Hey guys. Blizzard wants us to help spread the word on their upcoming changes for their class forums. UPDATE: They are keeping the class forums now and just adding these new forums as well.

Official Blizzard Quote:

With the upcoming release of Wrath of the Lich King and the many changes the expansion brings to classes and mechanics, we have decided to rearrange our forums to make it easier for players to hold constructive discussions. To that end, we have added three role-based forums: Tanking, Damage Dealing, and Healing. Why?

Common ground for common roles. The new structure provides central places for players of diverse classes and specs to discuss their common roles. Until now, there was no one obvious forum for a holy paladin to discuss Arena healing tactics with a restoration shaman, or for a protection warrior to talk tanking mechanics with a feral druid. This often led to splintered, fractured, and redundant discussions.

The class forum structure is great for players of each class to have a sense of identity, but it isn't necessarily effective for taking into account the impact of talents. While lumping together a shadow priest and a holy priest (for example) may be good for maintaining the identity of priests, this isn't always effective in terms of our ability to address the very different roles these two talent specializations fulfill.

Celebrate diversity! While a tank tanks and a healer heals, the specific ways each class and talent build go about these roles are very distinct -- and the addition of new abilities in Wrath of the Lich King will continue to add even more ways to play. The new forum structure will still be a place for a frost mage (for example) to discuss tricks of the trade with other frost mages, while at the same time facilitating an understanding of the unique tools that rogues or other damage-dealers have to perform similar functions.

Help us help you. The new forums will also allow the community team and developers to follow discussions and gather feedback more effectively as the game continues to evolve -- which, ultimately, translates to a better World of Warcraft for you.

Please bear in mind we will have a continued moderation presence on the class forums to ensure discussion remains civil, however, the focus of our posting about class roles will be on the new role-based forums. You can begin using the new forums immediately at the links below:

Healing- http://forums.worldo...=13395582&sid=1

Damage Dealing- http://forums.worldo...=13395581&sid=1
They are also compensating realms for the instability issues that have occurred. Source:

Official Blizzard Quote:

Since the release of the latest patch, Echoes of Doom, we have gone through a series of optimizations in order to increase overall game performance. We've seen steady, stable populations and a flurry of activity and excitement during the Hallow's End event and the latest rumblings of zombie attacks. It's been an exciting time for us as we draw closer to the release of our second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

We've reached a point where we feel we can now accurately evaluate the events since the patch release. Though overall downtime has been minimal, players have experienced latency, inaccessible instances, and general frustrations. We are therefore announcing that we will be issuing compensation to accounts in all realms in the US, Oceanic, and Latin American regions. Accounts that are currently active and in good standing will be credited with an additional three days of game time.

We would like to thank you for your patience during this time and look forward to seeing you in game!

Hopefully they decide to keep them and just add both. They said they are waiting a week to get feedback first.

I hope they do this.  There's no way I'd want to sift through all the other classes to find info for my own, but I do think the forums will be useful for role comparisons.

I really honestly like this change. There was some really weird class-ism going on and there really shouldn't be a reason to have that stuff. I play with other classes and I like when they get improvements and I don't like when they get nerfed. There really should never have been such silly identification with playing a certain class. I mean, I guess it's okay to feel strongly about your class, but the other classes affect you in good ways too.

I guess they are doing it for two reasons:

1) Moderation. With just three instead of nine forums the moderators can detect and delete spam more easily.

2) Elimate the, as Pyrillus called it, "Classism". I don't think that will work, however, since those rivalities are mostly a result of the game itself (e.g. warlocks defeating horrible mages with ease by chain fearing, mages get frustrated, post angrily, develop a certain "rivality", etc.). Classes will still be flaming each other, I guarantee it.

Personally, I am strongly against this idea. When I rolled my hunter and my warlock I first checked the class forums stickies, with this change I would have had to crawl through threads I don't care about until finally finding the desired information.

Furthermore, class mechanics vary. Maybe not so much in PVE, but certainly in PVP. Putting all DPS classes/specs in one forum will be absolutely confusing.

I just love how they lump all damage dealers into one forum...  Melee and Casters are too different for that to be extremely helpful.  I can see there being some use, but in the end it's just not the same.

Yep, split physical damage dealers and magical damage dealers.
Class forum were pretty useless, I think it's a good change.

Bwahahaha this takes epic fail to a whole new level.  Never before has Blizzard more clearly demonstrated the fact that THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THEIR OWN GAME.  There's no obvious forum for that because the discussion should never happen in the first place, and it never will happen even after they merge forums.  I can't even imagine what a shaman would ask a paladin or vice-versa.

Shaman:  So should I try to juke the counterspell?
Paladin:   Just bubble and heal...
Shaman:   wut
Paladin:   Bubble motherfucker, do you has it?
Shaman:

*violence ensues as the shaman's bubble envy grows*

I see no reason in having them both.
Who the fuck whould use the "Physical Damage Dealer" thread, instead of duscussing your class with your fellow "XHunters" etc.

Hilarious Stupid shit!

While I am not sure how I feel about this forum change (I don't even read them so it doesn't really matter to me), I agree with the class-ism statement. One of the most annoying thing was one idiot sticking up for another idiot just because they shared the same class, though this is likely to continue.
