General Information

People ask me all the time about tips and tricks for Druid/Warrior. Theres just so much to write, and they ask so often so I have to write it out over and over. So, to save myself time, I just wrote this guide.

This was made because people asked me for what I did. There are a lot of different and better ways to play against matchups, so don't take what I have written as the holy grail. Question me, call me a bad druid, or that I'm playing wrong, if you think so. This is what what we did in our matchups.

Credentials: I first started doing 2v2 last season when I came back to the game after quitting for about 8 months due to school. I found a Warlock, and we got to 2350++ before he stopped playing. I, however, loved doing arenas, so I found an old priest friend who just had his warrior hit 70 a few weeks before. Now, he was pretty much the best Priest I knew back in the day, and he is AMAZING at the Warrior class, but he didn't have much gear. (<3 compensating) When we started, he had Deep Thunder and only 3 pieces of Merciless Gladiator, lacking the 4 piece Intercept bonus. Regardless of that, we got to 2325 in about 2 days, and finished there for Gladiator. When Season 3 started, we were the first team to get to 1850 and 2000 on our Battlegroup/Server, beating fully decked out Black Temple Druid/War, Pal/War, and double dps teams, despite my Warrior only having Deep Thunder/4 pieces of Merc when S3 started(he picked up the 4th piece the last week of season 2). We have only lost 1 mirror match, due to a major lag spike.

Right Now I team hop a lot to get my friends Weapons and Shoulders on 2s/3s. So don't just go 'LOLADVICEAT1600RATINGS'. Also, my real 2v2 will not show up on my armory. Right now I am rated #1 on my Battlegroup, and have been since the season began.

Druid/Warrior is a very strong combo. The premise lies in its ability to survive and outlast almost any team while having a lot of versatility and survivability. The key to these matches is patience. Your Warrior will be doing a lot of damage, but Burst-Gib dps teams only work with a double DPS setup, so be prepared to outlast any team.

Basic overall Druid ideals:

Stay mobile and stick close to a pillar. A Druid that stands still is a Druid who is vulnerable to any number of CC/interrupts that can screw you over. Stick to your HoTs, and always be on the move to stay out of your enemy's Line of Sight. You should never, ever stand still except when you're casting Cyclone and Roots, always be trying to gain better positioning on pillars so you can break LOS if they decide to turn to you. Regrowth should almost never be used except on very rare occasions (You baited a Counterspell and your partner is below 50% life and taking heavy damage, for example).

Terminology:

DR's=Diminishing returns
RNG=Random number generator. Basically the % that you'll get a proc. Usually used with mace stun/fear breaks, sometimes it'll happen all the time, sometimes it'll proc 3 times in a row/last 10 seconds, sometimes it won't proc at all/break immediately.
Pillar humping=Where you run around in a circle on a pillar, going to opposite direction the other teams players are going, so you avoid LOS/getting hit. Both you and your partner need to learn how to do this.

Random things:

Blades edge drinking with pets: Get up top on the bridge, and jump down. The pet will have to path around the sides of the arena and then get to you, and you can get a few ticks in before it hits you. Cycloning/Rooting/banishing/fearing the pet up top means you can get a lot of extra ticks in.

Always use rank 1 roots to cast. Roots itself will not last more than 10 seconds in pvp, which is less than the first rank of roots. It's 100 mana less for the same effect. If you use rank 1 roots, make sure to use rank 1 Nature's grasp, or you'll get the "a more powerful effect is already active" message, and be unable to recast roots until nature's grasp ends.

Builds

Druid

I go 8/11/42.

While I feel that Insect Swarm builds (13/11/37) will be very strong, they are not my playstyle. I am a very, very defensive player, and losing the +heal from Empowered Rejuv and the other talents that you can choose is not worth it, at least to me. I can avoid LOS enough to where I don't need the extra range on Cyclone and Roots, although I can really see it helping, especially for new Druids. Don't be afraid to try the Insect Swarm build, you may really like it better for your play style.

Absoloutely stunning guilde, major kudos to you. I learnt so much from it, even though I play the warrior in the combo.

Only hunter / druid is missing, is that planned? Most tips on fighting hunter priest also apply and do help out though.

