often. These are by no means teams that Mage/Priest counters but teams that we have a higher win/loss ratio against.
Weaknesses
Rogues. Period. Rogue/Holy Paladin is brutal. I would say that our win percentage vs. this combo is just under 25%. Feral Druid/Rogue is another combo that is close to impossible. A few teams that are tough but definitely beatable are Rogue/Disc Priest, Hunter/Shaman, Death Knight, Holy Paladin, Ret/ Healer, Feral/Healer.

For the Mage definitely frost, no question. 20/0/51 would be my recommendation.
Priest
Gear
Mage
Mixture of PvE and PvP. I would recommend 2 pieces of T7.5 along with PvE weapons and rings. Anywhere from 500-600 resil should be fine. Do not gem for resil, gem for haste and spell power.
Priest
Almost full PvP Gear, you want to have around 950 resil, 2k sp. Gemming for resil is recommended. If engineering is an option, the lightning burst trinket and nitro boots would be a huge recommendation. Glyphs for 3.1 would be Penance, Dispel Magic, Pain Suppression. And for minor have Shackle Undead, Shadowfiend, and the third is irrelevant; probably either levitate or imp shadow protection.
Note on Strategies: For each strategy there will be a rating of 1-5 for difficulty (1 being easy, 5 being hardest) and a 1-5 for how often the combo appears. Remember that I play the Priest, so Mage tips will be minimum however there will be tons of great tips for Priests.

| Not to bash you or anything, but most of your tactics seems to be made to beat subpar players, I don't know if you've been lucky with meeting bad players or whatever, but your tactics aren't that great overall. For example, I have never beaten a _good_ dk+holy or Hunter+ Shaman/Paladin without killing pet, there is simply no way they will let you, possibly the shaman, but if so he's bad and forgot how to use totems and shock. Hunter/priest however there is no time, ever, to reset and then hunter is indeed the only target you can go for. And a few other strategys that just sounds dumb. And, you aren't high enough with that setup to make a guide for it, especially with your winratio. Anyways, some of the tactics are decent/good. | |

| how can you say were not high enough when we held number one mage/priest on BG9 for majority of season... our strats work for almost all teams. yourself obviously with less skill in the combo if you can't beat the teams we've vs'd. we have wins against teams in the top 10. this combo is obviously viable as we have sustained a 2400+ team rating with alot of games, meaning that is it not luck. I have had noobs say the same as you until they have seen my stream. look more into this combo should be played and come back. cheers. | |

And for the record, more games only means more farming, currently this arena system is made so that the more games you play the higher you will get. | I've been playing this comp for just as long as you. I am 2455 on BG9, this is said to be the most competitive battlegroup in the world. However I do not know the seriousness of yours. I updated a few strats because i did see flaws yes. I believe now they are all really good, Abour our record, the way I look at it priest/mage is such a high risk combo to run. Because there are teams that are simply devastating and very hard to beat. Playing 500 games shows that we are the best priest/mage on the BG because we can sustain a high rating no doubt. Other teams could have one good night and boom there 2420 but their skill levels are only half of what ours are. | Ret/Resto shaman is incredibly hard. You guys have to try to clump them up and land a fear on the ret and shaman w/o tremor. Try to nuke shaman. Besides these bursts on shaman put pressure onto ret. Don't burn shaman its useless. They will probably be on your mage and he will spike hella with purge =( | |

| Dirty, what's up man. Despite the problems we had in the past, I gotta give you some credit for being successful in this combo. It's nice to see a combo that's original and take some skills to play. Fuck I played this combo before lich king xp with another priest (Holybean) and we had some success back then but we just didn't have time to continue on with it. I think I played this combo with you a few times too didn't I? Anyway I got bored with wow and I am playing another game called Darkfall now. Good luck on getting glad, I am pretty sure you'll get it with that rating :P ps: I guess I underestimated your skills. I knew you were a good priest when we did arena in the beginning. But for some reason I chose to listen to that rogue and the mage in Defenestrate and didn't give u a chance. They did arena with u and told me u were not that good and I believed them at that time. I guess maybe we just didn't do that much games together for it to click. Anyway see u around...who knows I might come back to wow but that's unlikely gonna happen since I am having too much fun in Darkfall haha | |

| Honestly I disagree with alot of your strats, but that doesn't really mean they're wrong. I find it hard to think theres a "right strat" for priest/mage teams. we always generally went for healers, but you seem to go for dps alot more often. i think its just preference and what you're used to | |

