After seeing widely differing opinions on this, I decided to look up the book, and it seems like the movie was completely different than the book in almost all regards. That being said, I've never read the book, and I found the movie to be very enjoyable. I'm guessing that a lot of people who didn't like the movie are comparing it with the book?

Not as good as 28 days later, but still a decent flick.
Everytime Will Smith said something relevant me and my friends would sing different Fresh Prince lyrics. Yeah, I enjoyed it.

It was pretty bad.
I'm okay with when they decide to take certain liberties with movies inspired by books, and the novel's already been adapted a handful of times over the years - The Last Man on Earth, The Omega Man.
However... if they're going to keep the same title than I would have thought they'd have the common decency to keep the integrity of the title in tact. The "legend" referred to in the novel is fucking badass, and dropkicks you square in the face. The movie's "legend" is bland, boring and entirely predictable. Those familiar with the book will know what I'm talking about. Couldn't they have called it something else?
But hey, I saw it for free. I was entertained for an hour or two - I wasn't ready to walk out at any time. But jeez. What a let down.

Having already read the book I still went and saw it. I pretty much just like the guy above was LOOKING for just one more reason to walk out. I ended up just manning up and finishing it though.
By far the most disappointing movie I've seen all year. I went with 2 friends who had never read the book and they still hated it.
Reminds me of Wildwild West....somehow
Great actor, poor movie?

I had much anticipation for this movie. Sadly, I was let down.
The first half was very entertaining - how he lived on his own, how he survived, etc.
But the second half just sucked - from the moment Sam died :[

Movie wasn't too bad. The best part was at the beginning with the GT500. Damn that blower sounded good:cool:

I thought it started out amazingly and sort of leveled off in a predictable way. I feel like they could have done so much more after the dog died.
Also thought him committing suicide was kind of unnecessary considering he could have thrown the grenade and still jumped in the hole in the wall.

I thought the movie was fantastic until the ending at least. The cure and the way Will Smith dies just seemed like too much of a cop out imo.
And seriously. 1 HE grenade can't make a fiery explosion and blow up an entire room.

I thought it was a decent movie but as always, the movie wasn't as good as the Book. Worth seeing though if you haven't read the book.
saw it tonight. visuals were amazing as i awaited - loved the emptiness. could have done more character development and the ending was pretty bent too.
overall a pretty good movie though.
I thought it was good, but I really was expecting better since I loved the book, I just don't get why they cant stick to the original ending the book ending was much better.

The ending was very disappointing, but the movie overall was quite entertaining for me. I never read the book, so I really had no bias walking into the theater.
The one thing that surprised me was the emotional aspect of the movie. I'm a fag who hates penises, sure, but holy dear god I cried way more than any mortal man should ever do at a movie theater. Ever.
I was expecting an "OMFG I'M WILL SMITH BITCH BEND OVER AND DIE" movie and was pleasantly surprised.
