Druid/Warrior

VS.

Mage/Rogue

This can be a tricky fight. A well played combo will try to CC your Warrior and kill the Druid. Second Wind will be crucial here because of Frost Nova. You will almost entirely be focused on killing the Rogue and he will pop everything he can to get away from you or CC you. If he gets out of melee range or he vanishes you need to immediately cast Piercing Howl. Almost certainly you will need to save your trinket for the Rogue's Blind unless they are trying to focus you down. If they focus the Warrior...you absolutely need to get out of nova as quickly as possible or Ice Lance spam/stuns will kill you. The Druid should have Nature's Swiftness ready to go in the event you get too low and should be poison cleansing and throwing Lifebloom/Rejuv as much as possible during the fight. Also, don't forget to equip sword and board and go def stance if you start taking too much damage. If you ever get a chance to two shot the water elemental pet...take it. It helps a lot. Once the Rogue is dead, it's a simple fight.

keep both targets hamstrung, and be ready when your druid pops out to switch back to a 2h and lay some pain on your target.

Warriors being focused... dont stand in one spot! Use LoS, make the mage keep having to adjust. The water elemental and mage should be pretty easy to LoS. Pole hump them!

If youre on blades edge, jumping off the bridge (Make sure your druid jumps first) and then pole humping a pillar is a good tactic.

Also - disarm the rogue, since you have to be in defensive anyway. Thunderclap and Demo shout also since you will have a ton of rage and need to blow it on something while the rogue is evading, and you are being focused.

Focus the rogue first. Frostbite and frost nova will rape you as a warrior. Once he blows both evasions, and the mage is low on mana, its time to put a hurting on the rogue. Once again, keep the fight as mobile as possible, so the Mage still cant plant his feet and tee off.
MithgarMar 21, 2008 - 11:33 AM (HideShow)
My biggest problem (as a warrior) is that i get dps'd enough right at the start that my druid has to pop out right away. (Maybe sword/board from the beginning would help?) From that moment, it's sheep->sheep->sheep->frost nova->Frost Nova->Blind->Sheep->sheep->sheep

The most I can do is trinket out of one of the early CC's, and if i'm lucky, get an intercept on the rogue, then hamstring him and continue to get CC'd. Once the focus shifts to my druid i'm completely rage starved. And if the mage is decent and I try to reflect a polymorph, he'll just throw an Ice Lance out and then re cast poly.

I hate this setup the most because I can do everything in my power, play at 150% and still not be able to do anything to prevent my druid from dying.
HeatrowMar 24, 2008 - 5:32 PM (HideShow)
mage/rogue actually imo is a setup that to win needs to have big luck on procs. when everything procced (mostly moongose, executioner, spell cast buffs) and alot of other stuff will give them a big potential to nuke any target down, even a warrior or druid, doesn't matter. what matters here for u to win is whenever ur in frost nova pop the spellreflect macro (if u dont have one u can check the macro's page to get it) and change back to ur 2h when ur full healed, also if u focus on the rogue remember to be in battle stance whenever he dodges to do an overpower - this is a very strong spell cuz usually u get a crit with this and they have no way to heal, 2 or 3 overpowers mostly when theyr in evasion is a way to put them at like 30% rest mortal strike etc, cheat death will make them save 3 secs to burst u alot more if theyr focusing on u, dont do any spell while he has cheat death cuz its a waste of rage mostly the execute that consumes all ur rage, save it for when he has no cheat death. remeber this setup can win or loose agaisnt u depending on theyr luck, also theyr the combo with + cc on this game so get rdy to be polymorphed all the time if they focus on the druid.

I agree with Mithgar...i can play my best and i just cannot beat this team, their burst is way too much for my druid to handle...and i get cced like a level 1 warrior because i cant do anything to the other team
SolauricaApr 1, 2008 - 3:17 AM (HideShow)
Ok, here are some tips for this combo, my warrior and I get pretty enough in rating that we very rarely even face this team anymore and when we do we win like 4/5 times.

When the fight starts, the mage and the warrior go 1v1 OR the warrior can run around looking for the rogue avoiding the mage. The rogue is looking for the druid but the druid isn't trying to avoid the rogue. The druid’s main objective is to be out of line of sight of the mage so that even if the rogue pops you, the mage can't nuke you right away.

Now a couple of different things will happen:

The warrior 1v1s with the mage, if the mage sheeps the warrior right away this is good, the DR on sheep start going down while you are still safe is stealth. If the warrior starts getting nuked there is a very important way to heal him: When he gets to about 70%, you abolish poison and HoT YOURSELF, then start Hoting your warrior.