***** and thankx for the guide
DarkalphaJan 31, 2008 - 4:40 AM (HideShow)
Yeah, I originally planned on writing it once I had more experience with druid/hunter so I could write a better review, but then Therst got me writing for his guide and I got distracted. I hope to get around to it later this week.

could you maybe write something about hunter/druid or hunter/pally? those teams seems to give us the most trouble
EmergeFeb 4, 2008 - 4:40 AM (HideShow)
Yes, Dark could you add Hunter/Shaman and Hunter/Drood?
KatsuroFeb 5, 2008 - 2:33 PM (HideShow)
Best thing I have found with Hunter/Druid - Hunter/Pally is pretty much hump the Hunter. Keep in his melee range and force the healer to try and out do your DPS. Druid should be in bear form to avoid Drains, eat traps and CC. Bash/Root if you can on the Hunter to keep him in your Warriors striking range. Don't forget to kill the pet!! If you can toss a low rank Faerie Fire, Moonfire, IS on the druid to keep him in combat to avoid drinks.

Seems to be the best thing working for us right now on Hunter/Healer teams.
JabokahFeb 13, 2008 - 6:39 PM (HideShow)
against hunter/non-druid healer the warrior should have no problem staying on the hunter but against hunter/druid this is almost impossible to do between scatter shot/trap, root, imp. wingclip. Also imp. revive pet is just broken (at least together with hunter/druid CCs)

Rogue/Rogue plz?
TrypticFeb 22, 2008 - 3:13 PM (HideShow)
How do you beat warrior/warlock? They usually just split me from my warrior, and then it ends up in us dying. Do you just have our warrior follow theirs around, and we try to los the warlock as best we can?

WTB Hunter/Druid please. I've tried following a lot of the suggestions from Hunter/Priest, but they lack the CC of a druid which really changes the fight around. This is really the only combo that consistently are giving me and my buddy trouble and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We are having trouble with Ice mage/Rogue. I like the guide the only thing I didn't see in there was anything about Shadowstep. Seems Like every Rogue has it now. I was wondering if your guide was written pre 2.3 when it was added. and if you might add somthing for for it from a druid POV.
Thanks

So DA is gone now btw, he left for Boot Camp and then on to the Navy. If you have any questions feel free to hop on Gorgonnash and look for me on Compensating or Perrindoif. Other teams we played to Rank 1 in other brackets were War/Ret/Druid and War/SlSl/Druid/Priest/Pally if you have any questions on those.
CompensatingMar 24, 2008 - 7:50 PM (HideShow)
Heh just noticed DA never put in druid/hunter. While DA actually didn't agree with me on how to do this, we never really played against druid/hunter when we were together on 2s. DA would say to sit on hunter pet mostly, but I never really found this to work against good druid/hunters. So the strategy I have stuck to is a targeting priority of Druid>Pet>Hunter. Basically the warrior tries to stay on druid as much as possible (to reduce cc) with your druid in bearform 90% of the game, helping you stay with the druid/hunter druid. Games can go forever, and if your druid ever gets low on mana, just sit on the pet/hunter and get your druid drink time. Eventually you will get lucky and their druid will die, or you will run him oom since you're both trying to sit on him.

Really the key to winning this game is little tricks and being as efficient as possible, here is a brief list of tricks:

SR (Spell Reflecting) Traps and Nature's Grasp (along with the obvious cyclones when you can)

Intervening your druid to get better position, hopefully to get you in intercept range of their druid.

Taunting the hunter pet to get poisons on you. I use all my taunts against this team because with a poison on me I'm immune to scatter and trap. Note: The best time to Taunt a pet is when he has been away from your druid for longer than 5 secs, because then you know the poisons isn't on Cooldown and he will immediately apply poison.

Use your longer taunts (mocking and shout) when you get in a 10 sec entangle so that you can attack the pet in the meantime. This will also get poisons applied to you as described above.

Druid in Bear form eating Traps and helping the warrior stay on druid by charging entangles or cyclone. Also, cyclone the druid if your warrior gets cycloned (or hibernate if possible)

After a few games as druid/War trying to sit on the druid in druid/hunter your team will become a lot better at coordinating feral charges/cyclones/intercepts/charges/intervening/pummels/etc. Becoming better at this will actually
CompensatingMar 24, 2008 - 7:56 PM (HideShow)
make you a lot better at mirrors, where its a little more intense.
Basically your druid will become a lot better at understanding when the warrior needs help to get to hit target.

Lastly, if the druid clean gets away, just do a quick swap to the pet (who I often attack when their druid hits bear form) to bring the druid back.

