Dreamstate Druid/Rogue

VS.

Druid/Hunter

We've played quite a few games against this comp and you will need to prepare some fast-paced switches during these games. There are a few viable strategies against this matchup. Some say kill the pet and tunnel vision the Hunter. Some say stay on the Druid. I recommend you try to find your own tactic. Normally you can try a few strategies in one match without losing directly since they can't burst you down or run you OOM that quickly.

I recommend with a Sap on the Hunter and to start on the pet. The main idea is not to OOM the Druid, but to OOM their Hunter. The match will go on with your Rogue kiting the pet around a pillar and your Druid switching his Cyclones between the Hunter and the Druid. If the pet goes down you can switch on the Hunter. If not, you can wait until their Hunter goes OOM, since your Druid shouldn't go OOM before he does. If the Hunter is OOM or drops below a certain Mana level (20% for example) you stay on him till he's completely OOM. Now here comes the tricky part, but it generally works. If their Hunter is OOM, he can barely assist his Druid and he needs to drink and resummon his pet in order to help his Druid. He can't even use his Viper Sting. You need to switch on the Druid and put out lots of burst. Often, if everything is well-timed, their Druid will die or go OOM extremely quickly (assuming both Druids have about 50% (often in this case) Mana). If the other Druid is OOM he will simply die before the hunter gets his Mana up and is able to interfere.

Tips

  • Avoid the Ice Traps meant for your Rogue, similar to Hunter/Priest
  • Get the other Hunter OOM and switch to the Druid
  • Avoid CC at the beginning by pillar kiting the pet

1 drink tick = scatter trap? idk but i've played some really annoyingly good hunter/druids...

imo just stay on the hunter and burn him down after hes oom/pets dead... hes doing almost no dps and with a dreamstate druid dpsing/CCing the other teams druid will go oom from that

CC druid kill hunter. Cyclone hunter if they are low with full hots/abolish on them, then commence the dps again. Good hunters can play really defensive and therefore will not let you kill their druid. If you try to kill the druid your rogue will be scatter/trapped with wing clip/imp wing clip procs on them, and your druid will have viper sting on them and be forced into bear. Lock the hunter down, druid will be foced oom from spam healing through wound poison/rogue/wrath spam.. will eventually try to drink, then you kill the hunter, or chain cyclone rotation and blind/sap the druid.

Ive been playing with a rogue recently and found that Mithos strat was similar to ours. We open on pet with starfire, cheapshot, and wraths/mf/is. If we are lucky it might die, if not, we start on the hunter. You stick on the hunter until he goes oom from dps'ing and trying to kite. Once he is oom, wait for the druid to be in a good spot to switch to him, start cc'ing the hunter with roots/cyclones whatever is available, and assist your rogue with as much dps as possible on the druid, do whatever you can to stay on that druid. IF he does end up living through all that, attempt to get some drink ticks off and start on the hunter again until he's oom and do it all over again.

Moonkin form + s3 savagery staff = YUM

You will make them want to claw their eyes out. If they go ultra defensive the match can last quite a while. Played for 57 min last night vs a good druid/hunter that have played us a lot in the past. A few times they just hid the pet behind a pillar and the druid tried to keep me from drinking.

if your rogue is mutilate you can start on the hunter but save your energy and when the druid pops you can cc him and burst the pet down quickly. you can do this with sublety but its not as easy

If they play defensively it's a never ending game. If they play offensively it can be won or lost. Dreamstate has a lot of mana regen, especially with a FAP staff, but their druid will not need to use more than a single lifebloom stack to keep the rogue up vs even full dps from both the druid and the rogue. Too much CC. A fully geared resto druid can keep up a lifebloom stack forever, and even gain mana while doing it.

For us against this combo i dont even start on the pet, the fight is just so easy, i simply start on the hunter and keep him locked down, my druid los's the entire fight to avoid cc, even uses the pet to get back mana. and after i throw an expose armor out he will start cc on the druid and i attempt to nuke down the hunter, either we get lucky and he dies or the druid wastes alot of mana getting him up, most of the time he uses frost traps to kite me, but when he does use an ice trap i normally eat it unless i can get a fast cloak off to avoid it, so far we have had no issues with this combo
ThexiaJul 27, 2008 - 10:07 PM (HideShow)
Theef could you explain how you stick to the hunter? The way I see it you have 2 cooldowns, 30 seconds and 1 minute, to counter wing clip, freezing trap, frost trap, feral charge, entangling roots, cyclone and the hunter won't be snared if the druid is smart enough to keep up abolish.
TheefJul 28, 2008 - 8:26 AM (HideShow)
well maybe it helps im a gnome, but keeping shiv on, even with abolish poisons i can stack poisons off my main hand fast enough to keep crippling for a decent amount of time, plus being able to renew it whenever i want, just the crippling poison counters wing clip, and frost trap, i can normally save cloak for either roots or if i let him get too much distance on me through a freezing trap, and i normally only need to shadowstep after a series of cyclones. plus if i really need it vanish, sprint, evasion. i usually always have one of those up because its not often i really need to pop them against this combo, and when i do find myself drained of cooldowns the hunter is most likely oom.

Playing as a dreamstate Druid/Hunter we struggle against GOOD Druid/Rogues.
It's all about the switches, They can dominate us by well timed switches.
CircieAug 21, 2008 - 4:29 AM (HideShow)
I get carried by perception and we can burst down that druid in cat form, or he comes out in bear and we just hibernate -> kill the pet. lolzlozlolozoll
PhoxyAug 26, 2008 - 8:02 AM (HideShow)
That might work on retaliation, but at high rating on any competitive BG, you will not burst a druid down in cat form off the opener.

Unless you're 4pc4pc with glaives.
