5.4 Region Wide Arena!

With the upcoming patch you will be able to queue arena against anyone else in your region, I will be discussing what this means for WoW arena, and how it will benefit players as a whole.

What is Region Wide Arena?

Region wide arena just means you can queue up arena and not be restricted to facing teams that are only on your battle group / battle group pool. Currently the system is restricted to 2-3 battle groups that your pool can face, that will be no longer in the upcoming patch.

What has changed?

The major change with this patch is that there will be no more arena teams! This is a huge change, which means you can invite anyone to a group and queue up arena you will have a personal rating for each bracket which will increase / decrease, the same way the rated battle ground system currently works.

How does this benefit me?

This new system means that you can invite anyone even cross realm and queue arena without having to worry about leaving your team. This will also save you some money on server transfers to play with your friends!

How do ladders work?

Ladders will be the same as how the RBG ladder is currently, gladiator will be obtained based on % as it is now, but will be calculated on how many active players there are in the whole region, rather than just a battle group.

A rank 1 or equivalent title will also be given based on percentage.

Possible Title Requirements:

Rank 1: End a PvP season in the top 0.1% of the arena ladder (requires 50 games won in Season 14).

Gladiator: End a PvP season in the top 0.5% of the arena ladder (requires 50 games won in Season 14).

Duelist: End a PvP season in the top 3% of the arena ladder (requires 50 games won in Season 14).

Rival: End a PvP season in the top 10% of the arena ladder (requires 50 games won in Season 14).

Challenger: End a PvP season in the top 35% of the arena ladder (requires 50 games won in Season 14).

What does this mean for WoW arena?

If this system turns out to be a success then it could mean brilliant things for the arena scene. It will increase competitiveness on ladders since all players will be able to actively play against each other. It could decrease queue times, currently at high ratings queue times are generally long. With this new system there will be a larger range of high rated teams to face!

Sure, this could be good for the American players, but what about us oceanic players? are we going to be put into east coast servers? i'm not a fan of playing on 350 ms, and if that's the case I can see a lot of oceanic players quitting

Awesome change, will bring some life back to the game. Not sure how I feel about no arena teams though. It kind of kills casual/fun arenas unless youre ok with tanking rating. Say if you want to try out a new comp or play with friends who might not be close to your rating or youre just drunk and want to kill time or something. WHICH IS WHY they should reintroduce skirmishes.

The oceanic community is currently at about 200k subs, which is a fair chunk of the community (thats only the players on the oceanic listed realms, so its probably a lot higher)

Thats actually quite a bit, considering how small their population is.

Wonder if they will bring titles back to 2s bracket with this change which I doubt it... At least 5s bracket would actually matter after the patch and it will become more competitive/fun.

so, when theyre calculating titles, does it include EVERYONE who has played an arena that season or only those who have won 50 games?

It should be minimum 50 games for everyone imo.  That way it makes it more difficult to carry/sell tite, etc.

Are titles specific to 3s ,2s , and 5s ?  I guess that would mean different mmr for each bracket?

Yeah, the mmr is gonna be saprate.

I still think there should be a rank 1 title for 2s or something at least, its actually making a comeback in terms of competitiveness.

And finally gonna get good 5s ques, sick of farming 1 point wins because the 2400 teams arent quing.

Typical 2200 carry in bg9...
http://us.battle.net...drop that thun/

I love the new change but I also worry that this change will promote more glad carry/sell.  Blizzard was never good at controlling the abuse.
Real players losing their titles by abusers being carried by r1 pilots...  not cool at all...

You're forgetting that you'll meet proper players as well. People that know what they're doing y'know.

Would a system similar to Sc2 not work?  Like if a team of 3 people queue for 3v3 it gets ranked as a team and anything not meeting the full queue size gets ranked as random for that bracket.  They can still queue into each other but just are ranked separately?  Hell, a combined ladder could maybe work it would just look weird.

EDIT:  To clarify this would remedy the whole problem of not wanting to tank your rating by playing with a less skilled buddy.

i find that in cities my quartz cast time is unusually high at 260-280ms even though world and home latencies in game are low at <200ms

anyone else experiencing this?

if the bg is on east coast servers my cast quartz time is 260ms compared to west coast < 200

big diff.

why would my cast latency be so high in cities but appears low when i mouse over the network connections button?

it can go up to above 300ms when casting in quartz even although it shows a low < 200 ms in the network status.