Now the rogue will pop you or think that they can burn down the warrior and pop him instead. If he goes for the warrior (bad choice) it's pretty easy, burn mana on keeping 3 stack lifebloom and rejuv along with any other full hots that you can. The warrior should be with the shield on if he is below 60%, and a good warrior will intervene to the druid when the rogue starts running to the druid (the blind him and continue dps on warrior). The intervene will absorb the blind as it is a physical ability. The warrior should be on the rogue, while trying to los the mage. ABOLISH POISON is super important in this fight, just as important as lifebloom and rejuv, you have to keep it up on the warrior or it's over. The mage will run oom before you do from healing and your warrior once topped off, will got 2 hander/zerker and kill the rogue.

That covers what won't usually happen. Now, If instead after hoting yourself and the warrior up they do the smart thing:

Now the mage will sheep the warrior, if he sheeped him the earlier stages of the match 1v1 he'll find the DR will hurt him. The rogue will pop the druid (Who should already be ho
SolauricaApr 1, 2008 - 3:18 AM (HideShow)
Hmmm, got cut off... lame. anywho:

druid (Who should already be hotted and abolished). Now the druid has to do everything in his power to LOS mage. Keep abolish and 3 stacks of lifebloom up at all times. The warrior has to do his very best to be on the rogue. It's very important to understand that the warrior is NOT NOT NOT trying to kill the rogue. There should be no MS on the rogue and you should not be doing dmg to the rogue to kill it, your only concern is SLOWING it down. Hamstring, piercing howl (EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE when they vanish, sprint, ect.), intercept, and intervene if your intercept is on cooldown (the druid is near the rogue at all times anyway so you can intervene to get to the rogue and take some dmg for the druid).

Now this is what your warrior is TRYING do. In reality it’s more like choosing one of those abilities I just named at random, and being able to do it once every like 30 seconds. He will be getting sheeped ENDLESSLY. Important part of playing a warrior with a druid is patience! Important part of the strat against this team is getting up, making yourself a sandwich and getting something to drink, because the sheeps will not stop.
SolauricaApr 1, 2008 - 3:18 AM (HideShow)
. If you can, get a spell reflect up and sheep the mage, although most good mages won’t fall for it. Anyway, basically when ever you can, slow the rogue and help your druid get away. Now I know what you’re asking “But Sol, this won’t kill any of them! When do we go for the kill?” Again, be patient. Once the druid get’s away, stay hotted and abolished and the rogue will be out of cooldowns and the mage out of mana, now the warrior can get his 2 hander out and get to work on the rogue, keeping him controlled still, but throwing in the damage. With the mage oom and the rogue out of cool downs, you should have no problem taking them out.

Ok, we are not done though, still more things to cover with this combo. First off, be careful of a prep/coldsnap, both of their cooldowns are pretty much reset and they can burn one of you down mighty fast, keep the hots up at all times and don’t let wound poison stack up.
SolauricaApr 1, 2008 - 3:19 AM (HideShow)
Ok, next is worst case scenario, the rogue finds you in stealth. Like I stated, you should be out of los of the mage during the start of the fight. If the rogue pops you while you are out of line of sight, it’s not as bad, you can get some hots off before the mage starts hammering you (after sheeping the warrior of course). Now a good rogue will call out the he sees you but will not pounce. Now the mage sheeps the warrior and comes over to where you are, then the rogue pops you, and the mage is right there ready to punish you into the dirt. If you see the mage sheeping the warrior and running your way, it’s usually a sure sign that the rogue sees you, so hot yourself up as best you can while trying to los the mage before that rogue pops you. Stick to that pillar like it’s white on rice to avoid mage dmg and go back into running while the warrior does his best to be on the rogue. When the rogue finds you first without hots is the reason many of you are saying that the druid cant handle the dmg burn, which is why it is very important that you stay out of los of the mage and hope the rogue does not see you or pops the warrior first. Like any double dps team, the longer you survive the better your odds or, so don’t get angry or discouraged if during the first 30 seconds of the fight it looks hopeless, survive as best as you can and you’ll see the odds turn in your favor in about 1 or 2 minutes.
SolauricaApr 1, 2008 - 3:19 AM (HideShow)
Notes:
Don’t barkskin when he rogue locks down unless you know you are about to get shatter combo, the rogue is simply trying to keep you stunned while the mage does the real dmg.

If you see that the rogue is well controlled and your druid is topped off, you can intercept and 3 shot the mage pet, and intervene back to your druid to help him with the rogue.

Abolish poison is so very important in this fight, I can’t stress this enough!

