I think you take the introduction part too seriously hilde, You should try to get everyone speaking a few sentences for example just their names and a short introduction everyone on himself.

I think this is better due to two reasons: the people talking already don't listen because they already know each other and most of the listeners its also more interesting. And if everyone talked once in the beginning, they are more likely to speak more later on and not one guy telling the patch story of their class, but some serious discussion with more pro/contra-stuff
