ASK ME ANYTHING
about GuildWars 2

Welcome to the AMA here on Arena Junkies. All questions about GW2 are welcome and we assembled some of the best and most experienced GW2 players to answer them.

Some, but not all of the players that will answer have the new dark blue name tag for the GW2 Team. This is a lot more complicated than it sounds right now and it's an interim solution. There are many people around here that would deserve this tag, but we can only do so much, as it is completely manual work and can only be done by the admins, not the mods. I have no current updates on how we will handle this user group in the future, its main purpose is the AMA now. Please be patient with us, we have a huge work load right now.

With us tonight are:
Powerr, Lina Inverse and Thad Castle from Matchless
Lyr and Zwacky from atrox
Sagasu, SheepyOo, Mianhe, kwlpp, Wanbe, rotten and Freelancer from Team Legacy
spoh, teldo, blowi, cigs from team paradigm
Valor from Lords of the Dead
Lowell, Izkimar, Fredzw, Erho, from Super Squad

Moderator demi-god Blowi will make sure this thread remains free of flames and trolls.

Now, let's begin, we await your questions.

Hello, perhaps not a very interesting question but:

Am I able to change how my character looks during sPvP and wVwVw? I've heard that most rewards from outside the pvp systems at end-game is mostly cosmetic, can we enjoy these rewards in sPvP and wVwVw aswell?

Thanks in advance

In WvWvW, yes. In sPvP, you can only use those cosmetic rewards which you obtained in sPvP.

Is it reasonable to expect the WvWvW to be relatively playable (in terms of lag)? Or is it more like wintergrasp with 5-10 second spikes.

It shouldn't be unplayable.  I haven't heard of many problems with it so far. Server stability has been great.

Hey, Powerr! What are your thought on eles? are they as weak as people are saying? How viable is S/D or DD over staff in SPVP?

Hey guys ^^

As we all know the new sPvP map - Raid of the Capricorn - was introduced in yesterday's stresstest.
How did you experience the map, what tactics did you use and did you think it was worth emerging in underwater-combat? (I mostly saw everyone avoid it ^^).

At this point, the sharks do most of the work for you >_<.

We all hope, that Capricorn won't get his way to the tournaments, until they start balancing the underwater combat system... It is just a fun map with all these NPC sharks, cannons and shit.

i am not Powerr at all, but who says that eles are weak? O_o
Ele is one of the most balanced classes out their. Their mobility, burst damage and defence options are just awesome. Many weapon combos are viable at the moment. :)

I hope Capricorn gets deleted and forgotten.
No but really, I don't want to play underwater and I hope they implement a "banning maps" feature in one way or another so I (and all the others that feel like me on this matter) can actually play this game. Would be very sad if it failed at that.

Ele's are damn strong.  I think people are starting to realize that you don't need to play the crappy support staff builds to be effective.  S/D sustain spec (0/30/0/20/20) is a top performer for sure.

What thief build do you see dominating the most in tournaments right now? I've tried dag/dag cond and pistol/pistol burst specs, not sure which I prefer.

Both are shit.
D/D Heartseeker spam, S/P Quicknesswhip or P/D Venomshare are the most common ones. Lowell has been playing S/P Venomshare on stream today, seems to work as well.
I'd generally not play Pistol/Pistol or condition builds (except for Venomshare) as a thief.

I just don't feel like  condition thief can do shit (unless venom share as tree stated), u just don't live long enough for your condition to work.
I liked P/D the most, followed by S/P but I'd say P/D is better, as tree said. Then again i didn't play thief that much...

This game is really revolutionary, it's relatively clean game of flaming and almost always top title was voted in development

Hi everyone :) I am looking at getting into WvW but I can't decide between the guardian or Warrior. I currently have a level 50 guardian but I find he is to slow.

My play style is usually high DPS + tanky (if it can be done)

which would you suggest?

Are both really good tank class, but if you are looking for dps, warrior its better.
