General Information

Restoration Druid/Rogue may be seem to be a weak team at first, but it can be one of the strongest combinations in 2v2 when you put in the time to work on coordination and strategy.

One of the main strengths is the fact that both of these classes have huge amounts of control that can be used to take an opponent of out combat for large chunks of the match. Another is their ability to re-stealth mid match if things are not going well.

Killing pets is a crucial strategy that must be used against certain teams. Hunter and Warlock teams are extremely hard to beat and often mean killing their pets multiple times during a match. Matches can go on for 15+ minutes; meaning bring a lot of water and flash powder for each game (I've easily used 30 water in one single match).

Even against the toughest teams this combo still has a chance if played perfectly to pull out the victory. Which makes this team very strong in a constantly changing player vs. player environment.

With practice and good knowledge of your class, it is easy to become very competitive with this elusively fierce setup.

Strengths
  • Huge amounts of CC.
  • Re-stealthing.
  • Large amounts of mobility.
  • Overpowered cool downs.
Weaknesses
  • Leather armor makes you weak to heavy melee teams.
  • Pretty weak to very well played double DPS teams with Rogues.
  • Fairly hard learning curve.
Note: As a general rule, having a Human Rogue on your time is preferred. Being able to open on other Rogues and Druids is priceless.

Builds

Druid

8/11/42 - This standard spec is very good. It gives feral charge, strong healing talents, and Control of Nature. Not a lot of offensive power but good for survivability. I would recommend this spec to new Restoration Druids.

11/11/39 - This has both survivability and a bit of offensive power with Insect Swarm. It loses a few decent Restoration talents such as one point in Empowered Rejuvenation, but it is my personal choice since I believe a strong offensive for the Druid at crucial moments in a match can make the difference between winning and losing.

13/11/37 - This spec is often used for strong offensive spell casting and long range CC. This spec includes Nature's Reach which allows you to Cyclone 20% farther away. It also helps to DPS from farther away. The negative effect is that you must lose a decent amount of points in Restoration talents, making people who have low amounts of healing already, even more gimped.Recommended for veterans only.

34/0/27
This spec is very strong for Druid/Rogue. The new Cyclone allows you to grab an extra 4 yards of range. Dreamstate also allows for a huge increase in mana per 5 seconds. It does lack Feral Charge and Improved Bash, but on the other hand it allows you to tank in Moonkin form, giving you CC options in that. This spec is the most offensive Restoration spec there is currently and can allow for huge burst damage when needed.

Rogue

41/20/0: Mutilate is a strong spec. However, in general it has a lot of trouble against Druid/Warrior. It is stronger against caster type teams. This burst is ridiculous with Cold Blood and the ZG trinket. I played this spec in Season 2 to Gladiator and it was fantastic, it hasn't lost its shine in Season 3, and should be even more powerful in the 2.4 patch.

20/0/41: This is the standard Shadowstep build, in my opinion the only other viable spec for this combo. It has great mobility and damage output. It also has huge amounts of cool downs through Preparation. It is my Rogue's choice of spec and preferable for me in Season 3.

Is the best spec i tried because of the range of cyclone that actually saves you very much mana and will keep you dominating the match even if you traveled on a long trip for a drink...

Why havnt you put up the dreamstate spec here?

As a primarily PVE druid, I have found that 21/0/40 (or 24/0/37 for more +dmg but less +heal) is starting to become viable in a 2v2 setting. The main talents of interest are "Nature's Grace" and "Imp Regrowth" which let you crit on over half your regrowths. Now with the higher itemization on spell haste and how it affects the GCD, this lets you cast spells like roots and cyclone in under a second. (It's 0.9 sec cyclones even without any haste) Now that regrowth is cheaper and no longer your 'oh shit' spell it's not as big a deal anymore if it is countered (one of the dangers of using it in the past). Specing for all the good moonfire talents on the way down the balance tree also assists your partner in dpsing at crucial times, and with more range.