I’m sure I missed some things so ask any questions please and I’ll try to answer them as best as possible.

Fight starts; go for mage till rogue pops out; druid heals you once they start dpsing you to get him out; mage sheeps, mage sheeps, mage sheeps, mage frost novas, rogue blinds...How the F do you win this f-ing fight. Trinketing out of sheep gets you sheeped again. Spell reflecting sheep results in a sheep as soon as the mage is out, or he will trink out and sheep you before you can get rage or spell reflect up again. Either way he is gonna get 3 sheeps off and rock your druid. I CANNOT...CANNOT beat a damn rogue/mage team for the life of me, and they are the only teams we get more than twice in arena. Tonight I lost over a 100 rating points to that team. 19, 17, 15 to one team, then 18 to another, and those were the bad ones. Everytime I ALMOST kill the rogue, then druid dies; I get sheeped, rogue runs and bandages, and its over from there.
I am currently an axe warrior. I am paying someone to get me to 1850, because I can't find any good partners. Me and him own pretty much everything except for rogue/mage. I am so frustrated and I don't know what to do...if there IS anything I can do. I got 4/5 veng, all the vind, both rings, the good trink, and battlemaster. I got top gear, cept for s2 shoulders and crappy Bloodmoon.
How the hell can I kill rogue/mage? Is it all the druid? I intervene, I intercept rogue, and keep him snared, but the rogue dies eventually. 3 sheeps, frost nova, and blind gives them plenty of time to own the druid. The druid has good gear, and was 1850 prior to joining me.
WailocMay 2, 2008 - 2:51 AM (HideShow)
I also disarm the rogue when I am able to run behind him for more than 2 seconds. Each time the rogue is >10%, but the druid dies.
LiekaMay 10, 2008 - 10:08 AM (HideShow)
It's kinda hard to determine when you play against a Mage/Rogue setup.

But here is a BIG trick you can use.

If you are an engineer, make the rocket boots, when a mage casts Polyrmoph on you, use the boots. The boots hit you for 200 ish damage after the effect is gone, and breaks the Poly, setting it on DR as well, making the next sheep 4 seconds.
KithkinMay 30, 2008 - 5:26 PM (HideShow)
Heres a neat trick that myself and my warrior use on this combo and most other dual stealth teams. At the beginning of the game when you come out of the spawn, if you don't see anything on track humanoid and think that its going to be mage/rogue, start out in bear behind a pillar and have your warrior stack on top of you and do everything he can to stay LOS of the mage (the reason for this is because: their whole tactic is to catch you with cheap shot in humanoid, and if they do it is 9 times out of 10 gg). The only danger to using this is that the mage will start on you and the rogue won't pop until you have to come out to heal or have to T form away. But most of the time the rogue will immediately pop on you with the cheap shot, and you won't have to blow trinket on the KS (which is very important if you think you can get away with it).
DokterplantsJun 22, 2008 - 3:21 PM (HideShow)
I'd have to disagree. The way to fight this team would probably be to have the druid hide somewhere where the warrior can intercept if the druid gets caught; don't stack up because then your obviously going to be found.... If they open up on your warrior stay far enough from the rogue so that he can't shadowstep to you, if he does just have your warrior intercept and run. just outlast them and feral charge shatters and fake CS

i know i shouldnt be doing this, but im gona to give u guys a hand, i played with my rogue in S2/S3 up to 2.1k rating fighting and living off this convo (Rogue/mage Vs Druid/war) So ill explain in detail what we do.
My rogue is human (otherwise they get kicked from the team lol), usually we start off in both invisiblity, Rogue will shout on TS what combo, (can tell by war's buffs) rogue will then sprint past warrior, sap him (some warrior's stay in sap, others berserk out) i watch the rogue's energy fluctiations and cancel invisiblity when this happends, rogue finds druid, and we do a pre-emptive attack on the druid. involving a shatter combo if druid is in good stun position, if not a few instants, (if warrior is still in sap, ill sheep over) if he's in berserker ill nova, if he trinkets rogue will blind, and ill scilence over his kidny, rogue wil lvanish and garrote, and then frost shatter combo (for around 4.6k-6k dmg) and bring the druid down, if druid doesnt go down, ill sheep over the blind, rogue wil lget out of combat and sap, we'll restart the nuke on the druid. However, if the druid runs away from the warrior too far, we'll take the warrior down and ill put myself between the druid and the warrior, and when hes sprinting too the warrior, ill throw a scilence on him, as he trys to unform, and hopefully finish the warrior with a quick shatter combo. IF that doesnt work, or i see the warrior cant be finished in that duration. ill sheep the druid to buy some time, and have the rogue blind the druid, keeping the warrior in a nova.

