The Mau village is retarded.
If any mechanic in Aion grinds my gears, its that this early in the game you are expected to make groups containing 1 / 8 chance a tank, 1/8 chance a healer, and 4 dps to be able to do the quests necessary to hit level 20. Otherwise, you grind. Very dumb.
But actually killing the shit is decent. Every mob has some trick to it, but multipulls with bad sorcerers = wipe. And then you have to run all the way back.
Also, if a cleric rez's you, you still loose xp and have durability loss. I see that being a huge issue later on.

Dunno about you but I've never lost exp from a rez, nor do you have to pay a soul healer for anything. You just have a temporary rez debuff.
Also, you're not "forced" to do anything, you don't have to do the group quests to hit 20 and move on. I don't think grinding for an hour or two is that big a deal. If you have a problem with grinding this may not be the game for you.

Man when wow came out 1.X fucking level 40-50 was a pretty massive grind. Now that was retarded.

Point is you are grinding this early.
Also, you loose xp when you die, and you pay a soul healer to restore the lost xp. The next time youre in a town, talk to the healer, it says "restore lost xp", and if you die, a part of your xp bar is dimmed out indicating you lost that xp and need to pay to restore it.

Asmo gets less exp through questing than Elyos does I've noticed, so that could be part of the issue you're seeing. :/

Point is you are grinding this early.
1.2 is adding more exp per quest and 1.5 is adding more quests.
(from what I've read through translated patch notes.)
Which means you won't be grinding that early.

I'm still level 18 :<
I only hit 17 on elyos and didn't feel like finding a group for the elite quests, no thank you VOLTRON I don't want to help you do that quest. The four circle elite hit me for like 800 fuuuuu
So I went exploring, died a bunch, lost some money, but had fun ^^
the grind seems no different than wow, but more fun nonetheless because its new and I like flying ;)
I dislike how you lose all your dp when you die
I do love how you can get your exp back when you die, so theres really no downfall from dying if you have money

new patches are increasing the exp per quest and adding more quests. I doubt it will truly be like wow where you just run back and forth doing quests. You're still going to grind to the quest, grind to complete it, and grind back to turn it in if you want the most exp.

Again, I think you're mistaken, when you get rezzed you get your exp back.

edit: also the quest exp difference between the 2 factions is a massive bug thats fixed after 1.0

It's ok if you never played FFXI this is cookie cutter compared to it, you would lose 10% of your max EXP for every death. I can remember hitting level 75 (the cap) multiple times...yes...deleveling is fail

I believe currently Asmo get less exp per quest.

Yea, Asmo definitely do. I was halfway ish through 16 when I was ready to start the group quests on my Asmo Cleric this weekend, but I was around 18 already on my Elyos Sorcerer when I started their group quests. Not to mention I noticed a few of the Asmo quests that actually had you go kill/collect shit only gave like 10k exp whereas you'd never see lower than around 30k as Elyos.

So you can't actually de-level then i assume? I was considering trying this game out and thats the only thing (I think) i haven't read about yet. If you can that might be tough to start out with : \

If you did de-level it would be the exact same as normal dying because the way you get the lost exp back is by paying.
But I'm 99% sure you don't de-level.

I think you can "de-level" but you can buy all your exp back from the Soul Healer anyway. So as long as you're not a super cheap/broke ass it's not an issue. (Making money in this game is really easy by the way, just everything gets expensive as hell)
Yea, what Dheg said might be true. I never died when my exp into a lvl was low enough to notice.

Ahh alright, sounds nice, basically just build up enough cash to make it an insignificant problem, easy enough for me :)

you can't de-level from dying
anyways, there is no durability so buying back exp is just the "repair bill" in this game. its pretty nice since durability can go down even when you dont die, but soul healing only comes when you die. the exp loss is percent based so at low levels you can just stand in town for 1 minute then kill 3 mobs and basically earn the exp back without paying anything... not that the soul healing is even remotely expensive at low levels. not sure how bad it gets at high levels.

At 33 my soul healing cost me somewhere around 10-15k I think, and at that point I had like 1.2m kinah or there about, its really not bad. Its just not one of those games you don't want to be constantly broke in, its very very easy to make money, it just comes down to how you spend it ( I literally only payed for like Odella powder aka bandages up to that point ).