The main drawback is the inability to feral charge, and the lower armor, since you will have no points in feral. Also, this is really a spec more for the serious PVE druid that has already learned to play with reduced defensive capability and increased +healing and +haste. With all pvp gear except two Bleesed Band of Karabor I am already able to cast cyclone at around 0.8 sec (after natures grace proc) and spam low rank regrowth on myself at around 1.3 sec which is analogous to a pallys flash of light and we've seen how hard those are to counter.

Could you explain the difference with Demon's spec (rogue in Dagger in Ruecken Man), he's 52/0/9 and I was just wondering if there is any difference in the play style, it is obviously a viable spec seeing he is 2501.
KibunMar 27, 2008 - 7:59 PM (HideShow)
id inspected his specc and i think its the most effective specc, if you play druid/rogue. 50points in assasinnation is the only way to play sure. otherwise you cant specc master poisoner and the druid with 25/35 natur resi will resist shiv. poisons are the best values in this specc. itll be wastage if you dont specc full poisons.. so 41 20 0 ....
watch this movie ... in this movie demon losed VS druid/rogue/worrior because the druid is resisting his shiv 3times at the beginning of the match :`( ..

@ the fight VS demon is starting at 18:00

Can we get a rundown for a mirror match? I imagine it's just both rogues chasing the druids around and seeing who dies first, but if there is another way to handle that I'd love to know.
SolarosApr 8, 2008 - 4:04 AM (HideShow)
To answer your question, Basically in a mirror match you the druid goes into bear form and waits for the enemy rogue to open on him (better to get opened on in bear then in cat.) Once the enemy rogue opens your rogue goes on him untill the druid pops. CC chain the rogue and roflstomp the other druid. (Easier said then done but coordination helps. Back long ago mirrors usually took 30+ minutes, now we can do them in less then 5, 2 minutes if were lucky.)

Would love to see some discussion added for Paladin/Warlock. My partner and I have a really hard time with this team.
ShandreiApr 14, 2008 - 7:12 PM (HideShow)
Can we get a start for druid/hunter. In the early levels we easily got them by me (the rogue) just standing right on top of the hunter and burning him down as me druid CC'd, i don't expect it to be nearly as easy as we get higher.
BbauMay 10, 2008 - 12:36 AM (HideShow)
Paladin/Warlock. We keep pressure on the warlock with rogue on warlock, and pressure paladin by cycloning and feral charging big heals. If the warlock gets a fear off on the rogue, druid has to make sure to keep the paladin in combat and keep warlock from summoning a pet (Should take down pets when they get low). If paladin runs off to drink, cyclone him away from the warlock and feral charge when he finally gets close enough to heal.
I would say if warlock hits about 40%, blind paladin, cyclone 3x at end of blind, then feral charge the heal, bash, maybe maim(if you got points) and war stomp if you have it
AnimocityMay 31, 2008 - 12:47 AM (HideShow)
If the druid is Dreamstate, it makes this fight much harder, but u still have the advantage. Warr will be on rogue of course, and you will be feral charging, bashing, cycloning the druid whenever u can, those that were complaining about warr being cc'd all fight, ur druid should be interrupting those cc's. The difference with the druid being dreamstate is that u will not be able to drink, and if u do find the time to, it will only be a tick or 2 because the druid can dps the warr very hard when he sees u drinking, so basically ur just gonna have 2 outlast their druid, tough fight, but still in ur favor.