If you have no other options just attack the hunter, to make him need heals and hopefully bring the druid back.

That's all I can think of ATM, gl.
VoqueMar 26, 2008 - 1:11 AM (HideShow)
I believe the alternative to this strategy against Hunter/Druid is to attack the pet first. This makes the druid heal the Hunters pet making it so he either has to waste a ton of mana healing the pet which is squishy...or let the pet die which allows your druid to get away and drink. I'm not going to get into detail but that is the basics of it.
LaraonApr 5, 2008 - 11:30 PM (HideShow)
So far, the most foolproof way to win hunter.druid that we've found is to just sit on the hunter together.

Sitting on their druid seems to expose my druid to way too much damage since the hunter is free to fill my druid with his projectile of choice.

Also, one little trick we found~if their druid goes to drink, immediately switch to the pet and hit it hard and fast...the druid will have to come back and heal or risk losing the pet...and that's an enormous advantage for the warrior.druid team.

Sitting on the hunter isn't really fast, but you'll never die. It's more of a "we're waiting for you to mess up because we know we'll never lose" strategy from our perspective.
CompensatingApr 6, 2008 - 7:19 AM (HideShow)
Different strategies will work for different gear. The strategy I gave only really works if your druid is full geared, and can take hunter dps in bear form for a decent amount of time. Sitting on hunter or hunter pet doesn't really work against the top teams since this leads to a near perm CC on the warrior. I however do agree it's a great way to help your druid get more mana if he falls behind in the race at some point.
However, especially after the movespeed nerf, stick on the druid has become a very easy strat to execute. This strat if used correctly eliminates nearly all the cc on the warrior, and ensures the other druid doesn't drink. Obviously it doesn't always go perfectly as planned, but good to have a plan to start with.
LaraonApr 7, 2008 - 5:33 PM (HideShow)
Yeah, as you said, the druid has to be fully geared...unfortunately, mine isn't. :(
(He hit 70 in January) We're compensating in a lot of ways because he just can't take the abuse a 5/5 Vengeful druid can...

And, as you said, against the top teams I'd be perma-CC'd, but as it is, we're only around 2000, give or take a bit, until the druid gets more gear.

When I play with a different druid friend of mine, who IS 5/5 Vengeful (our server has like 3 good druids, including mine) I can attack the druid, and change my normally defensive strategy into one that is much more aggressive, and I love it.
DrazhApr 15, 2008 - 10:23 PM (HideShow)
Compensating, your tips are golden, I really encourage any Druid/Warrior to try them out. Having the pet poison break scatter / freezing and cutting games from 30min + to 10 min is awesome ;) the hunter does 0 DPS to my druid, and if he decides to hit me, I can make good use of the rage ^^ Just have to polish our coordination on keeping the druid in range. Thanks for the input

ChippedhornApr 17, 2008 - 2:31 AM (HideShow)
Been having a ton of trouble with druid warlock and to a lesser degree pally warlock recently. I can beat the 2 fellhunters, but as soon as a VW comes out we may as well throw in the towel. Even with a 5 stack of sunders and battleshout up the warlock just keeps taking the beating while I eat dots. Seems every good druid has a lifebloom tickin on the VW too keep it from going down to SL damage, what then? I switch to the druid and it just seems impossible to stay on them as is, much less with a warlock fearing me everytime BR is on cooldown. Their druid is free to drink all day, while if mine tries to run away to drink their warlocks just turns to me and starts nuking me down with either drain life or immolate/searing pain spam. These guys just seem to have the answer to everything. Any suggestions?

Disc Priest/Enhancement Shaman. I have no idea what to do against this comp qq.
VaxxMay 12, 2008 - 7:51 AM (HideShow)
How does dreamstate spec work for this set up?
ThunderaceMay 14, 2008 - 1:21 PM (HideShow)
@Vaxx: It doesn't work too well because 2dps teams get to hard without swiftmend, healer + 1 dps get easyer but you can beat them without dreamstate too.

Against Hunter/Druid just have your druid los a lot and stay in bear almost the whole match, try to pick up the traps and try to help your partner with controling the druid when he's on the hunter or not getting charged by the druid if he's on the druid and cc the hunter.

