Dreamstate Druid/Rogue

VS.

Hunter/Priest

Hunter/Priest is one of the easier setups. The general strategy is to tunnel vision the Priest. There is also a tactic to nuke the pet but normally just going on the Priest is enough and makes it much easier. The Priest should die quickly or go OOM before your Druid even passes the 60% Mana mark.

At the beginning of this fight your Rogue should Sap the Hunter and start on the Priest. When the Sap is over you can Pounce him, Maim him and Cyclone him 3 times. While this is going on you could try to get Moon Fire/Insect Swarm on the Priest. Always keep in mind that if the Priest runs in the direction of the Druid, the only thing in his mind is “FEAR THEM ALL.” You should avoid that or switch into Bear form.

The Priest should drop very quickly and the Hunter will try to aid the Priest with an Ice Trap. Here comes the tricky part: you should be aware if he tries dropping an Ice Trap your Druid should get in the trap instead of your Rogue. Follow the strategy and it should be an easy win.

Tips

  • Avoid Fear when you are in caster form
  • Avoid the Ice Traps meant for your Rogue by having your Druid run into them
  • Avoid Viper Sting by switching into Bear Form

I cant say that Hunter/Priest is easy for druid/rogue. Your rogue (if he is not undead) will be in cc 70-80% of the game. And no, druid cant eat traps. If he want to eat trap he charges in with bear form. Scare beast and he is away. Your druid will be damaged and drained til he is oom. The fight is pretty long, but you will eventualy loose if your not UD Rogue.

Sorry, but no, the strategy outlined works just fine if you know how to CloS traps and properly DPS the priest.

Sorry, but no, you can't "CloS traps" because of scattershot.

how do you "properly" dps a priest?
TerwiniethJul 11, 2008 - 6:02 AM (HideShow)
I actually prefer to pull the pet around a pillar kill it, and have the rogue tunnel vision the hunter. The hunter's damage is quite high at range, at melee, he blows. He can't MS your rogue, so your heals are fine, while the hunter has a 50% healing reduction. Once the hunter get's around to 50% Cyclone the priest, and help DPS the hunter down. Not that hard really. Just LoS the mana burns and you win the mana fight.

What if the hunter decides do go for the rogue? a hunter standing and nuke a rogue 24/7 with aimed shot up. Sure i can throw 3x cyclone, bash and so on. But still he does a insane damage against a leather target.

A rogue cannot be kited by a hunter with out poison dispellers. If the rogue gets trapped, root the hunter. Your rogue's DPS>hunter's melee DPS. The hunter will also have a 50% healing reduction, because he doesn't have cure poison. Your rogue on the other hand, will be taking minimal damage from the hunter. You can help damage, and are free to drink when ever, because your rogue is taking minimul damage. You win the mana fight against the priest.

When the hunter get's to about 50%. Cyclone the priest, and DPS down the hunter. After that, cyclone the priest 2 more times. Try to do this when the hunter doesn't have any hots on him. After the DRs set in on the priest, and if the hunter isn't dead, cyclone the hunter. Line up a starfire nuke. Cyclone again, have your rogue go to the priest to stop all casts. Blind him if you can. While this is happening, you should be lining up another starfire. Have your rogue comeback, and kill hunter, priest is still blinded. Hunter dies, you destroy priest, profit with arena points :)

I like doing a fair bit of target switching on this. Help your rogue stick to hunter with roots. Target switch back and forth when cyclone DRs fall off if the opportunity presents itself. Priest isn't too far away, rogue can shadowstep, etc.

One could simply melee the pet behind a pillar for mana, right?
DarkbearJul 26, 2008 - 4:07 AM (HideShow)
Yeah ive played hunter/druid for 2 seasons and this team is def very easy for Rogue/Druid there are basically 3 main things to focus on..

1) Avoid Traps - Bear charge/CloS ect.
2) Kill the pet - 0 resil is fun have your druid dot and LOS making the priest and hunter seperate and if the opportunity arises ShS the pet and nuke the shit out of it
3) Avoid Mana burns - simple really, know when the viper stings are up and be ready to bear/abolish them and always keep an eye on the priest so you can go to bear if he starts to try and mana burn
JackalmasteeJul 28, 2008 - 6:45 PM (HideShow)
This would all depend on how you go about it though right? for example if your GOAL is to simply outmana them, then there are two ways of doing that.
1. The druid could easily avoid mana burns/viper stings by losing everything while the rogue stays on the hunter. You would only need to keep 1 stack of lb's up on the rogue(which Im pretty sure will outheal the hunters melee damage) and force the priest to burn through mana trying to heal over the rogues wounding. The only disadvantage I see to that is the your rogue would get trapped.
2. Have the rogue stay on the priest putting enormous amounts of pressure on trying NOT TO KILL him but make him go oom faster than the druid, while the druid cycloned the hunter making it possible for the rogue to stay on the priest w/o being scatter shot/trap ect.

Ultimately I think the question is, is what would make the priest go through mana faster. Thats a question that you may have to try out for yourself. I know that from my experience, Ive been close to 90% mana as dreamstate while the priest was around 40% just from having to keep the hunter alive. Granted though also take into account where your fighting(positiong wise) and what map so /shrug.
LietoJul 30, 2008 - 7:10 AM (HideShow)
Idd. Priest will go OOM faster.
Just dont forget offensive cyclones on him if rogue gets cced.
GolijovAug 18, 2008 - 4:53 PM (HideShow)
Start on hunter, swap to the priest after every scatter, shs to the hunter if you see him casting aimed shot. Pretty simple, the priest's longevity is nowhere near the druid's.
GolijovAug 18, 2008 - 4:54 PM (HideShow)
If the rogue does get trapped with trinket down, then just 2x cyclone the hunter.
GolijovAug 18, 2008 - 4:55 PM (HideShow)
The priest should never be able to get away and drink unless your druid is terrible.

I'm sure it's just because I am a noob to dreamstate druid, and a noob to arenas with my druid, and a little lacking in gear also, but when I tried this comp with a rogue, we had some trouble with this team.

When we tried playing defensively, with me los-ing a lot and meleeing the pet for mana behind a pillar, I still eventually went oom, and even though the priest was also oom, the hunter had plenty of mana, and my rogue was cc'd most of the match, and I was having trouble keeping up with the healing.

We won once when playing more aggressively, with me out in the open helping to dps whatever we happened to be on - we ended up dropping the pet at one point, and I was able to get away and drink.

And even though priests cannot abolish poison, a good discipline priest will not be killed by a rogue before he's oom, especially since my rogue is not undead, and so he's getting feared and scattershot/trapped all the time.

I guess aggressively is the way to play this, though...