| I sometimes spec Arcane 60-0-11 with about 600 resilience and it works pretty well. The amazing burst, shorter cooldowns and better mobile damage more than make up for the lower survivability. Armor switching is required depending on comps but with the right spec you have the tools to handle everything. I would definitely recommend that younger Mage/Priest teams stick with Frost, then move on depending on personal preference. Personally I am a big fan of Arcane gameplay. | |

| For one thing your wrong about only frost, we run arcane mage disc priest and it works just as well. I dont know about BG9 but on our Stormstrike we always have like 47 minute games vs warlock healer except for paladin which we usually end up killing the paladin. Your also wrong about mage rogue, whenever we see a mage with no buffs besides his own we shout in vent for joy, if the mage is good enough and the priest can pillar and swd good enough you should be fine. Also the priest doesnt need that much res, i have 817 and i dont have any trouble staying alive, while i have more sp for shields and heals. Although my arecane mage has around 900 resil. Also shaman hunter is not a scary comp for us at all either. | |

Killing a mage as arcane still seems retarded but who knows what type of shit you guys can do on your terrible BG. | what about arcane mage / disc priest? me and my buddy have gotten to around 2200 and weve only been playing for a week. i was just wondering why you think frost is better because as arcane i can survive very well, as well as pom sheep when needed and my burst damage is INSANE once we get our enemies to blow trinkets and we get our CCs ready. the only team we have trouble with are ones with warriors on them becuase of lolcharge, lolintercept, lolcharge, lolintercept, u get my drift. weve tried to fear the paladin, sheep the warrior, then blow up the paladin, but it is insanely hard to do with all of the other stuff going on. got any suggestions? | |

I actually neverlost to mage/priest comp... once soloed that comp. well they were awful but still... ended up doing more healing then priest.. vs comps that aim for pets i sugest getting an imp as 3rd pet.. just for SL helps healer out alot... However game can go on forever its basicly who ever gets board and exits arena first.. | |

| We are havin trouble with resto druid/sham ms warr...our win/loss ratio is like 35% against those teams. help! especially in the dally sewers arena, u can infinitely LOS and my mage ends up having to switch multiple times and then we run into mana issue and cant blow anyone up. any suggestions? we have been just holding off CDs until we get them in center then sheep warr fear shammy and i endup PI manaburning... besides that is there anything else that could help. those stupid shammy/druids never go oom. | |

| i just started playing this combo with a decent preist, we are having no issues climbing against most any team we are kinda low rated for just starting tho the big issue i was having with this combo is priest feral druid. When we play this team the druid sits on me while my preist attempts to burn theirs and get fears on druid so i can put pressure in as well, what is the correct strat for this team bc when i get 12k ferocious bite on me i just punch my wall and im rollin with about 660 resil. plus this combo is gonna be so baller with the ms on chilling effects. | |

| I play this setup at 2.2 on Rampage EU and DK/Druid doesnt seem to be too hard, considering most the players that run that comp seem to have no clue of what's going on. At the start I play very offensively against the DK, CSing the druid before a shatter and my priest assists on dps. After the CS my priest will hit a fear on the druid forcing trinket, if the DK doesn't die I start playing really defensively. Just sheeping and kiting the DK, and hopefully the DK will trinket a sheep. This means they've both used trinket so when you fear them both together it's easy to get a nuke on the druid ( as most druids won't have hots on themselves if you're focusing the DK ). And with assisted dps from me and my priest we normally down the druid. With a CS after the fear. Etc. | |

| oke Takuu, a basic guide line for 2k play.. lets say you get against decent DK/druid teams DK wont just be "shattered" he will pop EMS or gnaw you while trying to cast frostbolt.. the druid wich pre hotted him wont get feared by the priest cause travel form will prefent that.. therefor there wont be a trinket off the druid either "if the dk doesnt die i start playing really defensively" oke fine... DK running after you trying to mindfreeze your sheep, pet stunning you he might even skillgrip you or pop another EMS after sometime to prefent sheeps.. in the meantime the druid is back to full mana if he wasnt already.... you get your sheep off while the priest helps you to dispell the shit. nah.... the druid wont go oom, with a half decent dk and druid you wont get fears of that easy either and burst will be locked down by the DK OP'ness "If the dk has abit more skill then gnaw > death grip and the druid has more skill then "innervate > ??? let just forget barskin" you wont win tbh :) but a way to try it, rape the pet from the dk every time you see it, Deep Freeze the druid when you get a finger of frost proc, then let your priest go to the druid ( will be hard due to all the dk's peeling ) hope you can get a fear off and follow that by a counterspell on the druid if needed, while this happening you as mage pressure the DK pressure the dk.. all you basicly wanna do is get cooldowns of and hope that you can or at some point gib the DK wich is very unlikely or that you can catch the druid offguard with him and the dk no trinket left.. | |