Just don't get into caster form too often when you got a viper sting on you.
EverzMay 17, 2008 - 10:23 AM (HideShow)
@Primitive

Play it like Rogue/Dpriest. Warrior on the priest, druid CCing the enh shaman. The other team has no MS, and a druid should always outlast a priest in healing by far as long as mana burns are prevented. Furthermore, enh shamans have absolutely no disarm protection. One disarm = 10 seconds where shaman will be doing close to nothing, and this happens every minute. Should be laughably easy.

XorkoJun 18, 2008 - 5:38 AM (HideShow)
This match can be really hard for any of them. a good rogue/druid will get on the druid and keep warrior cced, the warrior might keep the rogue hamstring and everything but still... its the best you can do. the druid on the druid/rogue team will drink every time the warrior is cced in a 10sec roots or blind. although the rogue will probably save blind for a preasure occasion when hes almost dead or his druid is drinking. If the rogue/druid try to kill the warrior it will be very tough, it can be done tho. if u get a nice cyclone sap blind sap(5sec sap), it should be more than enough to kill a warrior. but its tough because most druids will trinket blind and nothing else. just get on the rogue the whole time and try to keep ur druid drinking the whole match. its prtty much killing the rogue in a fear cyclone cyclone cyclone and hybernate on the druid if possible. Tell ur druid to use hybernate and ff on both rogue and druid.Another strat would be get the druid oom by getting on the rogue the whole match and concentrating on not letting the druid on the druid/rogue team drink, as soon as the druid goes oom intercept him when hes in caster form and make ur druid go fully offensive, bash, pounce fear intercept once more and cc the rogue as much as possible during this time. u might get a kill off. but you have to time everything well and KEEP THE ROGUE CCED DURING THIS TIME, with fear cyclone cyclone roots roots cyclone roots and some hamstrings on him. if u hamstring the rogue and ambolish poison ur warrior the war will get on the druid way easier. it is a rare strat but its still an option.
XorkoJun 18, 2008 - 5:41 AM (HideShow)
It can be very easy or very hard depending on the druid/rogue team you get. although a fair match and both teams being good, rogue/druid will probably win this.

MaraiahJul 22, 2008 - 3:52 PM (HideShow)
I've played on several Hunter/Priest teams, and have always been lucky with good Hunters. A lot of Druid/Warrior teams go after our pet first, and we simply resurrect it, so you're right there.

You're strategy is about right against crappy Hunters but honestly, a good Hunter will have their way with you, and usually get Scare Beast off when they want to. This is especially true if the Priest knows when and where to fear. As a Priest, I often run up to the Druid, wait for him to start healing, then fear and mana burn spam. Or if I really need the Hunter to get a scare beast off, I'll fear the Druid and then he'll Scare Beast the Druid. He usually Feign Death before he uses Scare Beast, it really helps. A good Hunter will ice trap the Warrior when he wants to and the Druid won't be able to eat it.

With the pet and the Priest keeping a watchful eye on the Druid it will be hard to drink.

We rarely lose to Druid/melee. Druid/Shaman is the only Druid combo that gives us a hard time.
GannonJul 24, 2008 - 8:28 PM (HideShow)
I played druid hunter all last season and got to 2300. We won against almost all druid warrior comps but the very top warrior teams gave us a lot of trouble. Main things that made a difference was the druid needed to los while the warrior hamstring the hunter, its imparative to los the hunter when you pop out to heal otherwise you will get bashed and they will get almost a full drain. going for the pet is fine if the pet is on the druid so you can los the hunter's dps also. whenever you see scare beast cast taunt the pet because most likely he will scatter and trap the the warrior right after. If you happen to still get frozen (ie resist taunt or you get scattered and then feared then trap) just alternate trinket and go for the druid. Usuauly at this time the druid will try to drink durring the double cc. If it weren't for the fact the druid can easily drink from a double cc every 30 seconds your druid should win the mana fight. so if you stop the double cc and stop his drinking u should be able to oom there druid before you get oom. It's very tempting to use trinket on a bash when you get drain but if your having a hard time with traps its usualy best to save it. on most maps if you need a drink your warrior can hamstring the hunter and charge the pet and hamstring him also taunting him after you drink(for you ne so you can stealth). Any more info i could give ya would be basic stuff to do ie keep faerie fire on the druid and hunter so they can't shadowmeld drink(if NE)and that if you feel safe on using mana you can faerie fire the pet and dps him and if the druid shadowmeld drink yoru best target is the pet for those gibs or draw out druid faster