i've been playing this setup on my friend's druid for fun and we seem to have a semi difficult time vs priest - hunter. What could we do vs them? and i'm a pretty fail resto druid haha,
SkynightJun 6, 2008 - 10:45 PM (HideShow)
can you guys plz tell me a tactic for hunter priest , they are realy hard I tried to get the priest first but they cced he for almost the time , first priest feared me afther that the hunter came and puted his trap and all the times they did the same thing
DuvJun 10, 2008 - 2:59 AM (HideShow)
As a rogue I went with the same build for Shadowstep but I went 2 points in murder instead of eviscerate and 4 points in vile poisons instead of imp poisons. The first of which due to more damage throughout the match as you'll b using slice and dice and rupture a fair bit and Vile Poisons for obvious reasons.
SileentnightJun 15, 2008 - 11:23 AM (HideShow)
hmm i run the druid/rogue combo and i fought a disc priest/lock combo and i didnt know which to go for so we lost. what would be the strat to beating that set up?
IvysaurJun 15, 2008 - 11:11 PM (HideShow)
yo, i just started this combo with an s1 druid who i just started 3s with as well, i was curious what the most viable spec is? I'm a ShS rogue that just started back playing recently (hit glad in s2) but been out of the loop for months. We fgured respeccin was pointless on first night so he stated 8/11/42. but i'm thinking the added dps from insect swarm would be necessary so... 11/11/39 is a possibility, and then there is dreamstate. We hit 1758 easly last night (went 23-6) but druid DCed twice, was wondering what the most viable spec is for resto druid / ShS rogue in 2v2, thx in advance for ya time!
DarthvictorJun 17, 2008 - 1:26 PM (HideShow)
I just started this combo 3 weeks ago we are slowly moving up we are dangling around 1600 rating we cant get past that but we are trying. If u are new to restor this is DEFIANTLY the way to go. Also spec the simple 8/11/42 its awesome good for everything!

You're guide is really missing a lot of teams and some of the strats are a bit open ended.

Is there any chance you could update the guide with your opinion on teams like

Hunter + Druid
Priest + Rogue
Shaman / Paladin + Rogue
Dreamstate + Rogue or Mirror match
Disc Priest + SL/SL Warlock

I know some of those teams seem easy to figure out, but it would have been helpful to have a bit of foresight before going into the arena for the first time =) thanks!
SapafewJul 1, 2008 - 12:58 PM (HideShow)
I'd really love to know how to handle rogue+rogue with this setup.. Everything else seems remotely manageable, most of the setups even seem "easy". But dual rogue is a pain in the ass. Their damage output and stunlocking takes down the druid within matter of seconds (doesn't take long anyways). I push both of the rogues with rupture, shiv them with crippling, stun them the best I can, but they just pop their cooldowns and basically rape the druid without him being able to do much. Then I am left alive against 2 rogues, other one of them is probably at 50% hp, other one nearly full, but I have no chance to solo 2 rogues (orly?)

What to do?
MizzleJul 2, 2008 - 8:23 PM (HideShow)
can anyone offer some tips on how to handle a well played Dreamstate + rogue as resto + rogue?
SapafewJul 2, 2008 - 10:46 PM (HideShow)
Me and my partner met full s3/s4 DS+rogue today in BEM. (I'd like to point out that I am in s1/s2 gears mostly)

I had the pressure on their druid, their rogue and druid tried to pressure our druid. My partner kited them around the arena, while I kept shiving both of the opponents with crippling (abolish to waste mana), I also kept spamming the rogue with rupture, and every now and then stopped him in a stunlock if he got on our druid.. Basically this went on for around 10 minutes.. Me pressuring them, them pressuring my partner.. After this, their druid was starting to be pretty low on mana (my partner had time to drink every now and then, their's didn't).. I swapped on the druid and pushed him down with everything I could.. The struggle went on and he didn't die yet, but he was nearly totally OOM, me and my druid took advantage off it, blinded the rogue and finished the druid, then killed the rogue..

Might have been luck, not played against many DS/rogue teams but I think pressuring both of the targets might be the best option (in hopes to get their druid OOM), also making sure their druid cannot drink, and their rogue cannot pwn your druid.

These games naturally take long and can probably end up in the favor of either side, can't say much more..

What to do against shaman/rogue?
LoveallJul 11, 2008 - 10:27 AM (HideShow)
uhmm vs 2x rogues simply have your druid start bearform with nature's swiftness up ... when the rogues jump him .. you cs 1 he instantly cyclones the other ... the rest u can imagine from there ... good game
SapafewJul 13, 2008 - 3:47 PM (HideShow)
Alright thanks, will be trying that out
ForsaakeJul 14, 2008 - 10:57 PM (HideShow)
Posting on my lock - but my main is a resto druid these days. Just started 2v2 with a rogue. And there is a team that seems impossible for us to beat. Ret pally/Rogue. Yes, I'm not making this up. This team we went up against were both humans.

