View Full Version : Why are arena points not based on personal rating?

After getting matched against a team with their S3 shoulders and weapons for the umpteenth time in th 1750ish bracket, I have just about lost it.
I know these guys are building up teams to sell. That's fine. We all have to make a living. I don't blame them. I blame blizz. Because seriously, it's making arenas an absolutely terrible place. I had fun last season. This season is horrible. Especially in 2v2. That bracket is so broken it's not even funny.
So why aren't arena points based on personal rating? Or some sort of calculation from personal rating and team rating. Enough where it makes team/point buying not desirable.
Isn't this a really really simple, fair fix or am I missing something here?

pvpers aren't doing arenas 24/7
and I know that 2k + arena players don't do battlegrounds when they aren't doing arenas
so in that off-time find ways to make money just like the rest of us. There are plenty of easy ways to make money without farming, be creative. I got the eng more extractor this week and have made 800 g in a couple days.
The elitists in the 2k rating are making buttloads of money and getting 18 stam gems, 10 res gems, ring ench, etc. And those things have prices waaay out of the average arena player's wallet. Selling teams just makes the elite players even more even elite while the regular arena players struggle.
just my opinion

Are you serious? I PVP a fair amount and raid 3 days a week.
Between keeping up with multiple 50g respecs/repairs (up to 100g on progression nights)/mats every week I still manage to have 2k gold saved up by doing dailies and using my professions.
Why should they have to do things they HATE doing just to be able to enchant their gear, buy gems, etc, just to compete in PvP. To me, it makes sense to make gold in PvP to pay for things you need for PvP. The minor stat advantages aren't why they are winning. My priest has some greens and can get to 1900 easily.
If you don't like it - don't queue again when you see them, or simple, beat them. Or come in with a composition that counters them.

how else can we afford epic gems if we dont raid
Selling arena points is one of the few "skill" based ways to make gold in this game and I fully support arena point selling. Top tier guilds sell pve loot, why can't top tier pvpers sell arena points.
Besides rolling low rated teams is so much god damn fun esp when you are taking 20 pts from them leveling teams up.

yeah rolling low rated teams when the gladiator teams are lvling a new team shouldn't be something to be exited about... Of course unless your an utter dick.
My 5v5 team was about to break 1800 this week when we lost 40 points in 2 games to a team all with vengeful weapons. It took more than 2 winning games to get those 40 points too.

you make it sound like gear is a factor for breaking 1800
It actually is really fun to stomp 1500 druids in like two seconds, I won't lie. I don't care how undergeared or bad they are, it's fun, much like sometimes games are fun when you turn the cheat codes on.

Yes. This is why it sucks to play arena if you didn't hit lvl 70 at the start of S2.
It's not that bad. Find a geared partner and it won't matter what you're really wearing. I got 1900 last season with a priest in 20 resilience. Avoid the teams that grossly outgeared you, or just create a 5v5, 1500-1600ish 5v5 isn't that bad for points.
And season 1 gear is sufficient to get decent ratings.

How do I do that?

Leveling up new teams is pretty awesome. And like Grup said it's not all gear. I broke 1850 on my Rogue in 180 resilience with dual S1 daggers with a similar geared mage alt in 2s. Just keep practicing and you'll get better =)
How do I do that?
Don't queue against them? There aren't enough high rated teams in any battlegroup to have several teams constantly leveling teams in 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 at all times of the day every day.