| Dirtydawgs, at first i want to thank you for taking the time to make a guide, at second i do wanna tell/share something about the Priest/Rogue matchup im running PR myself and on 2.4-2.5k rating we've never lost to a mage/priest... either if the rogue goes for the priest or for the mage.. you will have a hard time im playing the rogue in my combo, and my priest just does 1 thing and thats spamm dispell on me and their priest... with the dispell spamm you will minimize the dmg from the mage and the slowing effects on the rogue.. and as rogue you can rather easy gib a priest..( im mostly going for the priest) especially if the priest throws in a dispell, does some dmg and pops shadowfeind after the priest popped fear The matches are mostly taking about a 2-3 min max cause even if my priest would not SWD the sheep, as rogue i can easy survive a couple of times.. trinket on DF, double vanish, a cloak.. even the possibilty to blind a frost shatter ( when you're not in a DF ) only way as Priest/Rogue you can lose is if or the priest just doesnt die, or your priest slacks on healing so the rogue gets gibbed, concidering the rogue doesnt pop cloak before his priest is cc'ed and he doesnt waste his vanish or wanks prep for an extra cold blood this will be very unlikely to happen :) | |

| Ok As I am a noob and can't seem to get a team past 1500 rating I have been reading every strat I can. These have been a lot of help. I am frost mage and my buddy is disc priest Both in a mix of deadly/tier 8+ gear. we die a LOT to rogue teams etc BUT my question is. How the fock can we beat a Resto druid/Lock team? The druid Uses LOS when he gets low and Heals up. the lock Uses fear when he gets low so the druid can heal him up. It seems no matter what we do they can outlast us. Plz help :) | |

| My partner and I are playing this comp with moderate success but we are having an incredibly hard time against Mage/Rogue. What happens is: We basically get into combat as quickly as possible so the rogue doesn't have a chance to sap us. Usually if there is a sap, I'm the one who'll get it (I'm the mage), and they open on my priest. If I don't trinket the sap, he'll end up dying. What I end up attempting to do here is a couple things, 1) Imp CS the mage then sheep twice in case he trinkets the first sheep, and, 2) Try to peel the rogue off of my priest with a Deep Freeze and/or sheep. Usually the rogue will end up trinketing the DF and pop CloS after that, preventing any further sheeps. The mage ends up Imp CSing me and then proceeds to sheep me afterwards. If I've eaten the sap (which doesn't happen very often), I usually end up CSing the first sheep, eating the second, and I save my Ice Block for the blind. Anyways, I usually get caught in a CC rotation of some sort, and my priest usually dies within the CloS. When we do win, we usually go for the rogue, and I try to cast only instants to prevent myself from being spell-locked. If they go for me (the Mage), we always win, but when they go for my priest, more often than not we lose. Our win percentage against this matchup is around 20-25%. Please help!!!!! Khadi | |

| Pynergy is Panico's alt, both priest's at 80 with nerd ratings. Abn is his 2s partner on his alliance priest, where they managed to get 2800 playing arcane mage/priest. You can read abn's pr0 strats which are basically: Kill X, CC Y. Dirtydawg don't listen to these guiz on teh internet, they are total trash. BTW I BET MY MAGE CAN BEAT ^ UR MAGE | |

| Hey ditrydawg Grz on the nice rating by the way :) Got a few questions playing mage/preist atm i play a 54/17 in 2v2 with smite glyph for extra dps. we having no problems vs druids/pally esp when with a warrior. but i seem to fail vs rogues esp mage rogue. i did read ur strat didint really get to try it out yet. but was wondring if u had any really nice survival tips vs rogue coz they just seem to F**K me over all the damn time lol.... i try save cds fear as much as pos but dose not seem to work my gear is not amazing but its not bad got like 900 res and 2250 sp anyway would be nice if u can give me some pointers thx :) *power to the priest* | |

| I have only started last week with disc/frost mage and we went 7-4 up, but we struggle big time against resto shammy/ret or resto shammy/dk - i'm getting shocked big time while they go to town on my mage, and we manage to take down the shammy eventually and it usually ends up with me versus the dk or ret, which i can last until their trinket cd is up mostly with shield/fear/dots and drinking but cant get them down - only 1900sp though - any strats against rsham/dps would be good or do you not come across many at your awesome rating - cheers Baldi | |
