Alright, prior to the WF nerf I was a 2050 2v2 warrior/resto shm and have since stopped playing 2's until I find a replacement. And a 2012 3v3 warrior/SL lock/resto shm that we still play but have lost a bit of points. Lack of players meant we did not seriously delve into 5's due to our ice mage being MIA and hovered around 1650. The only reason I state that is that I have refrained from posting since my 2v2 and 3v3 ratings dropped below 2k.
This week our ice mage returned and we immediately went 25-2 up to 1970 running:
Holy Paladin (recently hit 70 so not geared up yet)
Ice Mage
Warrior (myself)
Resto Shm
Spriest
The resto shm is currently regearing for elemental and will be purchasing 2 piece s2 ele set on tuesday with well over 35k honor stockpiled and waiting for AV weekend to farm the rest. Our spriest has no intention of spec'ing holy/disc due to him and his warlock partner being ranked top 15 in 2v2. I don't blame him either, but that is another story and somewhat irrelevant to my post (but also why we do not currently run a holy/disc priest). So my question...
After going 25-2 (one loss to the #18 team and to a high ranked 4dps team that we then defeated twice) we met a "mirror" match of:
Holy Paladin
UA Lock
Warrior
Resto Shm
Spriest
And immediately dropped 5 straight games to them. Their warlock did a superb job of keeping curse of tongues up on our healers and both teams chose to focus down the others spriest. We tried the lock twice and that went very poorly freeing their spriest up to dps. Only one game we were able to drop their spriest as ours did, but I still feel that 4v4 they hold a superior advantage due to the locks play. My team grew agitated and our play decreased quickly after game 2 and after the 5th game took a break.
The question, what sort of strategy do the rest of you see us using against this matrix. I tried explaining to my team that we are at a disadvantage from the start of the fight due to the warlock/spriest synergy and curse of tongues. Regardless if our mage is removing CoT or not, the lock is replacing it almost immediately and with both teams focusing on the others spriest we will lose every time due to their slightly more effective healing.
My take: regardless of who we choose to focus fire we are freeing up an important secondary target and our spriest will fall every time before one of them do. I believe running ele shm/holy priest would be in our advantage however, but as I already stated our spriest will more than likely not be spec'ing out of shadow until s3.
I am posting this because two of our players (spriest/paly) believe it was just a strategy problem, but after debating it for about 15 minutes they refuse to acknowledge that two equally skilled teams met eachother and their matrix countered ours just enough to give them a solid advantage over us. Part of our problem was coordination as well, but that wasn't the root of the conversation. I'm just looking for some other opinions on other strategies and/or takes on the matchup. Thanks in advance.