Basically what happens is that their rogue usually opens on me. As soon as rogue finds me, ret pally comes running, places JoJ on me. Then begins to unload. Between the rogue stuns, HoJ, etc... I just can't seem to stay alive. This is with me in Bear form at almost 100%. When my rogue jumps on their rogue, he gets BoPd. If he goes on the pally, pally bubbles. And basically both continue to beat on me. Even in bear form with 400 resilience and good amount of stam... I die before my rogue is able to lock one back down. And if BoP or bubble goes off, and my rogue can lock 1 down, I'm usually so low that one of them can finish me off.

Any advice against this comp? Even when my rogue starts on their pally, rogue eventually opens on me, and ret pally bubbles of BoF and comes to me. During the few seconds that both of them are free to beat on me, it drops me far enough that 1 can finish me off....
OnicochJul 15, 2008 - 2:23 PM (HideShow)
Imo, cyclone pally until he bubbles or gets immune while your rogue is slowing/killing their rogue. When rogue gets BoPed your rogue should restealth and re-open. When a rogue is BoPed he can't do anything other than bandage but you should cyclone/root him so he can't even do that. The toughest part of this fight is going to be if the pally bubbles and BoF the rogue and they are both on you. In that case you have to barkskin and blow some CDs and your rogue has to vanish->cheap shot->kidney shot their rogue(if KS is BoPed then gouge/blind), basically anything to let you get away. You should be able to survive with one of them DPSing you for long enough for your rogue to kill them without a healer. If not you need better gear/playstyle. Just like any double dps team you have to CC/kite one and let your rogue kill the other. I have only been playing Druid/Rogue since this season started(played as feral most of last season) and I'm def not an expert, this is just a suggestion for you along the lines of what I might do.
ForsaakeJul 22, 2008 - 7:05 PM (HideShow)
Thanks for the reply. We did finally manage to beat this combo.. though I'm not sure if this was because it was a bad team.

Any advance on Druid/Warrior or Shammy/Warrior? After I cyclone teh warrior 2 times, and root him, their druid automatically runs to the warrior. Who does way too mjcuh dmg to my rogue while root. Should our rogue basically stand back, and I sleep/cyclone the druid until DR on cyclone is up on the warrior? That doesnt seem like its a ton of time. While the druid is next to the rooted warrior, the rogue I think gets hit for more than he's doing dmg to the druid, which then puts me in a position of spamming heals on my rogue, until the warrior decides to intercept to me, and druid follows with a feral charge and bash while I am still stunned in caster form.

With shammy, similar, except the windfury crit is even crazier. Healers just sit next to their rooted warrior. Then warrior will intercept while I am spamming heals to keep the rogue up, then windfury + purge + earthshock + pummel + lucky mace stun/crit = me low on health or dead.

Any advice would be much appreciated. My rogue is good, i know it must be me that can't survive b/c we are stuck in the 1650-1700 range... *sigh*
MaxpwerJul 26, 2008 - 9:46 AM (HideShow)
For Priest/Hunter, I like to have me and the rogue jut sit on the hunter. I sit on him in bear form then pop out throw some LB's and get right back. This seems to place a lot of pressure on the priest to heal and with some well timed cyclone/blinds the hunter will go down. This may only work against retards tho so do not take me to srsly

HOW ABOUT LETS PUT A FUCKING MIRROR MATCH UP?!!?!?!??! KTHX
RhamesSep 2, 2008 - 2:15 AM (HideShow)
@Shaumen

The best way ive seen it, its get the opener on the rogue and get your druid on him and stick on the Spreist. They cant do much with you on them.
SmokéSep 16, 2008 - 10:04 AM (HideShow)
@Shaumen
F up the priest while peeling their rogue off your druid
@Gaeigetsu
Kill druid while peeling their rogue off your druid
^ For any team with a rogue in it really :\
