I've heard naming your pet after someone else in your team will screw with mods like Proximo, so I'm thinking of getting a new pet but I'm not sure who to name it after, or how it works exactly.
Should I name it after our paladin, so that they will try to CoT and sheep my pet instead? Or should I name it after our priest, so if they try to assist train it might take some heat off her? I'm worried they might actually gibb my pet by accident, but I'm sure a dead pet is better than a dead priest.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

When this happens, the opposing team should report your pet name. Name your pet something else.

If you rush in, you can probably get away with screwing their mage or lock's focus macro. If you wait back for more than a few seconds, they'll realize what happened, set focus whatever they want to without using proximo, and your pet did nothing.

You can name your pet anything you want that isn't against the ToS. Reporting it won't do anything.

I heard a story where a guy named his pet Karl (the shaman on his 2v2), and someone reported it and it got changed, so he had to level a new pet.
He decided to call his 2nd pet after the main tank in his guild, so that screwed with people when mods said "Main Tank has died!" So the guild asked him to change it. He didn't want to level a new one, so he asked a GM to change it, and then the GM said it's not against tos to name your pet after someone so they can't change it, so the guy had to re-level a whole new pet lol...

Naming after the pally/priest doesn't work because sheeping/CoT is done via focus or targeting outright. Name it after yourself. When people go for you(which they do a lot) every time you feign death they have to repick the target back up. Proximo then has a 50% chance to pick you or the pet if they click on it through this which is a nice advantage.

Thanks, that's exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. But let's say they want to dps the priest, I don't think they'd have her as a focus, so they'd click the priest on proximo, and then they have a 50/50 chance of clicking my pet instead?
Am I understanding this right?

It is a pretty pathetic thing to do imo.

Regarding the 50% chance, in my experience in targeting two units with the same name, the game without fail chooses the target closer to my character.

Regardless of what anyone says, if you name your pet after you or someone in your arena team a GM WILL change your pet's name if someone reports you. And yeah like the other poster said, it's pretty pathetic.

What's pathetic about doing everything you can to throw off the other team? o=

A GM changed my pets name, it was named after myself.