if u see mage casting polymorph.
you can try to intervane the druid so if the druid gets attacked u will get out polymorph. it somethimes helps with a good macro
NumbJul 22, 2008 - 4:19 AM (HideShow)
Ok. at first playing warrior druid i had tons of problems with this team a good mage rogue can still beat us sometimes shatter combo's are so important to dodge, ALWAYS! fight on a pillar vs this team get ur druid to run around the pillar and u LOS the polymorphs wen the rogue is low u GOTTA KEEP hammy and SPAM piercing he is gonan try to vanish and eat to full! if this happens forsure ur gonna lose so wen hes low do ur dmg but keep shouts UP and if u want u can throw a rend up for safe measures after rogues gone its a piece of cake good luck!
GustorJul 26, 2008 - 3:29 PM (HideShow)
how can you possibly win against mage rogue when they do the following:

rogue and mage opens on warrior
warrior goes down to 50% in max 4 seconds, im already popped and hotting up
rogue blinds me
i HAVE to trinket or i get sapped and warrior is EASILY downed before even sap most times
now i trinket, rogue vanishes, cheap shot gouge kidney shot and by the 6 sec kidney mage have sheeped warrior and is unloading shatter combo, this usually gets me down to 0 with a timed counterspell and i cant even use instant heal or hp trinket.
FackJul 31, 2008 - 7:20 PM (HideShow)
start in bear, and pillar hump. pay attention to enemy timers. having a trinket up when you are in a full kidney and a mage in LOS of you is key. eat a full kidney in bear, apply NG to make him cloak then bash him. the rogue will most likely vanish and reopen on you. at which point it would be smart to spam travel and abolish with a few hots here and there, it doesn't matter if you are at 30% with abolish the rogue will never kill you with full hots on you. your warrior should be eating every sheep, if you can't stay alive and LOS a mage who has to sit there and cast on you for 2.5 seconds i dont know what else to say. barkskin if you get shattered. don't leave bear unless the rogues stuns are on cooldown. its just about timing. druids have the keys to stay alive and with the overpowered LOS we use in arenas theres no way any mage rogue team can kill you without absurd RNG. i don't see how people have so much trouble with this comp....we never lose to it. ever.
KroniczAug 10, 2008 - 3:35 PM (HideShow)
Pilar hump is a must. Keep both mage and rogue Hamstrung. When the rogue KS, Disarm him. Try to shield reflect a sheep if you can. If the mage Trinkets, Cyclone. Stay sword and board when the mage and rogue can attack your warrior. Shield block + Shield reflect. Stay Def for the burst. LOS the mage. Interven also, If you do get the rogue out of stealth its just about GG. Keep both mage and rogue slowed the whole fight.
WaizAug 19, 2008 - 10:41 AM (HideShow)
Well impossible to win tbh. The mage will just have the warrior under control the whole match, and while his dpsing ur warrior down the rogue will just start of with a sap then cheap shot, kidney shot, vanish, sap again and the same again so after that ur warrior will be down... thats what happend to us..
MissclickAug 30, 2008 - 8:54 PM (HideShow)
ive only recently started playing with a warrior but one thing that i found was pro was when i prehot myself, my warr intervenes and so if i get cheapshot while hotting he takes it. situational but just putting it out there =)
IcecrusherSep 18, 2008 - 12:42 PM (HideShow)
Well, I myself play MR, and although it is possible to beat WD its definately getting harder now. Now in s4 we seem to be at a point, where druids tend to just live through The first few combos we put out, then the druid has pretty easy time staying alive until we decide to go for the next initiative.
But if the druid is actually smart enough to stay a little back it will often happen, that I'm not in position for a shatter combo yet, and the rogue's stun goes to waste, as do the DR on the warrior. A rogue is seriously no match for a MSwarrior, and will lose tons of hp, if the warrior is on DR or has some pillar betweeen me and the warrior.
Basically its just that I CC the warrior, and then we DPS down the druid, but lately the druid gear has become so insane, and the warrior will in reality actually get off 1 or 3 shots on the rogue with trinket, or some unattended cyclone on me and we are worn down and outlasted as stated above. Thats just what I am experiencing now.
ZavianOct 11, 2008 - 2:11 PM (HideShow)
Maybe it's just me, but this seems to be one of the most difficult combos to fight as a warrior/druid. A big trick I've picked up is to Intervene your druid shortly after the match starts, a lot of rogues don't notice it and sometimes you can absorb the Cheap Shot. If you can do that, it instantly puts the ball in your court.
