2011 North American Battle.net World of Warcraft Invitationals

Well the VODs are finally up for most of the BNet Invitational on the Blizzcon Tournament Website. Below we have coverage that we are continuing to update for each and every match. A special thanks to Diziet for his help putting together team descriptions and the template for this post! Enjoy watching! We've taken great effort to put spoilers in spoiler tags, so you can watch the VODs unspoiled. We'll see the winners at Blizzcon!

The 2011 North American Battle.net World of Warcraft Invitationals features eight of the best 3v3 teams battling it out in sunny California for over $24,000 in prize money and the chance to qualify for the Blizzcon Global Invitational tournament, where they will put all their skills on the line for a chance at the $75,000 top prize and the bragging rights to call themselves the world's best World of Warcraft players.

We will be bringing you full coverage of the tournament as the VoDs are released. First, let's take a look at the teams that have been invited to this tournament.

Teams

Team EG

:warlock: Azael :shaman: Cdew :priest: Talbadar

Team EG is running the ever-powerful Shadowplay comp, a powerful setup capable of immense dot pressure, great crowd control and survivability via Talbadar's shadow offheals, and amazing burst whenever Mind Blast crits. This is Azael's and Cdew's first time at a Blizzard Invitational event, and this team is looking to show how much their practice will help them perform in a tournament setting.

Team Massives

:deathknight: Massives :shaman: Kollektiv :warlock: Nadagast

Team Massives is attending this tournament with a very powerful Shadowcleave setup, with tournament veterans Nadagast and Kollektiv joining up with Massives. This comp has been consistently powerful ever since it's introduction in early WotLK, and playing the comp with Kollektiv's great healing Team Massives will be looking to prove that Shadowcleave is just as powerful in the US as it is on EU.

Complexity

:shaman: Gravemind :rogue: Reckful :warlock: Venoma

Rogue hero and tournament veteran Reckful is teaming up with two newcomers, Gravemind and Venoma to play RLS. Although these two players are new to the tournament scene, they've made a splash on live servers in the past, achieving and battling for World R1 and getting R1 titles on their characters. RLS will be looking to play a very technical and controlled playstyle, as they will need to set up kills and work together to overcome some of the Wizard comps that are playing in this tournament.

xD

:priest: Lencia :shaman: Keto :warlock: Draen

Making their first debut at a live tournament, xD's Draen, Lencia and Keto are looking to show everyone that their success on live ladders and multiple R1 titles do not just mean that they're great players from home, but that they can hang in with the veteran tournament players and have the willpower to show everyone their skills in a tournament setting. They are known for playing Shadowplay primarily, but Lencia is capable of playing multiple classes and this team might mix it up to countercomp their opponents.

Jolly ol Slippin Slide

:deathknight: Valrath :priest: Sodah :mage: Venruki

A star lined team featuring 2009 Blizzcon winner Valrath, along with tournament veterans Sodah and Venruki, this DKMP setup will be looking to show that they can utilize their comp's powerful early game pressure and the burst potential of their setup, with Venruki and Valrath being able to burst any open target down within seconds, and the always clutch burst of Sodah giving the team a little extra oomph to finish the games.

Special Tactics

:deathknight: Alex :shaman: Diziet :rogue: Woundman

Tournament veterans Diziet and Woundman will be pairing up with Alex to play the only melee comp of the tournament: Rogue DK Shaman. Something interesting to note is that Diziet has switched from Druid to Shaman for tournament play. This team has a lot of options available to them, from playing control to bursting down anyone in a coordinated CC chain with smoke bombs, but they will have to watch out for all the Warlock and Mage teams, as those powerful wizards can easily shut down any kill attempts with their plethora of CC.

Slip n Slide

:mage: Pookz :shaman: Toez :warlock: Snutz

Slip n Slide is composed of veteran players Toez, Pookz and Snutz. Not only do they have an abundance of Zs in their names, but they have the ever-powerful MLS setup as their primary lineup. The setup has changed in playstyle since the last expansion, the comp now is capable of putting out immense burst on healers and finishing the game within seconds, even with the warlock playing as affliction. Also, keep in mind that Toez is capable of playing different healer classes and no one can ever discount Snutzrogue.

Singularity Gaming

:druid: Christhorman :shaman: Novoz :warlock: Thugonomics

Singularity Gaming will be showing up to the tournament playing LSD. Elemental Hero Novoz is joined by the only druid of the tournament, Christhorman, and these two experienced players are bringing in Thugonomics on warlock. Will the immense buffs to Elemental Shaman burst be enough for this team to burst their way to victory?

I have received word from Blizzard that they are planning/hoping to release the first batch of VODs today from the US Battle.net Invitational that took place over the last two days at their headquarters.

While we wish Blizzard had streamed the event live, we will be removing spoilers so that you can enjoy watching the games in suspense and ensure that only accurate information is passed along. We will update here when the first set of VODs are released. I'm assured that there were some great games that should be a ton of fun to watch. Back to Top
