I have alot of trouble staying up against melee/healer groups. I'm a pretty effective kiter/los'r in 5v5's but i'm pretty inconsitant against paladin/warrior, priest/rogue, druid/warrior and druid rogue. I pop my trinket after the charge and intercept and kite them around as long as i can till they get LoS to intercept again, if their healer can manage to dodge enough of my mana burns to last that long then im usually toast and get killed by the warrior/rogue. Anyone got any tips on how to boost my 2v2? Is it my partner not CC'n enough? or is there something i can do to stay up better? My 2v2 is my lowest rating as my 5v5 is 2150 and my 3v3 is nearly 2k. Any help would be great as i really want to get my embarassing 2v2 rating up.

Without trying to be rude, holy/disc priest+mage isn't the best combo. Mages tend to run oom quite quickly, which would make fighting other DPS/healer difficult. Something that might work is trying to force your opponents to trinket fear, leaving them open for a full duration polymorph.

The way I see it, you could try to overwhelm your opponents early on with Water Elemental and good CC on one of them or you could try to outlast. Maybe have your mage stick to rank 1s and CC while you try to mana burn the healer.

But like you hinted, your partner needs to be really good with CC in order to make it work.

yeah thats usually what i do is mana burn the healer but against melee teams i have alot of trouble getting them off as i can barely keep myself up with them on me. I will probly go back to priest/rogue as i got that combo up to 1900 fairly easy with a rogue with 9k hp and 100 resil.

I've also run holy priest/frost mage and I agree with Windwalk, the fights usually ended with me low on mana. We tried the same makeup as shadow priest/mage and found it to be much more effective.

This is mainly because I feel like Frost Mages don't actually need that much healing to be effective in 2v2. We have enough escape abilities and usually don't get focused, so 2x dps or 1.5x dps seems to work best. (I run Combat Rogue/WE Mage).

I dont feel that 2 dps teams are that consistant especially with as much resil as people are getting now. I know i dont ever get beat by double dps teams, i think the best combos with priests are shadow, but unfortunately all my gear is +healing, and i have to be holy for my 5v5. The only viable holy priest combos are with a rogue and i guess a hunter now.

Schmity and that Priest won some 2v2 tournament did they not? Main trouble is getting that team to high ratings.

Anyway, I'd say off the top of my head for Holy Priests:

SL Warlock (UA is good but too hard to keep alive)
Rogue
Hunter
Warrior
Mage actually works pretty well. Not sure if it's guaranteed Gladiator material though. As many have said, Mages are pretty self sufficient so their best bet is pairing off with a DPS class and CCing/burning down the other team.

Mage/Holypriest is a very difficult combination to play, because mages simply do not mesh well with a healer. If the other team decides to attack the mage, then the mage is doing no damage and the priest will go OOM keeping the mage alive. The mage is also very likely to go OOM because while people are dancing around the poles (mages can't kill people who LoS effectively) because he is using instant casts which cost a lot of mana, and the mage cant drink and keep people in combat at the same time. If they reverted the water change and made it so only teams with mages could use water in arenas, Priest/Mage would be more viable.

I run forstmage/Spriest and its a pretty fun combo, and effective too. The only combo we really have trouble with is a good druid/demo lock, bu aside from that every other combo is beatable by this one.

for any team witha healer you have a ton of CC, sheep/SC/silence/fear. and mass dispel for pallys.
